A Season of Misunderstood Mischief

For this season of Pokemon GO, things have been a tad different. It’s been multiple months of mischief. And along side it, we actually have a quest for a new Mythical Pokemon. However, unlike normal Mythical Pokemon quests, Hoopa’s quest has a small twist on things. A good idea in theory Misunderstood Mischief is an attempt to do something new. Rather than just release the entire quest in one go, Misunderstood Mischief is designed to work alongside current events in Pokemon GO. Each of the research’s steps tied in with concurrent events, making it a tad easier to follow. In… [Continue Reading]

Seven Hours for a Zarude

All of a sudden, we are swimming in special research. Pokemon GO does tend to have a lot of research tasks. But many of them are based on an event and just give a handful of extra rewards. On the flip side, we’ve also had a lot of special research, which can be done at our leisure. Currently, we have Hoopa research and Meloetta research. But on October 1st, we got something that’s genuinely really new. Zarude Special Research Yep, before the many Mythical Pokemon we don’t have, we had a Zarude research task thrown at us. The only real… [Continue Reading]

Timed Research Needs Better Rewards

We’ve had a lot of events lately, pretty much one after the other. As of writing, we are in a Luminous Legends event. There was one for Xerneas and one for Yveltal. Both these events and the ones before them came with timed research. This research worked the same way as special research except it’s, well, timed. But despite the rush to complete them, the rewards are always… kinda lame. Let’s look at the Luminous Legends X event as an example. The only good rewards were at the end. Luminous Legends X was a longer event than normal. It ran… [Continue Reading]

Sneasel Research Day

I honestly think these Pokemon GO research days are improving. Research days were originally a massive slog, which made people run around town for little reward. However, with each new research day, they seem to be improving on the formula. Sneasel Research Day, in my opinion, is one of the better ones yet. And of course, it can be played from now. Great for multiple reasons, mostly because we’ve had torrential downpours all day. Sneasel is a really good choice for a Pokemon. We’ve got a really strong ice type and a good contender when it comes to dark types.… [Continue Reading]

A Random Drifloon Research Event

I’ve clearly not been paying much attention to Pokemon Go, because we have yet another community research event! This event, slap-bang in the middle of the Halloween event, is all about Drifloon! Drifloon is a cute little Pokemon that kidnaps kids if they mistake it for a real balloon. It also has the most adorable yellow and blue shiny ever, so I’m surprised that I nearly forgot about this event! Amazingly, I actually managed to get a shiny super early on. But since this research event also gives you lots of other cool rewards, it was still worth doing all… [Continue Reading]

You NEED to finish the “An Inter-egg-sting Development” Research!

After months of staying in hiding, Giovanni is back with a new plan. There are new shadow eggs that contain… honestly pretty basic Pokemon, and we need to, uh, liberate them from Team Rocket! Alongside these new eggs, we have a new special research! And unlike the old Team Rocket special researches, this one is important. It has some pretty damn good rewards. But you gotta work for them. I’m gonna cut to the chase. You can’t miss out on these rewards. The new special research gives two things: Firstly, at the very end of the research, it gives you… [Continue Reading]

Alolan Meowth Community Research Day?

On the 10th of October, there was a community research day that I very nearly forgot about. This event involved doing research tasks. Lots and lots of them. And the reward? Alolan Meowth. With a potential to be shiny. A simple event, easy to do and with an okay chance at a normally rare shiny. Simple, but repetitive. The event went as follows: Do research, get Meowth. The research tasks are a set order, which repeat once. There’s about… 20 tasks which repeat… so 40 tasks total? A lot of them are the same and all of them include “catch… [Continue Reading]

Regigigas is Coming to Pokemon Go… If You Pay

Okay, I’m going to be honest right now, Regigigas will be available in EX Raids after Mewtwo. But if you want Regigigas and a special research quest, the same way we received Jirachi, Mew, Meltan and Celebi, then you have to pay for it. For the small price of $7.99, you can buy an item that will allow you to access a special research task that leads you to Regigigas, and also gives you other nice things like a special pose and some premium raid passes. Well, you would have to pay for it if the special research task item… [Continue Reading]

Clamperl Research Day

When I saw the announcement for the Clamperl Community Research event, I thought two things: “Why is Clamperl only being released now?” and “Oh heck, is this going to be like the Feebas event?” Thankfully, while the answer to the first question is unknown, the answer to the second question is a resounding “NO!” It seems that Niantic learned a huge amount from the Feebas event because this Clamperl event was a billion times easier. First off, the research. Far better research. The Make Nice Throws and Make Great Throws tasks returned, but their numbers were reduced to 5 Nice… [Continue Reading]

Quest for a Wired, Nutty Ditto – Let’s Go, Meltan

To coincide with the release of the new Let’s Go: Pikachu and Eevee games on the Nintendo Switch, Pokemon Go received an update and a mini event. The update includes a quest that rewards you with a brand new Pokemon, exclusive to the Switch games and Pokemon Go – the weird thing known as Meltan. Meltan first appeared after the Chikorita community day, replacing all the Chikoritas and other Pokemon who were roaming around. I actually saw one before the event ended, sitting between a couple of Chikoritas, and assumed it was just a broken placeholder or something, especially considering… [Continue Reading]
