Apocryph (Alpha) Impressions

Banner

“Apocryph an old-school fantasy shooter such as Hexen, Heretic, Painkiller and Strife..” The video drew my attention, and that isn’t just because the title name dropped Painkiller. The aesthetic and the rather awesome minigun-staff is what made me pay attention to the video. And since the dev is giving out the alpha build for free, I decided to download it and gave it a spin. The first thing I noticed was that the main character’s picture on the HUD makes him look like a younger Geralt of Rivia who joined KISS as a backup drummer. The atmosphere was grimy and dark, and… [Continue Reading]

Ode to the Second Banana

Boy howdy, haven’t made an article in a long while. In fact, this is the first article I’ve ever made on the new domain here. And who would’ve guessed that what drove me to it would be a simple yellow tropical fruit? Yes. I’m talking about the Second Banana. The banana is by far my second favorite new weapon of the Jungle Inferno update; right behind the Thermal Thruster. It’s so simple, yet so fucking good. In the dark, banana-less age of when the banana had not yet been brought into existence, the Sandvich was the undisputed champion of Heavy secondaries,… [Continue Reading]

The other Pyro weapons from Jungle Inferno

Banner

I talked at length about the Gas Passer, giving my thoughts on how it is as a weapon and as part of a loadout, as well as some of my proposed changes for it. Personally, I like the idea of it, but the Gas Passer is rather underwhelming right now. As for the other Pyro weapons introduced in this update, I’m rather happy with them. So for today, I’ll go through them and give my thoughts on the new additions to Pyro’s arsenal. Before I continue, please read this Reddit thread on the Dragon’s Fury for a brief rundown on… [Continue Reading]

On Digging Holes and Trenches

Underground Cavern in Minecraft

I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority when I say that I’d rather dig a trench than go spelunking in Minecraft. The whole point of Minecraft is going into deep caves, exploring, discovering dungeons and strongholds, fighting off monsters and finding diamonds. Then most likely going round in circles as you wander through caverns and try to remember which way the exit is. Me though? I’m not into that. It’s mainly two things. Firstly, skeletons are bastards. Every other mob in the game is fine, but I hate skeletons and their dumb sounds and their stupid aim. The only good… [Continue Reading]

Help Stop Retards in the US Government from Repealing Net Neutrality!

Kinda ironic that this emblem was adopted by the US Tea Party movement, the sort of people who are voting to repeal net neutrality...

Hey look, those dickbags in the US government are trying to repeal something that the majority of the population wants to keep! Net Neutrality might not be as vital to one’s continued existence as healthcare is, but it’s still important. The Oatmeal has a really nice thing explaining Net Neutrality and I suggest you go read that. Go on, it’s not that long. The sad thing is, that’s from 2014. We’re in 2017 now. TechCrunch wrote a nice article discussing the more technical arguments against Net Neutrality and why they’re not so great. We’ve already had a Defend Net Neutrality… [Continue Reading]

Tea Talk: “Lootboxes are OK because they’re only cosmetic!”

I brewed some tea

The recent Star Wars Battlefront II fiasco that was being reported and discussed both within and without the gaming community increases people’s scrutiny towards lootboxes. And during this time, a particular group of players started coming out and claiming they have a game which implements lootboxes the right way. The Overwatch community have been vocal about how well OW’s lootboxes are implemented as compared to SWBF2. The common sentiment among those cheering for OW’s lootboxes is that OW does it right since it’s cosmetics only, so you can’t gain a gameplay advantage from the loot. Some among them also think that the microtransactions… [Continue Reading]

An Appreciation for Pyro’s Other Secondary Firearms

The introduction of the Gas Passer and the Thermal Thruster is rather revolutionary. Before the Jungle Inferno update, the Pyro’s secondaries are either shotguns or flare guns, mid-range weapons to help cover the flamethrowers’ lack of range. Some pack burst damage, some of them are pretty good utility tools, but they are all here to help extend Pyro’s rather mediocre reach. The Gas Passer and the Thermal Thruster are the first Pyro secondaries to not do so. Rather, they are pure utility tools, like the Jarate or the Banners. Sure, the Thruster can deal damage, but charging into enemies without… [Continue Reading]

Four-Way Food Fight

Banner

The Jungle Inferno update brought Heavy a new lunchbox item, stealth buffed an existing one, and changed some other weapons, leading to changes in loadouts to work with their new stats. Once again, the viability and usage of each lunchbox item shifts again. Today, we’ll take a look at the four lunchbox items for the Heavy in TF2 post Jungle Inferno and see where they stand compared to each other. The Sandvich is similar to the Buff Banner, the Flare Gun and the Chargin’ Targe in one way. They serve as the first example of their weapon subcategory (lunchboxes, banners, flare… [Continue Reading]

A Nostalgic Ramble – GaiaOnline

GaiaOnline, as it looks today.

I like to think that I discovered the internet in 2007. This was the year that I had my own personal computer with an internet connection and was finally free of parental surveillance. The first thing I did was lurk across a bunch of sites, before joining BZPower under the name Phovos the Raptor. That was the start of my online life. I browsed a lot of sites. I discovered SPUF in 2009 but didn’t join until 2010, when I started playing Team Fortress 2 properly. I discovered a lot of places back then and didn’t join until later. One… [Continue Reading]

A Jack of all Trades on the Plains

Volt on the Plains of Eidolon

“Bloody hell Medic stop with the Warframe content!” some of you may beg. No. I like Warframe. And some of our Warframe content is the most viewed stuff on the site. Plus, I feel I might have some useful tips for those who are newer to the game. “But you’re going to talk about Volt again, aren’t you?” Yes, actually. Because there’s so much stuff going on in the Plains of Eidolon that you need someone who can do a bit of everything. And Volt might not be the best at everything, but he’s bloody good at a lot of… [Continue Reading]
