In Which SilverWolf Writes Articles

A while back I wrote a piece showcasing some of my favorite articles MedicinalWarlock has contributed to the blog. I originally accidentally included the dm_duel article in that list before noticing that SilverWolf had written it! Just like Warlock, SilverWolf is one of our most frequent contributors, and he’s written enough articles that left a lasting impression on me that I wanted to take the time to pay them some lip service. Like I mentioned in the comments section when this article was first released, dm_duel holds a special place in my heart as well. Back in the early days, when… [Continue Reading]

Paladins, Fanservice, and Waifus

banner

First up, the line “I’m afraid it’s gonna attract horny 13 year olds” is hilarious. Not only are there much better games for that out there on Steam, the fact that said 13 year olds clearly have access to the Internet means that they should have access to much better sources of satisfaction if that is what they are after. But yes, this is a somewhat valid topic about Paladins. The female characters in the game are rather, erm, well-equipped if you see what I mean. Not to mention, going by the way they dress you would’ve assumed that the game… [Continue Reading]

Wait, what, Team Fortress 2 turns 10 round about today?

We're still partying here in the Steam Powered User Forums!

You’re kidding me, right? Team Fortress 2, that silly war-themed hat simulator? That game with the goofy classes and even goofier weapons and cosmetics, is ten years old? Seriously? Well according to Team Fortress 2’s Steam Store page, yes, it is. October 10th, 2007. A whole decade ago. Bloody hell. That’s a pretty long time. Okay, it’s not really that long in the grand scheme of things. After all, I’m twenty five years old at the time of writing. The real TF2 Medic, if he were actually real, would probably be in his 80’s at least. Although the real Medic… [Continue Reading]

Tea Talk: Team Fortress 2 in general

I brewed some tea

Team Fortress 2 is ten years old. Most people would’ve known this. But I feel that this point bears repeating. To be very honest, it isn’t exactly that easy to tell sometimes, since the stylized art ages pretty OK. But because it’s ten years old, it has understandably lost some of its luster. Every time a new game comes out, it’ll chip away at least a sliver of TF2’s playerbase. The game is fighting a battle of attrition against the rest of the gaming industry for 10 years. Aside from that, as more and more new names enter the arena,… [Continue Reading]

A Little To-Do List before visiting the Plains of Eidolon

This Valkyr has nothing to do with the Plains of Eidolon, but she looks nice.

“I’m very excited now. The anticipation. Ooh. I always learn so much… from a live dissection.” – Tyl Regor The smooth-voiced Grineer scientist’s thoughts have been echoing around the Warframe community ever since the Plains of Eidolon was announced. And yes, there will probably be a lot of dissecting (well, vivisecting, to use the proper term) going on as everyone uncovers secrets and stuff. Now, with a deadline so close, everyone’s so excited and that excitement is hard to contain. Of course, there’s going to be tons of players, old and new, all rushing around Earth, but not all of… [Continue Reading]

The Zenistar

An awesome Volt and an awesome Zenistar

There’s not much I dislike about Warframe, but one thing I dislike is the daily login rewards, known as Daily Tributes. It’s as if the Lotus is saying to you “oh god, thanks for coming back, Tenno! Here’s a token of my gratitude.” And by ‘token’, she means token. Your Daily Tribute is often a single ‘rare’ component, ones that can be found in any mission on any planet, and by the time you’ve reached your 200th tribute, you’ve probably got tons of. One piece of Gallium. One Neurode. One Fieldron Sample. Sometimes you’ll get a random blueprint for literally… [Continue Reading]

Give Everyone Vacuum Already

Suck up all that loot, Carrier. SUCK IT UP!

For the longest of times, I’ve used Carrier and his big brother Carrier Prime. While Carrier Prime looks much less like a floating nut sack, it does have more armour and is all-round tankier, having more armour than many actual Warframes. The main reason I use them is for Ammo Case, a mod that converts unused ammo into ammo I actually need. The second reason I use Carrier is for Vacuum. The reason I’m writing this article is because I finally matured Spasma, my Helminth Charger, and leveled her up to 30. It was a boring, tedious experience. For some… [Continue Reading]

Tea Talk: Giving money to Paladins

I brewed some tea

I have not spent a single cent on Paladins. And that is strange, because I really don’t see why not. I really enjoy the game, I’m rather invested in it, and I like Hi-Rez. Somewhat. I did talk about how I feel that Hi-Rez’s business model feels exploitative. Granted, they did made grinding easier since then, but the grind still feels so painfully long. The new champion always seem just that little bit out of reach. And the whole time I was at the champion screen, the Founder’s Pack ad is at the side, silently taunting me for not giving… [Continue Reading]

Just Cause 2

jet

Just Cause 2 is where all productivity goes to die. Really, the moment I bought the game, my productivity goes to hell. I can’t even be productive enough to complete in-game missions since I’m either doing the sidequests, hunting for collectibles, or simply just flying around the land. And I swear my body’s half as productive too. My eyes barely blink and I stop feeling hungry, so whenever I stopped playing after a long session I turned into a weeping, starving mess. This game is really, really pretty. The environment is gorgeous, rich, varied and filled with detail. You have… [Continue Reading]

A Tribute to Half Life 2’s Male07 Civilian

Gordon Freeman encounters a lot of different people when he emerges from his mysterious sleep to find himself in an alien-occupied Earth in Half-Life 2. Assetwise, Valve used a handful of models to represent these civilians and Resistance members. But why is male07 far and away the most popular civilian among the Half-Life community? With his thin beard, widow’s peak, bald spot, and a dash of the real-life poser’s handsomeness, male07 is in all respects and purposes an average character model. The first fan project to give male07 special treatment was the fancomic Concerned: The Half-Life and Death of Gordon Frohman. Author Christopher C.… [Continue Reading]
