Why Do We Even Care About Shiny Pokemon?

A while back, Articuno appeared in raids, with a potential to be shiny. Brother really wanted a shiny Articuno to complete his collection, and I wanted one too. Between us, with four accounts, we probably had about 50 chances to get a shiny Articuno. Out of all the raids we did, the only person to get a shiny Articuno was my little level 28 account, which only just has the right counters to fight Articuno in the first place. We weren’t alone. During the Tuesday raid hour, we were in a group of 15 accounts and we did 5 raids.… [Continue Reading]

Alolan Meowth Community Research Day?

On the 10th of October, there was a community research day that I very nearly forgot about. This event involved doing research tasks. Lots and lots of them. And the reward? Alolan Meowth. With a potential to be shiny. A simple event, easy to do and with an okay chance at a normally rare shiny. Simple, but repetitive. The event went as follows: Do research, get Meowth. The research tasks are a set order, which repeat once. There’s about… 20 tasks which repeat… so 40 tasks total? A lot of them are the same and all of them include “catch… [Continue Reading]

1000 Team Rocket Fights Later…

In July of 2019, Team GO Rocket appeared in Pokemon Go, attacking Pokestops and stealing items. While Team GO Rocket hasn’t had much effect on daily gameplay, it’s always been a thing. There’s even a multitude of medals to get, all related to Team GO Rocket. The problem is that, because they’re basically a side task, you can safely ignore Team Go Rocket and their myriad of grunts. Me though? I wanted to get the gold medal for defeating grunts. On September 15th 2020, I finally got that gold medal. 1000 grunts defeated. Seems like a long time I mean,… [Continue Reading]

Porygon Community Day – Eh

Porygon was the winner of the community day vote back in August, a vote that was done on Twitter. Considering the other options in the vote, it’s no wonder Porygon won. Charmander has featured in multiple events and already had a community day. Grimer already has two shiny forms and, worse, the Alolan one would be restricted to raids only. And Caterpie is, well, Caterpie. But even then, Porygon community day has been… meh. “Why did Porygon even win?” That’s a good question. Porygn isn’t an amazing Pokemon. But, compared to the other options, it kinda is. Porygon didn’t have… [Continue Reading]

The Best (Upcoming) Mega Evolutions in Pokemon GO

Mega evolutions have finally (to an extremely limited degree) come out! While people aren’t super happy with the execution right now, I’m confident they’ll become more practical and available over time. That’s Niantic’s tried-and-true strategy; bait the whales by releasing new content with incredibly low odds and high barriers to acquisition, then make it more common once they’ve made all their early money and nobody cares anymore. So this article is looking to the future; now that we know how Mega Evolutions work, which ones are worth looking out for when they inevitably enter the game? Here’s my shortlist: 1.… [Continue Reading]

Turning A Wasteland into an Oasis in Pokemon Go

In March of 2020, I moved away from the city center towards the outskirts of the city. I use the term city quite loosely here, because where I live is still quite small and rural. But either way, Pokemon Go was not much of an option. From where my new apartment was, I could see one gym and four Pokestops (and one more just on the horizon). All of which were a ten minute walk away, but doable. The fact that we had a gym at all was incredibly impressive. But for a slightly-more-than-casual player, those Pokestops just weren’t enough.… [Continue Reading]

Mega Pokemon have arrived in Pokemon GO and they’re basically inaccessible!

Yay! Mega Evolutions have arrived! For Beedrill and the three Kanto Starters! Amazing! And three of them require huge amounts of raids to obtain! Woo! If you can’t tell already, I’m being somewhat sarcastic. While I had sat on my ass and hoped that maybe the data miners were wrong, well, they weren’t. Mega Evolutions aren’t some cool thing to unlock with your best buddy. It’s a grind that involves doing lots of raids. Raid, raid, raid. So, to get your Mega Evolution of choice, you need to do Mega Evolution Raids for the Pokemon you want to Mega Evolve.… [Continue Reading]

Wait, a Brief Period Without Event Spawns?

The three Ultra Weeks have just finished in Pokemon Go. Aside from some small make-up mini-events, we have no event right now. The calm before the next storm. But this is actually… kinda weird. We’ve had events for so long that we haven’t really had any time with no weird events going on. There’s no special eggs, no special raids, nothing. It’s… kinda peaceful. We get to see more Pokemon, kinda. When you have an event, spawns are pretty limited. You see whatever is in the event and not much else. The Enigma Event had tons of Staryu spawning, as… [Continue Reading]

Unova Week Was Even More Naff

I feel like I owe Enigma Week an apology. It was a rather weak event that lasted a whole week. But even Enigma Week had some good stuff in it. Unova Week is just all round bad. What is actually new? There’s four new Pokemon and two new shinies. The shinies are Genesect, a Mythical Pokemon, and Roggenrola, an uncommon Pokemon that is only ever vaguely abundant in partly cloudy weather. Both are good shinies, but the event spawn rates of Roggenrola are mediocre, and Genesect is a Mythical, so if you don’t get one this week, you’re screwed. The… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Thoughts on Remote Raid Invites in Pokemon Go

You know what’s weird? Despite the ability to remotely invite people to raids being out for a while… I received my first raid invite only yesterday. Most of the time, it’s me who’s at the raid location, trying to invite other people. So, finally, I actually got to see what a remote raid via an invite felt like. It’s… good and bad. I’ll discuss both. The Good The best thing by far is that you can do raids nearly anywhere. As long as someone is at the raid, they can invite up to 5 other people. I’ve been invited to… [Continue Reading]
