Confusing Comms: Health Callouts

An important part of competitive TF2 is communication. Being concise, clear and understandable are vital, especially as the environment you will be speaking in could have anywhere between 3-8 others all speaking at once while each listener is distracted by what is happening onscreen. It is no secret that the SPUF EU 6s and 4s team require improving with their co-op skills, so today I will talk about a simple aspect that is often overlooked: friendly health callouts. Enemy health callouts are well known, and the skills well practised. The term “lit” has entered even the vocabulary of non-competitive TF2… [Continue Reading]

Early Impressions and Strategies for the Beta PASS Game Mode

Let me start by saying that PASS is a hell of a lot of fun. It’s one of the first beta modes that feels like it should be in beta; it’s bizarre and completely different from anything TF2 has tried before, but it’s addicting and condones itself to all sorts of strategies and playstyles that really makes it stand out as a game mode. I genuinely hope this develops its own tournaments and things because it’s just as much fun to watch as it is to play. Everybody is still learning the ropes of this new game mode and there… [Continue Reading]

PASS Time – Pass, or Worth The Time?

I almost heard the collective groans and sighs from TF2 fans all over the world when the update notes dropped. Another Beta gamemode?! Not even a single map has been completed since the Beta started, yet Valve has apparently been busy at work creating yet another thing to be “tested”. What are they thinking? Well, simmer down there. Valve works in mysterious ways – At this point, are you still surprised at Valve making yet another mind-boggling, logic-defying decision? But let’s move on to the topic at hand. What is PASS Time? Think American football – with guns. There is a single ball… [Continue Reading]

A Comprehensive 100 Tour Review of Mann vs Machine

$429.84 Over the past 3 months, I’ve spent over $400 on Team Fortress 2: Mann vs. Machine. I want to provide an honest and accurate reflection of Mann vs. Machine, in addition to clearing up some of the misconceptions about the game mode that many of the newer players have. For those of you that are looking to continue or start playing MvM, this guide will lay out the basic details that you’ll need to determine whether or not MvM is right for you. You will not profit A lot of players start playing MvM in hopes of turning a… [Continue Reading]

On Accuracy

Hitscan guns in shooters often have two major qualities that people care about; how much damage they do and how accurate they are. (How quickly they fire is also relevant but in this article I’m focusing on the first two.) Which seems simple enough, because at the end of the day you want to know how fast your guns can kill things. But lots of shooters have been making the question a bit more difficult by introducing accuracy-affecting mechanics. Ways for a player to use positioning, modifications, skills, or game mechanics to manipulate the likelihood of a fired bullet hitting the… [Continue Reading]

The Best Battle Medic Set

I’m sure you’ve been in my boots before. You’re playing with a team of complete morons. They’re not listening. You’ve tried everything. They just shoot walls and ignore both you and the objective. You’re sick and tired and you want to kill someone in the most humiliating and painful way possible. You want to go Battle Medicing. Yes, I use the term Battle Medic as a verb sometimes. It amuses me. Big problem though, Battle Medics are pretty much useless. We’re looking at a class completely not designed for fighting, picking him up by the scruff of his fancy lab… [Continue Reading]

How Weapon Dropping Improved My Favorite TF2 Loadout

Let’s ignore the Ubercharge bit for a moment. The weapon-dropping mechanic on its own is surprisingly ineffectual considering what everyone started worrying about when they first heard it was going to become a thing. The weapons aren’t that easy to actually pick up, the presence of nothing but sidegrades and the fact that you have to drop a weapon you actually chose to equip means that in the grand scheme of things it’s just a fun new ability that opens up rare moments of awesome, aids in allowing players to try out skins they otherwise don’t own, and causes relatively… [Continue Reading]

6v6 – I might as well play Highlander…

Well, my first ever 6v6 season is finally over, and good fucking riddance. We won a single match, and that was at the beginning of the season, on Viaduct_pro, a really easy map. Every other match was either a forfeit or a complete steam roll. It really is not much fun, unless everyone’s dedicated on improving and is willing to scrim a billion times a week. Sixes is far too meta-y for my liking. “But Medic, what do you mean by it being meta-y?” I hear all three of you ask. Simple. If you don’t go along with the two… [Continue Reading]

The New Eureka Effect

Edit: Written before the new update, because Valve won’t let me write about the Eureka Effect without immediately changing the weapon. I remember being awe-inspired by the rebalances of the Eureka Effect. You can teleport directly to your exit now! No more waiting for your idiot teammates to stop hogging your teleporters, now you can take your battlefield transportation into your own hands! Then I basically tried to play with the Eureka like I would the stock wrench and quickly got bored like I always do. The real kicker didn’t come until a friend let me know that it works… [Continue Reading]

Unique Loadouts 1 – Direct hit + Buff Banner

This week’s loadout is brought to you by RabidKarim. “If I might make a suggestion have you tried Direct Hit and Buff Banner? It is really fun because mini crits have no fall off coupled with the direct hits extra damage and rocket speed you can hit 150 damage rockets from across the map.” When using this loadout I at first was incredibly frustrated, most of this stemming from me just being terrible with the Direct Hit. But after about 8 round of using this on mainly payload and KOTH, I found it is most effective on payload offense, especially… [Continue Reading]
