Disney’s Jungle Cruise: The Real-Life Conquistadors Behind the Villains

So I just watched Jungle Cruise, the newest adventure movie released by Disney and starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It was a good popcorn flick, fun for the whole family etc. I was intrigued by its use of historical figures in the villainous roles. I guess everything below this line is technically spoilers, though they’re pretty tame in the grand scheme of things. The two main villains (Prince Joachim of Prussia and Lope de Aguirre, the 15th century conquistador) are both real people taken straight from the history books. And most of the internet has already discussed how thoroughly-fictionalized these… [Continue Reading]

Avengers Endgame – A Review Of Sorts

Avengers Endgame was awesome! Thanos got the Infinity Stones and half the universe died- wait, wrong movie. That was Infinity War. Still, Avengers Endgame was a bloody awesome film with good pacing, awesome music as always and a mind-boggling plot. Really, I should review it, since that’s what everyone else is doing. First off though, there will be spoilers. They’ll be at the end of the article with a massive spoiler warning in advance. You have been warned. Although I will warn you now, there’s no end-credits scene. Not that this movie really needs it. The credits themselves though are… [Continue Reading]

Avengers – Infinity War – Movie Review

Well, that was an awesome two and a half hours! Didn’t actually feel like two and a half hours at all. I suppose right from the start that’s a glowing review if you sit through a two and a half hour long movie and hardly even notice. Funnily enough, apart from one prick at the beginning of the movie (shouting at teenagers to be quiet and causing the rest of us, kids included, to miss the first 30 seconds of dialogue because he’s an entitled prick – literally all they said was “ooh the movie’s starting”), the theater was weirdly… [Continue Reading]

The Black Panther Movie – A Kinda Late Review

So I saw the Black Panther movie. There was none of that nonsense about going to ‘x-only’ screenings or anything like that (same with literally any other movie here) because I live on a tiny little island and the demographic who want to see this film simply don’t care and just want to watch a movie. But it’s a Marvel movie and my brother was desperate to see it, so we went on cheap Tuesday to watch it. Basically? It’s a good movie. Not groundbreaking. Not mind-blowing. Not racist or in your face or insensitive or anything like that. It’s… [Continue Reading]

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review

I actually got to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi on its premiere here where I live. At five in the afternoon on a Thursday though, the theater was half empty and there were almost no kids around. Interesting. Anyway, I saw the movie. I think it was worth €9 for a ticket. There’s no need to see it twice though. I wouldn’t say that Star Wars: The Last Jedi was mind-blowing or anything like that. It was a good action flick with some drama and better dialogue than most other Star Wars films. There’s also a LOT going on… [Continue Reading]

A Justice League Movie Review

So I saw Justice League the other day with my brother and sister. On a Tuesday, where the prices were cheaper. €7 a head. Was the movie worth it? Probably not. Then again, most movies aren’t really worth seeing in the cinema, in my opinion. Still, a review is in order, while it is all fresh in my head. A quick summary before we go into spoiler territory: Justice League was alright but it was too slow, there wasn’t really enough action and too much sappy cheese. Good enough for an average viewer, probably not great for a real DC… [Continue Reading]

A Spider-Man: Homecoming Review of Some Sort

Despite the fact that I watched this movie on Friday the 21st of July, it’s taken me a few days to actually write this article. And that’s made even worse by the fact that Spider-Man: Homecoming was released on the 7th of July, making me super late to the party (although movies always come late here because they need Greek translations). I’ve needed time to, I don’t know, digest it maybe? But that implies that Spider-Man: Homecoming was a hard movie to watch, when it really wasn’t. This is what, the third attempt at a Spider-Man movie franchise in the… [Continue Reading]

The Mummy (2017) Review – Meh

Oh hey, Medic’s late to reviewing a movie! Oh well, doesn’t matter, I might end up saving you a few quid. The only reason I went was because The Mummy, the first film of Universal Studios’ new Dark Universe series, was the only film on at 10pm on a Saturday at my local movie place. The four of us (me, my siblings and my cousin) had already seen the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. While Pirates of the Caribbean movie was a standard kids’ movie making money off an already existing franchise and merchandise that I didn’t feel mentioning,… [Continue Reading]

Rings (3) – A Review

Today, we’re going to talk about something slightly different. A movie. I actually watch quite a lot of movies but I don’t often review them because I forget to. Rings, or Rings 3 as it was marketed here in Cyprus, is an attempt to break that forgetfulness. But also because 1. I saw Rings on Valentines Day with my siblings and 2. there’s something off about the whole thing. Also the fricking subtitle “Evil Is Reborn” gives away the entire film. Nice one, marketing people. That being said, I’m going to try and avoid spoilers, but if you want to… [Continue Reading]

Streaming movies on Steam

Well it turns out Steam wants to be the new Netflix. I wouldn’t have known, looking at my Steam Store page, but other countries appear to have a banner saying that a bunch of movies by Lionsgate are available for streaming. I wouldn’t have actually known about this had General_B not told me about it, but there’s literally no trace of this existing at all. Also Cyprus is a country, dammit. This isn’t the first time Steam has tried stuff like this. We’ve had movies on Steam before, the Meet the Team videos are all available for download, as is… [Continue Reading]
