Don’t Trust the Milkman – A Call of Cthulhu Saga

This article’s a bit out of left-field, as it’s not about video games. Instead, today I wanted to discuss a tabletop RPG I’ve always wanted to try and recently got my wish. Except for a short one-off in my undergrad years, Call of Cthulhu has always somehow evaded my gaming tables. Like most social events, it would lay dormant and unable to find a group willing to get together to play. But thanks to the Covid-19 lockdown, my gaming group finally decided to give Call of Cthulhu a try via Tabletop Simulator. Since then, we’ve been hooked and played a… [Continue Reading]

Venom: Let There Be Carnage random review

The other day, I saw Venom: Let There Be Carnage at the cinema. Rather amusingly, I had never watched the first movie, but, like, it was Venom. I’ve read tons of comics with Venom in, so I already had a vague idea what was going on. That being said, I actually didn’t even need to see it. Let There Be Carnage doesn’t really need it. Anyway here’s a random review of this movie. Before I start., there may be spoilers! Read at your own risk! The same old pattern of good guy fighting bad guy with same powers Not gonna… [Continue Reading]

My Favourite Letter in the Greek Alphabet

Greek is a cool language. It’s one of the oldest languages out there and it dips its toes in so many other languages. Even with modern English, we still use bits of Greek, squished and squashed into Latin before moving into our home language. When ancient languages mix with English, weird things can happen. Before we can start though, we kinda need to talk about the Greek alphabet. It’s not as hard as it looks. The Greek alphabet at first glance genuinely looks a bit scary. We have a few letters that sound and look the same. But we also… [Continue Reading]

Amazing

I am sitting here, in front of my screen, trying to decide what I want to write about. There are many, many choices. Many of which will probably be about video games. After all, this IS a video game blog. However, today, I don’t fancy doing that. Instead, I am just reflecting on the other week and all the things that happened. Things were somewhat hectic, other things were simply bad. But at the end of the day, I am still here. That week though was a rather specifically bad week. Bad things kept on cropping up. I spent chunks… [Continue Reading]

A Random Wrestling Article

I have always kinda liked wrestling. While most people just shrug it off as nothing but a fancy show, that doesn’t mean that wrestling is all bad. If anything, I think it’s more of an acquired taste. And that’s okay, because not everything is geared towards everyone. If you don’t like wrestling, you can always watch something else. There is definitely some nuance when it comes to wrestling. And some storytelling. And a lot of acting. It takes genuine skill though to throw someone into a table without killing them. The fancier matches are fun, but so are the normal… [Continue Reading]

A Product Safety Stream

I don’t normally talk about my real world jobs on here. Mostly because a lot of it has to stay secret. I’ve done a huge amount of freelance graphic and web design over the years. It ranges from helping freshly founded new businesses, updating old businesses and an all-round business to business But occasionally, I’ll get a really strange request. One that doesn’t normally fit with what I normally do. This event was a Product Safety Award ceremony, hosted by the European commission. Rewards were being handed out based on two specific categories: “Protecting the safety of vulnerable consumer groups”… [Continue Reading]

Claw Machines and Winning

Funnily enough, I’m not really an arcade person. I have always preferred playing games at home, rather than playing arcade machines that hundreds of others have also touched. But that level of concern would always disappear at the sight of a claw machine. Claw machines are simple: a metal claw hovers over some prizes. You have to use that claw to grab a prize. Most of the time, the claw slips and you don’t get a prize. Where I live, arcades aren’t that common, but there is an arcade in each of the big malls here. And I’ve tried a… [Continue Reading]

Confusion with New Mastery Ranks

“Hey! What are you doing here?” Volt glanced away from the console he was trying to hack, so he could see who was shouting at him. “Uh, hacking the console so we can leave this ship before it explodes?” Volt replied calmly. The Tenno in person was a Gauss, with all the armour he could fit on his body. “You’re not supposed to be in this Sortie mission!” “Uh, why not?” With a flick of his wrist, Volt retracted his Parazon and started heading towards extraction, as did the rest of the team. However, the Gauss kept on sprinting forward… [Continue Reading]

The Desire for Cookies

I love cookies. Cookies are great. They are the perfect happy snack. Small and round and thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately, they’re also really bad and naughty. “British Cookies or American Cookies?” Well, both. Unlike its similar friend, the humble biscuit, confusing cookies with each other isn’t really an issue. In both UK English and USA English, the first thing that popped to mind is a chocolate chip cookie. However, the real difference depends mostly on how soft the cookie is. American cookies are normally considered to be quite soft, even maybe a little chewy. Most British cookies are somewhat hard, and… [Continue Reading]

IT IS BIG AND IT IS CLEVER!

Editor’s note: The article you are about to read was originally written in 2008 by my mum, an all-round amazing woman. Today is the day she left us, so, instead of writing something myself, I am publishing this article in her memory. Mum was simply the best, kindest person ever, always pleased to see you. She also loved swearing and creating new insults. It’s an honour to be able to share some more of her work with you. I hope you all enjoy this sliver of my mum’s brilliance and insanity. Rated R, of course. IT IS BIG AND IT… [Continue Reading]
