Pokemon GO, its Push for Paid and Ticketed Events and Why This Might Be A Problem

There have been so many events lately, that it’s actually hard to catch normal Pokemon spawns. But we’ve also been getting an increasing number of paid-for ticketed events. Originally, the only pay-to-play events were Go Fest and Safari Zone events, which happened at physical locations. Last year though, Regigigas was introduced through a special research. A special research that you had to buy. While Regigigas later came out in EX raids, this paid for event was originally the only way to obtain Regigigas. Since then, we’ve had a steady trickle of more and more events. Clearly the Regigigas event did… [Continue Reading]

Where did all my Houndours and Growlithes go?

I haven’t seen a Houndour in days. Normally, Houndour is a common spawn where I live. It’s sunny most of the time, so I get sunny boosted spawns. As well as Houndour, I normally also see lots of other Pokemon. Growlithe is normally very common, but I’d see plenty of Pokemon like Vulpix, Pansear, Numel and Diglett as well. Even in Partly Cloudy weather, I’d still see the odd Growlithe or Houndour, and Vulpix was always weirdly common. Roselia seemed to always spawn, and in high numbers too. Sadly though, I haven’t really seen any of these Pokemon in ages.… [Continue Reading]

Thoughts on the December Community Weekend of 2020

December Community Day events are always interesting. Unlike previous months, which featured one Pokemon, December ones feature the whole year’s lineup. In 2018, this was quite a treat, as the Pokemon in the 2018 community days were ALL incredibly good. 2019 was also pretty good, since the 2018 Pokemon were in raids and eggs, and, again, almost all the 2019 featured Pokemon were great. Aside from Slakoth. 2020 though is a different story. Most of 2020’s community days have been… weird. The Pokemon are almost ALL Kanto ones. The only exceptions are Piplup and Seedot. Everything else is completely Kanto,… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon You Should Definitely Give Second Moves To

Second Charge Moves have always been expensive in Pokemon Go. For a hefty chunk of stardust and a ton of candy, you can give your Pokemon a second Charge Move, opening up their available attacks and giving them more leeway. The problem is, aside from a handful of Pokemon, doing so costs a huge amount of stardust and don’t really offer much in return. Most of the time, second moves only really have a use in PvP, and are useless in PvE raids, Team Rocket fights and gyms. That being said, some Pokemon do really well with second moves. Or… [Continue Reading]

Why Wooper is the Best Thing Ever

I started this article a while back, when someone reminded me that the leaked beta versions of early Pokemon games existed. I fell in love with what turned out to be an early version of Wooper. Even had it as my profile pic for a bit because it’s so damn cute. In fact, I was going to write a long article about this adorable thing. But I ended up ditching the idea for a while, simply because I didn’t have much to actually say. I mean, sure, Beta Wooper is the best thing ever, and the Wooper we ended up… [Continue Reading]

Kalos Event? What Kalos Event?

There is supposedly a Kalos event in Pokemon GO right now. A celebratory event where Pokemon from the Kalos region are spawning. However, there’s barely any trace of any Kalos Pokemon. Very few Kalos Pokemon have been added. So they basically might as well not exist. In the mean time, the game’s expecting us to catch all these new Pokemon for timed research. Let me put it this way, I’ve seen two Froakie in the last 4 days, both of whom spawned late at night at far away Pokestops. And I need a Froakie to complete this dumb timed research.… [Continue Reading]

Level 50 is here in Pokemon Go but it is the GRINDIEST of Grinds!

On the last day of November, I opened up Pokemon GO and was SLAMMED with notifications. Tons of medals popped up out of nowhere! Most of them were either gold or platinum, for catching Pokemon and for doing various raids. I waited for a good couple of minutes for the medals to go away, then immediately spotted something else. The experience bar had popped up underneath my level 40 avatar. Levels 41-50 had arrived. And with them came a huge amount of grind. For level 41 alone, you need 6,000,000 experience. Pretty insane considering how you need 5,000,000 experience for… [Continue Reading]

Yet More Complaining About Mega Pokemon

I wasn’t going to complain any more about Mega Pokemon in Pokemon GO. It felt rather fruitless, especially since it’s so easily ignored. But, on a whim, I decided to Mega-Evolve a Gengar for a Lugia raid. My Gengar, with a CP of 3336, lasted all of 10 seconds. Lugia’s Dragon Tail kicked the shit out of it, then nuked Gengar with a Hydro Pump. I might as well have just used a Darkrai or a Giratina, both of which lasted far longer than my Mega Gengar did. This is despite me trying to dodge. Because dodging only seems to… [Continue Reading]

The Nidoran Limited Research Event

Normally I like these limited research events. Catch a bunch of Pokemon, do some tasks, maybe get a shiny. Normally you end up spending a ton of Pokeballs and resources but the shiny chances are often boosted. Not as much as community days, but still overall pretty good. That being said, we’ve had one per month for the last few months, and, well, I’m getting bored of them. Nidoran Limited Research is no different. Really, the only difference between the Nidoran Limited Research and those for Drifloon and Meowth is that there’s two Pokemon instead of one. Although, in all… [Continue Reading]

Go Away, Team Rocket Grunt

I’m normally always happy to fight a Team Rocket Grunt. They look so spiffy in their little matching black and red outfits, and their silly one-liners. None of them are particularly hard to beat either. Since they scale with your trainer level, they’re never going to be THAT hard unless you use Pokemon they are super effective against. In fact, when I started a secondary account, I specifically wanted to try Team Rocket fights. And most of them were pretty doable! The only boss I ever failed to beat was Sierra with the double Lapras lineup. This was because I… [Continue Reading]
