A Refreshing Look Back At Being a Pokemon GO Newbie

While playing around with an old phone I found (because my phone is dying), I kinda accidentally made a new Pokemon Go account. When it asked me to log in, I picked my other gmail account which I only really use as a backup. But since I was there, I thought “I might as well experience it again…” So I went ahead and made a new account. Because it’s been two years since I made my now level 40 account. Anyway, I entered a name, picked a look and chose my starter. I decided to go for Squirtle, simply because… [Continue Reading]

A Look at GO FEST Day 2 – ALL THE TEAM ROCKET BATTLES!

Hey, you know how I like Team Rocket battles? You know how much I like them? Well, I like them a lot. So Day 2 of GO Fest was practically made for me. Team GO Rocket has apparently taken over GO Fest and thrown confetti everywhere and it’s up to us to stop them! There were perhaps too many battles. Every single Pokestop had a Grunt on it, which would refresh every few minutes. And GO Fest players would get a Grunt in a balloon every 15 minutes as well. With a new balloon appearing not long after beating a… [Continue Reading]

A Look at GO FEST Day 1 – Your Mileage May Vary

I know GO Fest’s first day was yesterday, but I need time to write these articles. And I spent most of yesterday catching a fuckton of Pokemon. The day was split into various ‘biomes’, with different Pokemon spawning in each biome. This would change every hour, and was accompanied by some sort of global challenge. If players beat it, they’d be rewarded with some sort of bonus, like double stardust or double candy. We also had constant raids all day, with shortened timers, as well as a Welcome to Go Fest challenge which rewarded various Pokemon, including Blastoise, Venusaur, Charizard… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon Go Needs More Random Encounters

I absolutely loved the Team Go Rocket pre-Go Fest event. Sure, the event research sucked ass, but it was awesome having grunts to fight! It’s also cool being able to fight Giovanni and the Leaders, without scouring Pokestops with a radar. The nicest thing is that you can just sit at home on your own and have an encounter. Sure, most of the time, it’s a male grunt with an Omanyte, but it’s a nice little encounter. Something to spice up an otherwise empty world. Let’s face it, Pokemon Go’s map is bland! Up until we got the buddy update,… [Continue Reading]

Purified Pokemon Kinda Suck

With the recent Team Go Rocket event, I think it’s worth discussing purified Pokemon. Team Go Rocket have been capturing Pokemon and forcing them to become more powerful, turning them into shadowy forms of their previous selves. Apparently, this is actually quite painful. It’s so bad that Shadow Pokemon refuse to be traded and refuse to learn anything but Frustration. After all, I’d be pretty frustrated if I’d had my level forcibly raised, forced to fight some random kid and then abandoned. Purification on the other hand is how you save these tortured beings. You sprinkle them with stardust, candy… [Continue Reading]

Team Go Rocket Strikes Back with Hot Air Balloons

Remember a while back that I was lamenting about not being able to fight Team Rocket Grunts? Well, my problem has very suddenly been solved! Team Go Rocket have spent a lot of money investing in hot air balloons so they can attack us in person! Yep, you can now fight Team Go Rocket on the Fly! Kinda. It seems that, about four times a day, a Team Go Rocket balloon will hover across your screen and float around for a bit, allowing you to challenge a grunt to a fight. The Team Rocket balloon, similar to the one used… [Continue Reading]

The Throwback Challenge Champion Research 2020 Sucks

A while back, I praised the various regional Throwback challenges in Pokemon Go. They consisted of simple tasks. Each one rewarded Pokemon from that region. And we got a cool legendary at the end with an exclusive move. If you completed all of the regional throwback challenges, then you were rewarded with the Throwback Challenge Champion research. Frankly? The research is a massive let down, compared to the regional tasks. A Lot of Work for Little Reward Almost all the tasks in the Champion Research were somewhat draining. Almost everything in the research needed doing lots of times. Feed your… [Continue Reading]

Weedle Community Day – Stardust Heaven

Weedle is the Pokemon that won last month’s Twitter vote, beating out the likes of Squirtle and Gastly. Mainly because we didn’t have a shiny Weedle yet, and people wanted something that hadn’t been in events. After all, we’d just had a bunch of Kanto events, not to mention party hat Gengar with two exclusive moves. Weedle’s shiny line is pretty cool, and it’s nice to get a Pokemon that didn’t have a shiny in the past. So, on June 20th, we got Weedle Community Day People weren’t THAT excited for Weedle Community Day. After all, it’s Weedle. It’s one… [Continue Reading]

What Would Mega Evolutions Entail for Pokemon Go?

In the recent Pokemon Presents video, Pokemon Go was given a small section. In it, we are informed that Go Fest, a normally local event in various cities, would be made completely digital. A new legendary Pokemon, Victini, was also teased to be released in Pokemon Go. But more importantly, we were treated to a brief trailer which very clearly suggested that we are getting Mega Evolutions. In 2020, apparently. The Pokemon Go section ends with viewers being told that Mega Evolutions will be added based on Pokemon Go’s unique gameplay. But what does this mean for Pokemon Go? Well,… [Continue Reading]

The Weird Thing I Miss in Pokemon Go – Team Rocket Grunt Battles

It’s funny what I find myself missing. Due to, well, the world collapsing and a lot of people staying indoors, Pokemon Go has been a bit of a weird thing. But even with the world being what it is, I recently moved house. Because of that, I no longer have stupidly easy access to Pokestops. Sure, I managed to get a Pokestop at the end of my road, but the density of Pokestops just isn’t there. And because of this, I can’t do the thing I weirdly enjoy most in Pokemon Go. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because the… [Continue Reading]
