The Civil War of Skyrim

The Civil War in Skyrim, between the Empire and the Stormcloaks, is one of those rather split stories. Players tend to go one way or the other and stick to their beliefs. It’s really not a clear cut thing like killing or sparing Paarthurnax. Really, the Civil War is a hugely complex issue and one single article can’t really do it justice, but I’ll try. First off, some specifics. Whatever side you pick in the Civil War, nothing really changes apart from the guards and the Jarls, and a handful of more extreme supporters on either side. Whiterun never gets… [Continue Reading]

A Distinct Lack of Comics and Love

I LOVE the TF2 comics. I really do. They, and by extension all the other non-game media we get for TF2, are all absolutely amazing, bringing a new dimension to what is otherwise just a cartoony first person shooter. Valve have said it themselves, comics and videos are a third way to actually give TF2 some sort of story, even if it is absolutely batshit crazy. But although I can understand delays in these things, sometimes there’s something… missing. Part of the reason why I’m writing this article is because Jay Dorris hasn’t finished his article. Jay Dorris is a… [Continue Reading]

On the molasses-like progress of League of Legends lore

Hi everyone! Today, I’ll be talking about the lore of League of Legends. Around the time of the Shurima update, the League of Legends was abruptly removed from the lore of League of Legends. At the time, Riot’s Lore team said that the League and the Institute of War were holding them back creatively, as they had to give each champion reasons to be there. They promised that, with the League gone, they’d be able to expand into new territories, improve their writing and be able to come out with more content. At the same time, the Lore team removed… [Continue Reading]

On Paarthurnax

Paarthurnax, for those who don’t know, is a very nice, grey, scarred dragon who sits at the Throat of the World in Skyrim. He’s crucial to the main story line, and sets you on the path to learn the shout Dragonrend, which was created by men and used to help defeat Alduin, the big bad guy, back in the dragon wars. And since Alduin has returned, it’s probably a good idea to have the Dragonborn be able to get the bastard to land on the ground so he can actually defeat him. This nice old dragon actually doesn’t seem to… [Continue Reading]

On Becoming a Parody of Your Former Self

I’ve been re-reading and re-watching a lot of TF2 stuff lately. While my desire to actually play the game has fizzled out lately, I’ve always been a fan of the crazy TF2 back story. Always will. But my recent reviewing of it all has made me notice a few things. Things are changing. In ways I’m not sure I like. It hit me when I read Gargoyles and Gravel Pits, the Scream Fortress 2015 comic. In it, Medic is depicted as a complete lunatic, while Engineer is pretty chill about everything. And I realised that Medic has gone more and… [Continue Reading]

Come on already!

I’m a very patient person normally. I’ll wait my turn. It’s part of my British heritage that I’m otherwise not very proud of. But now I’m starting to think that I’ve waited enough. I’m talking about the damn TF2 comic series. Quick note. I know there’s people who haven’t read all the comics yet, so spoiler alert. Seriously though this whole thing started in 2013. 2013, I TELL YOU! Deep breath, Medic. Deep breath. The original plan was 6 comics, published bi-monthly. One every two months, not one every two weeks, like some of us had hoped. After reading through… [Continue Reading]

“Just a girl with a fucking huge hammer!”

Poppy as a League of Legends champion has been a pain in the ass for years. She had very little voice lines, a horrible model and a selection of abilities that either made her automatically lose the game or automatically win the game depending on the last time she got buffed, often leaning towards the former, because the latter was fucking terrifying. Poppy’s ultimate ability, for example, allowed her to become invulnerable to almost all damage from everyone except her target. The idea was that she and her target would fight to the death, but most Poppys used their ultimate… [Continue Reading]

On League of Legends and its Lore

The other day, the new revamp for one of League of Legends’ least popular and hardest to balance champions was announced, and bloody hell, it really is a revamp. The new Poppy looks both amazing and much easier to balance. Because sadly Ubercharge-style abilities don’t work in LoL. This is following the release of Illaoi, the second of the tentacle-using champions and someone who can rip your soul out and use it as a punching bag. Of course, with new characters comes new lore, but League of Legends hasn’t been doing great on that mark. A while ago, before the… [Continue Reading]

Mixed up Valve Timelines and You

Valve are known for their strange, confusing story telling, with mixed up, confusing timelines. The question that has bothered many is whether our favourite first person shooter series is connected to the other popular first person shooter, the fps storytelling cliff hanger, the puzzle game and the zombie survival game. Are Valve’s games all connected to one another? Sadly, right off the bat, the world of Team Fortress is not connected. The catch up comic starts in the 1800s, predating really any other game. Unless Dota 2 is set in the past, but the variety of magics and technologies, plus… [Continue Reading]

TF Comics #5 is FINALLY here!

The fifth installment of the TF Comic series is finally here, after a stupidly long wait. Amazingly, it actually landed on the Monday deadline, disappointing those who hoped it’d miss the bi-yearly and yearly deadline. This comic is 79 pages of your normal Team Fortress comic-y action, featuring not one but two teams! And some other people. And crazy stuff. As always. So what are you waiting for, go read it! Meanwhile, I’ll just sit here, waiting for you to come back. Because I want to bulk this article out a little bit. I don’t like short articles really. *waits… [Continue Reading]
