100% Achievements in Warframe: DONE

An awesome Volt and an awesome Zenistar

Why do I do this to myself? What convinced me that I needed to get all 193 achievements in Warframe? I suppose, when you have everything else done in Warframe, you might as well? Either way, on a rather dull Thursday morning, when I was totally supposed to be working, I did it. I got the last Warframe achievement I needed, Race Ace. With that out of the way, I can finally claim that I have more than one 100% game. Skyrim was an easy game to 100%. Warframe has taken me over 4000 hours. So, shall we have a… [Continue Reading]

Swablu Community Day

A wild Shiny Swablu

Swablu has always kinda annoyed me. People complain about other lazy Pokemon designs all the time. While Trubbish gets dumped on for being rubbish, I feel Swablu is also lazy. It’s literally just a blue ball with some wings made of clouds. However, Swablu is a pain in the butt in other ways. It’s the Magikarp of its generation but it just evolves into a bigger blue ball with wings. And gets the dragon typing. Swablu is still kinda popular though, enough so that it has a Mega Evolution. And here in Pokemon GO, it also got a Community Day.… [Continue Reading]

No, I do not require your ‘website design and SEO services’.

Editor’s note: This article has been sitting in Pending since May 14th, 2014. Ten years later, I am finally publishing it. As is. Not for any real reason, I just noticed it was sitting there and decided to finally set it free. Funnily enough, ten years later, I still get these emails and, ironically, I get a lot less of them now the site is dead and I don’t use Jetpack any more. I don’t know why, but the Daily SPUF’s email address gets some annoying spam emails. Most of them get filtered out, thankfully. Just having your email address… [Continue Reading]

On Playing Pokemon GO as a Free To Play Player

Genesect, a mechanical insect Pokemon nearly as good as Scizor

I won’t deny it, I’ve spent money on Pokemon GO. Not much though. For the perhaps thousands of hours of enjoyment, I’ve not spent much at all. I’ve purchased a handful of event tickets and the rare €5 coin bundle. But most of the time, I just use what I have, and if I run out, that’s it. However, I may have mentioned that I started a new account. That account is completely free to play. And mostly separate from what I normally do. It mostly just does community days, raids and the odd event if I can be bothered.… [Continue Reading]

On Boiling Eggs

Eggs are great. Round, reliable and full of protein. Probably not the best choice for a vegetarian or a vegan. But you can do a huge amount with just eggs. Heck, the weirdly beloved deviled egg is basically a hard-boiled egg. You just scoop the insides out, mush it up with spices then put it back on top. Yet somehow, the process of boiling eggs is oddly… annoying. Somehow, something so simple can also be weirdly difficult. Also, boiling eggs always reminds me of a scene from Look Around You, a fake science show. Boiling eggs are tasty though. The… [Continue Reading]

How I Would Have Altered the Call of the Tempestarii Quest

Honestly, as cool as she seems, we could have replaced her with pretty much any Corpus character.

Gonna be honest, the more I think about it, the less pleased I am with Sevagoth’s quest. What started off as an interesting premise led absolutely nowhere. There was not much substance to the quest, and nowhere near enough time to actually, well, do anything. Now, I don’t claim to be a good writer. But I really feel like even an idiot like me could, well, do more. Heads up, there ARE spoilers in this article. There kinda have to be. But the Call of the Tempestarii is literally half an hour of quests and cutscenes. It’s literally a Spy… [Continue Reading]

K-Driven: 1,000,000 Meters of K-Driving

A familiar Yellow Volt falling off his K-Drive

If you’ve been reading recent articles lately, you may have noticed a theme. I’ve been on a Warframe achievement binge. A while back, I realized that 100% achievement completion was in range for me. Both in Warframe and in my Steam achievements. In the past however, I’ve only ever managed to 100% one other game. And that game was the original version of Skyrim, which is no longer even really on Steam. Unfortunately, there is a massive roadblock to getting 100% achievements: the humble K-Drive. Specifically, the K-Driven achievement. The K-Driven achievement is hell. You need to right 1,000,000 meters… [Continue Reading]

There’s No Reason Why Smeargle Can’t Be Shiny Any More

A Shiny Smeargle from the limited Pokemon Snap event

The Pokemon Snap event came and went in Pokemon GO. It was nothing special. Yet another timed research and a handful of spawns. Most  of the spawns weren’t particularly interesting. At least, not if you weren’t hunting for shinies. And even then, some of the spawns weren’t shiny-eligible at all, namely Metapod and Dodrio. Annoyingly, we couldn’t have had Caterpie or Doduo spawning as well. The one standout part of this event was the fact that Smeargle could be shiny. “Wait, Smeargle is in Pokemon GO?” Yeah, this seems strange, especially since Kecleon is STILL missing after all these years.… [Continue Reading]

A Ramble About the Snyder Cut

Image by Andrew Martin from Pixabay

I finally got around to watching the Snyder cut of Justice League. You see, I like super hero movies. But DC’s live action movies haven’t really been pulling their weight. The biggest mess was around the Justice League movie, which was filmed mostly by one person then put together by another person. It was all a horrible corporate-meddling mess. One that left us with a shitty Justice League movie that made even the worse animated movies flinch. Now we have Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Which is a 4 hour movie as Zack Snyder, the original director, imagined it. Normally ‘uncut’… [Continue Reading]

More Adventures with Phovos the Excalibur

Phovos the Excalibur in his blue and orange colour scheme.

It’s that time of year again. Actually, it’s not. Normally, in March, Phovos the Excalibur would come back to life. The baby Warframe account would do the anniversary missions, claim its free slots then leave. But lately I realized that I was missing a bunch of Warframe achievements. And the only way to get them? I had to hop on my ancient account and play there.

I’m not going to lie, it’s… a struggle.

I take so much for granted.

Mostly modding and Endo. I have so little of it! No matter how much I obtain, I am very quickly spending it on leveling up the basic mods. The 2000 endo from level 2 of Nightwave was insanely handy in helping me rank up a Serration… which I had to obtain first.

Another thing I miss is readily available energy. Once you have your Operator, even the middle point of Zenurik is a HUGE helping hand. Before that, most new players have basically no energy regeneration. I’ve been using a damaged Equilibrium for now, but it’s not enough. Most missions I do are without energy for the most part.

I have some good gear, but it doesn’t always cut it.

Luckily, Phovos the Excalibur is actually quite well equipped. He has a Vectis, the Dex Dakra and a Galatine to help guide the way. The Dex weapons in particular are excellent. Sure, their damage output isn’t amazing, but they have one upside compared to normal weapons. Thy come with Catalysts pre-installed, meaning I get double mod capacity.

And at MR4, that means a huge amount. Starting with 8 capacity in a weapon over 8 means I can at least fit in a mid-ranked Hornet Strike or Serration. At MR5, I’ll be able to fit Pressure Point into these weapons. But currently I can’t fit anything of use into new gear, which makes it very hard to, well, do many things. While one can normally get away with using unranked gear after MR9-10, below that, it’s vital to carry something leveled up so I can actually do damage.

Everything hurts.

With no energy and no way of really healing, everything really hits much harder. For example, I finished the Vox Solaris quest to unlock the last node on Venus. But despite the enemies in that mission being between 7-10, they hit like trucks. AND they’re hard to kill. While shield-gating kept me alive enough to finish the quest, that same shield-gating meant that the Corpus took  double the time to kill compared to normal enemies.

That being said, Orb Vallis enemies are all-round tougher than most.

All in the name of achievements.

And I’ve got a lot to do. I need to do 10 Nightmare missions, I have to kill Tyl Regor and Kela De Thayme. And I even need to make my way to Eris to do 5 Hive missions. Tyl Regor doesn’t seem that bad. After all, I just reached Jupiter and could be going a lot faster if I’d tried. But Sedna requires me to do pretty much all of the star chart and most quests. And then farming in the arena mode to get points to even fight her once. I am SO glad that I don’t need the achievements for killing Ambulas, Mutalist Alad V or the Jordas Golem.

That being said, I have made some progress. I finished the Void Fissure and Invasion achievements I needed, and I have filled out two planets to get Nightmare missions on them.

Still, it’s a slow process. And it’s been a huge reminder of just how… awkward the early game is. I’d genuinely forgotten a lot of these struggles, so it’s been a bit of an eye-opener for me.

Still though, it makes returning to my MR30 account so much sweeter.
