Junkrat – The Overwatch Demoman

Overwatch has a Sticky Jumper.  I couldn’t believe it when I found out. Junkrat’s playstyle is almost identical to my single most preferred playstyle in TF2. I just spent about two hours on the training map reaching all sorts of insane places with the concussion grenade. I am going to fall in love with this character, I just know it. Now, let be fair; he’s not as mobile as a Sticky Jumper Demoman. For one, he only gets one (recharging) conc grenade so he can’t fly particularly far with each jump, and he can’t chain them. No air pogos, no cross-country flights….but… [Continue Reading]

The League of Legends 6.9 Patch

Hey, look! It’s the League of Legends 6.9 patch! Hahaha, 6.9, get it? Sixty Nine? Right? Yeah. Bad joke, I know. But it seems like Riot have taken the fucking around thing and have REALLY messed things up this update. Patch 6.9, also known as the Mid year Mage update and the time that Ziggs destroyed every tower ever, went and shook up the mages, giving some of them some unique boosts, others some unneeded buffs and others some nerfs for no real reason. Unlike the other updates, the Juggernaut and Marksman updates, the Mage update has worked me up… [Continue Reading]

L4D2: The Campaigns Less Traveled

Recently my friend aDm soloed my favorite custom campaign in Left 4 Dead 2, Journey to Splash Mountain, on the hardest difficulty without bots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbxOsPwy6NM (In particular his amazing run of map 4 was quite cathartic, as we both learned in our personal solo runs that the Splash Mountain ride is undeniably the most difficult portion of the run. I also wish I’d noticed his trick to teleport gas cans to the generator when I’d done the finale.) In the Realism Expert Solo community, its rather rare to find people making use of the large and rich expansion of custom campaigns. Almost everybody sticks to… [Continue Reading]

I Attended DreamHack 2016!

DreamHack was in Austin this weekend, which means it was a short fifteen minutes away from my house! Due to other obligations, I was only able to attend on Sunday, but I was okay with that because it meant I’d get to see the Grand Finals of my first ever Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament. The CS:GO tournament in question was open only to North-American teams, though two Brazilian teams were also in attendance; Luminosity Gaming and Tempo Storm. Friday and Saturday had seen all but 4 teams eliminated in knockout format, and both of the aforementioned were still in circulation,… [Continue Reading]

Mercy: Overwatch’s Medic

As Medic just wrote a great article summing up our experiences with the Overwatch open beta, I thought I could get more specific and cover the classes I’ve enjoyed playing. By no means do I consider these extensive guides or anything; these are mostly first looks since I’ve hardly had time to play them. But of course I’m going to start with Mercy. Not only are medics inherently attractive from the perspective of an untrained newbie who wants to help his team, I’ve also got more hours playing Medic in TF2 than any character in video game history. Obviously the… [Continue Reading]

Phovos reviews Overwatch – Getting into our heads!

Hi, Phovos here! And guess what? We’re finally playing Overwatch! After failing to get into every single beta so far, we’ve been playing the Open Beta that lasts until May 9th. Overwatch is a ton of fun. The characters look cool, the maps are amazing, there’s free loot and it’s overall a blast to play. Very chaotic right now, because of the influx of players who don’t know what they’re doing, but still awesome. The maps are the best part of Overwatch, they’re really nice, good-looking maps, even with their long lines of sight and large amounts of choke points.… [Continue Reading]

Very Early Thoughts on Overwatch

This has been coming for a while. Really, we should have been bringing you tons of Overwatch articles, watching as the game, a spiritual successor of Team Fortress 2, evolved into whatever it currently is. Small problem, neither aabicus nor I were invited into any of the betas or anything and could only get our hands on it today. So now what you’ve all been waiting for. Medic talking about Overwatch. Okay, right off the bat, all my footage is ruined. OBS failed to record anything but a still image and sounds in the background. So there’s only going to… [Continue Reading]

The Current State of Demoknight

Alright, so its been a good 5 or so months since Tough Break at the time of writing this article. It’s no news flash that Tough Break severely crippled Demoknight like a sledgehammer to the kneecaps. The Tide Turner went from being amazing and threatening to mediocre and a joke, since it can no longer get those precious charge crits. And the Claid, bless its soul, lost its ever-so-valuable charge duration increase, and fell from stardom, into the realm of obsolete weapons. Not to mention how the dear Persian Persuader, one of the more fun and unique melees, went from… [Continue Reading]

A Distinct Lack of Comics and Love

I LOVE the TF2 comics. I really do. They, and by extension all the other non-game media we get for TF2, are all absolutely amazing, bringing a new dimension to what is otherwise just a cartoony first person shooter. Valve have said it themselves, comics and videos are a third way to actually give TF2 some sort of story, even if it is absolutely batshit crazy. But although I can understand delays in these things, sometimes there’s something… missing. Part of the reason why I’m writing this article is because Jay Dorris hasn’t finished his article. Jay Dorris is a… [Continue Reading]

We should nerf Soldier and Scout

No, this article isn’t about any personal bias of mine. As much as I truly loathe Scouts, I’m a Soldier main when I’m not playing Medic, so there’s no bias here. Well, maybe a little. But still. But if I’m truly honest, Medics could probably do with a little nerf as well. More on that later. Back when early competitive TF2 started, the community quickly worked out that having too many Demomen slowed down the game, so he was limited to one. Same as Heavy, Medic, and Engineer, but with way more power. Demoman was always a troublesome class, and… [Continue Reading]
