The Current State of Demoknight

Alright, so its been a good 5 or so months since Tough Break at the time of writing this article. It’s no news flash that Tough Break severely crippled Demoknight like a sledgehammer to the kneecaps. The Tide Turner went from being amazing and threatening to mediocre and a joke, since it can no longer get those precious charge crits. And the Claid, bless its soul, lost its ever-so-valuable charge duration increase, and fell from stardom, into the realm of obsolete weapons. Not to mention how the dear Persian Persuader, one of the more fun and unique melees, went from… [Continue Reading]

MeeM’s thoughts on difficulty and continuity

Often, I find myself asking: “why are you still doing this” or “your team isn’t trying, why should you”. And nearly every time I fail to answer, and then consequently die for not paying attention. But that’s the thing. Why did I die? I died because I made myself die. Not directly, rather I made the decision that I should die a couple of hours before playing. Now, I’m fairly certain most people, at some point in any game, get to a point where they no longer feel challenged and quickly after they become bored. At least this was true… [Continue Reading]

Why have we not fixed the Vita-Saw yet?

The Vita-Saw has gone unchanged for a very, very long time. Apart from bug fixes and being added in collector’s form, it has seen nothing what so ever in terms of anything interesting. It’s a boring, ugly, dull weapon. No one cares about it apart from Medics. You can speculate forever as to why Valve won’t change the Vita-Saw, but I feel it’s for two reasons. First, it’s a community weapon, which isn’t much of a reason, but Valve has a thing about accepting community changes, they’ve only recently been accepting them for hats only. Second, it’s very reminiscent of… [Continue Reading]

The Huntsman Sniper is a worse Combat Medic

This is one of those articles where the title kinda says it all. But of course, with such a big claim like “Huntsman Sniper is worse than Combat Medic”, I need to back up my claim with some sort of argument and, preferably, some evidence. Because evidence is cool and I am a man of science. But yes, the Huntsman Sniper is worse than a Combat Medic. Let’s look at the Huntsman first. Thirteen shots that need charging up for 1 second minimum to be able to do standard damage headshots, or 50 to 120 damage depending on how long… [Continue Reading]

Why TF2 is Hard

There’s a lot of talk about the states of publics nowadays, but one of the things that’s really hard to remember once you’ve got good at TF2 is how it is to be a new player. Most players worth their salt have played for a couple of hundred hours. To these people, TF2 is a fairly easy game. And why wouldn’t it be? TF2 is a game where most of the characters are extremely accessible. Soldier rockets splash. Grenades splash. Stickies splash. Flamethrower requires low aim. So does the minigun. So does Engineer. And especially Medic. But what if I told… [Continue Reading]

Why the “stats” discussion on any weapon forum doesn’t do anything

As I’ve just now gone through the Iron Gauntlet new stuff, I’ve come to realize that some of the biggest discussions about the update were about what statistics the new weapons should have. Let me tell you why no “STATS!” discussion will ever actually be useful. #1. There are certain things Valve will never add to the game. These include: weapons that increase a Heavy’s, Scout’s, or Medic’s maximum HP. The Dalokohs is an exception but is only a temporary buff. This is mainly based off the facts that: the Pretty Boy’s Pocket Pistol was changed, Medics are a keystone… [Continue Reading]

We’ve been getting new weapons all along!

The other day, aabicus mentioned that a weapon (the Persian Persuader to be precise) had essentially been removed from the game. While it hadn’t really been removed, the stats that make the Persian Persuader the Persian Persuader had been changed completely, making it a pretty mediocre weapon in the process. But as everyone screamed in realization as one of Demoman’s more interesting and niche melees had disappeared, something else occurred to me. We’ve been getting new weapons all along! The Persian Persuader is one of many of these new weapons. Alright, it doesn’t have the excitement of getting a new… [Continue Reading]

Carpet-bombing with the Iron Bomber

Demoman for the longest time was my least-played class, and for good reason. While classes like Soldier and Heavy do tons of damage even at low skill levels, good luck actually ever hitting anything if you intend to do the same as Demoman. He is an unusual class, with a deceptively high skill ceiling. The days of Left-Click-Right-Click-BOOM are a thing of the past. And since I already play one intense, deceptively hard class that everyone relies on, I never really fancied taking on another. That has changed. I’ve been edging towards playing more Demoman for ages, sick and tired… [Continue Reading]

Here’s to 2015

It hasn’t been a great year for Team Fortress 2. Not a bad year either, but definitely not a great year. Not even a good one, to be honest. And with SPUF currently not working very well, I’m not exactly a happy little Medic. Actually, I’m a sad little Medic who’s considering going and getting a beer right now. I don’t even drink. I have hated 2015, for many reasons. But this article’s about 2015 and TF2, not my life. The first half of the year was devoid of life. Nothing at all of interest happened until half way through… [Continue Reading]

My thoughts on the Demoknight changes

I am really not a fan of Demoknight. I think it’s a stupid, gimmicky class that interferes with the roles of Pyros and Spies, essentially doing their job better. And because melee hit detection is so bloody awful, you end up having your head chopped off through walls. “But Medic you can just dodge them or kill them before they get close!” I’m a fucking Medic. I can’t kill them, and you try dodging something that moves at 250% speed when you’re already watching out for everything else trying to murder you. The Tide Turner made things worse, as they’d… [Continue Reading]
