Where is the TFC Medic?.. and other TFC Merc thoughts

The Team Fortress Classic mercenaries have long been thought dead, despite the fact that Team Fortress Classic itself is still playable (as is Fortress Forever, but that’s a whole separate thing!) and all that, with a tight knit community that will kick newbies’ asses from here to kingdom come. Point is, they’ve been alive the entire time despite looking like they came from the future. And the TF Comic series, which introduced us to more of the TFC mercs last time and proved that TFC Pyro was female, has been doing a fine job of getting them more time in… [Continue Reading]

Can we update the bots now please?

Your internet connection is broken. You’re bored. You don’t know what to do with yourself. You open up TF2 in the vague hope that it’ll somehow fix your internet connection. You’re wrong. So you play a bot game. And you realise how ooooold and tired they are. The first problem that’s immediately obvious is that bots don’t work on every single map. Actually, most of the new maps don’t seem to work with bots at all. Why is this? TF2’s bots work because they’re told where they can and can’t go by a navigation mesh. The game can automatically create… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Opinions on the new Decorated Weapons

Meh. Lots and lots of meh. Okay, let’s be somewhat serious here and have an actual conversation about all of these dramatic changes that have suddenly appeared in TF2. It’s clear as day that hats no longer sell. So Valve has turned to weapons and taunts, things that people do actually see, even while they’re killing people. Hats were going to have to die down at some point, we have over 1000 of them, not all of them technically hats, but still, that’s a lot. There’s not enough backpack space to actually own every hat in the game. So here… [Continue Reading]

Why I play League of Legends

When I say I play League of Legends, most people I know roll their eyes and sigh. Despite League of Legends having a literal fuckton of players, it seems that 90% of people I know really dislike the game. They look at me as if I’m some sort of masochist maniac. Well they’re wrong. There’s other reasons why I like League of Legends. The first reason is that I like the art style. Sadly, the style has been changing over the years, going for a more detailed, darker, Dota look. But when I started playing, everything was bright colours and… [Continue Reading]

So Miss Pauling is now gay…

According to the head writer of the TF Comic series, which probably won’t come out for another month or so due to them having been working on other things Valve-related, there’s some actual news. As for what they’ve been working on, it’s probably Dota 2 stuff. Frankly, all of Valve’s other games are getting tired of Dota 2 getting all the attention. It’s not even a proper Valve game. Anyway, as I was saying, they announced that Miss Pauling, the action-packed assistant to the Administrator, is a lesbian. Now, I’m not normally one to complain about these things. As far… [Continue Reading]

Some things you shouldn’t do in a Free To Play game

Today, we turn into some sort of Buzz Feed thingy and talk about a bunch of things that people rally shouldn’t put in their Free to Play games. Yes, I know you make these games to make money, but there’s plenty of ways you can do it without pissing off players. Non-pissed off players are more likely to tell other people about your game and spend money on it than pissed off players will. So let’s begin. Number 1 – Pay To Win This is always number one on any sort of Free To Play checklist. Is there anything in… [Continue Reading]

Catastrophe Averted?

It’s just typical that, when I take a week off from writing articles (thank you, aabicus!) and just post the backlog of stuff that I already have (again, thank you aabicus), that everything starts blowing up. Big time. Now I’m sitting here, writing this article and being massively late on everything that’s happened. On the plus side, I can sit here all smug and go over it all with you. On the 23rd of April, Valve announced a new way to support modders. This was the brand spanking new Paid Mods for the Skyrim Workshop. Basically, some mods now required… [Continue Reading]

My Little Mercenaries

The following series of words condensed into sentences and paragraphs was written at half past three in the morning while the author was drunk on Doctor Pepper. As such, it is not to be taken seriously. – Team Fortress 2 had been paired with many games, such as Borderlands, Left 4 Dead, Alien: Isolation and even Plants vs Zombies and (if you tilt your head, let your eyes unfocus and squint while in a dark room) some might even say Five Nights At Freddy’s. Much rarer though, is being paired with popular TV shows. There’s at least two references to Doctor… [Continue Reading]

How an FPS Should (and Shouldn’t) Reward Experience

While I’m not the Valve-only gamer I was a few years ago, I do seem to always find myself coming back to Valve’s pre-eminent titles. No matter how many times I grow tired of their old games and branch out in the hopes of finding similar but fresh content, I always eventually come crawling back for more Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress or Counter-Strike. Recently I took a bit of time to try and puzzle out just what exactly Valve had done to continually attract me so. And I think I’ve figured it out. The single best thing about Valve games in… [Continue Reading]

What’s the point of Quick Play?

What’s the point of Quick Play? It’s stupid. It’s ruined community servers, it’s strangled community content and it DOESN’T EVEN WORK CORRECTLY. It’s simply not worth using. And I’m going to give you a bunch more reasons why you shouldn’t bother touching Quickplay. use the Server Browser. It’s way better. Here’s why. VS 1. More options. The Server Browser has way more options than Quickplay. Quickplay’s options are all hidden behind a little button, that you have to click. The Server Browser though displays all the settings that a server currently has: number of players, map, server tags (which tells you… [Continue Reading]
