Great Moments in Left 4 Dead 2 Speedruns

PCI Gaming has released a new speedrun! They’re one of my favorite L4D2 channels on YouTube and you should definitely check it out. (Keep an eye out for yours truly, who appears at 2:54!) While recently PCI Gaming have been releasing 4-person speedruns of the default maps, they first made a name for themselves through their solo speedruns, where a single player blitzed through the map without allies or even bots. (Which was why they appeared in my video discussing L4D2 soloers). In honor of their new video I thought I could dedicate an article to my favorite moments from… [Continue Reading]

Another Look at Trinity

The last time I looked at Trinity, the primary healing character in Warframe, I wasn’t a fan of her. I found her tedious and awkward, while acknowledging that, with the right setup, she could be really strong. Of course, back then, I still didn’t have Continuity, nor did I have many of the higher end mods that make Trinity good. Now that I do, I think it’s time to look back at her. Basically, Trinity is the best support character one could ever ask for in a video game. Or at least, she would be if it wasn’t for her… [Continue Reading]

In Which Medicinal Warlock Writes Articles

For our 1600th post, Medicinal Warlock looked back at some of his favorite articles on our blog. It was a great little compilation of articles, but he didn’t include any of his own. Since he’s one of our most prolific contributors, I thought I’d highlight–in no particular order–some of my personal favorites of the many articles he’s submitted to the Daily SPUF! This is my favorite of the articles Warlock has written about the TF2 cosmetics because it covers a lot of interesting ground about the cosmetic’s real-life counterpart and ties the hat into the history of Team Fortress 2. I… [Continue Reading]

Twelve Against Twelve

There’s a trend in modern multiplayer first person shooters that disturbs me. No, it’s not the modern military shooter, that trend is already dying out. It’s not the rise of hero shooters either, since I do enjoy Paladins when I have enough to actually build a damn loadout. Overwatch I’m not too fussed about, but that’s partly because of the rather lackluster customization options available (I want my hats, dammit!). No, it’s an issue that I’ve been noticing for some time. Team sizes are shrinking. Overwatch, by default, is a 6v6 game. Paladins is a 5v5 game. Dirty Bomb has… [Continue Reading]

Type:Rider

Ever felt like becoming a colon and travelling back in time to discover the origins of the written word and the future of typography? Of course you haven’t, because that would be insane. But if you’ve ever wanted to accomplish such a feat while also being in the guise of a platformer, then boy, do I have an oddly specific game for you… You should probably see a therapist. All the levels are based on fonts that were famous during their respective time period. You roll, jump and rotate around levels constructed out of individual letters, grabbing the letters of… [Continue Reading]

Shocking Capacitance

Augments in Warframe are a weird thing. They’re supposed to allow you to customize your Warframe’s abilities so you can play more how you want, but most frames only have one or two augments in total. Even older characters like Frost and Volt only have one per ability, and I don’t think any frames have more than one for any of their abilities. Really though, a lot of augments are simply buffs, with very minor downsides. Normally, the only downside is that you could put a normal mod where you put an augment, but it really depends on the character.… [Continue Reading]

The Scotsman’s Skullcutter

I’m really not fussy when it comes to Demoman melee weapons. I don’t mean Demoknight melee weapons, because that I do care about. I used to be a fan of the Persian Persuader before it was murdered and a pretender put in his place. I then messed around with my HHHH for a bit. But truth be told, I like it better when things go ka-BOOM. So I only ever ran Demoknight when I ever touched Medieval Mode. In normal gameplay, I prefer to be chucking bombs from a comfortable distance. And don’t you dare suggest that I’m spamming explosives blindly,… [Continue Reading]

Hyped up for the Plains of Eidolon

Digital Extremes, the developers of Warframe, blew the entire community’s minds when they revealed the Plains of Eidolon at Tennocon 2017. Everyone was sitting there expecting an Excalibur Umbra reveal and it turned out that Umbra was just a little thing tacked on to something amazing. A quest that’s supposedly coming after this amazing thing. A thing that I kinda didn’t really write much about, since the gameplay video really said it all, but since time’s passed and we’ve got some new details, it’s worth looking back and getting a little hyped about. The Plains of Eidolon have been advertised… [Continue Reading]

Some Ideas for New Minecraft Biomes

While Minecraft has come a long way when it comes to terrain and the variety of biomes it has, there could always be more. As you spawn into a new world and wander around, it takes time to find anything interesting. There’s trees, hills, grass, mountains. Sometimes those trees, hills, grass and mountains will have snow on them. Sometimes you’ll see a desert. But most of the time it’s all the same. The genuinely interesting biome variants, things like Bryce Mesas, Mushroom Islands and Ice Spike Plains, are often so rare that you could go for weeks without seeing anything… [Continue Reading]

Cyprus Comic Con 2017 – Thoughts

So, Cyprus Comic Con day one has passed and now we’re on day two. I’m writing this at 9am after a nice little breakfast at a hotel fifteen minutes away. Brother slept like a log, but me and sister couldn’t really sleep. Dunno why. Breakfast at the hotel was basic. Ham, cheese, eggs, bread, cereal. Mini buffet thing. The hotel is super quiet. It actually mostly has older people in it. I assume most non-locals booked places closer or just went home. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact that sister REALLY wanted to go to the after party, we… [Continue Reading]
