Mod Showcase: Dodgeball

Hello. I’m Brickinator and this is another instalment of Mod Showcase; the column that watches back. This time we’ll be taking a peak at Dodgeball, a mod gamemode that combines the ancient arts of dodging things and not dying. In Dodgeball,  everyone plays as the Pyro. The two teams spawn on opposite sides of a floating court and can only use Flamethrowers. You can’t pass onto the enemy side and if you fall off the edge of the court you scream and disappear into a gaping hole, just like your mum last night. I have a very patchy memory of my… [Continue Reading]

Sniping for those who hate scopes…

I never told anyone this, but I have a phobia. Vlepsophobia. The fear of scopes. Actually, that’s a lie, although the word I used is theoretically correct. But ever since I started playing First Person Shooters, staring with Left 4 Dead at 5 frames per second, moving onto Garry’s Mod and settling down in Team Fortress 2, I have always been troubled by using the scopes provided on certain weapons. It’s the tunnel vision, I think, that puts me off. Anyway, today, we’re discussing what to do if you want to snipe but hate peering down a scope.

Backscratching

If I can recall, the Backscratcher was one of the first strange weapons to ever grace my backpack.  Given that I find strange weapons encourage me to use stuff I would normally not care about, I gave the ‘scratcher a chance.  From then on it has stayed in the slot, and has grown to be one of my favorites. For those whom are unaware, the Backscratcher grants extra healing from collecting health packs.  However, other healing sources, such a medics dispensers, and bomb carts, heal you at a snail’s pace.  The rake also has a slight increase in damage. The… [Continue Reading]

Some Weapons with Surprising Synergy

Ever since Valve released the Axtinguisher, weapon combos have become a huge part of Team Fortress 2. From the Sandman/Cleaver to the Jarate/Bushwacka, Valve has released a number of weapons obviously designed to go together, and for that reason they do so very well. But sometimes there are weapons whose synergies are not so obvious, who were clearly built for widely different roles, and yet somehow they can combine to create a lethal combo to the keen player who can see untapped potential. Here are a few I’ve discovered throughout the years. 1. Beggars Bazooka / Righteous Bison The Beggar’s… [Continue Reading]

5 things you may not know about stock weapons

The weapons that have been in the game since it came out in 2007. The oldest things in your backpack. Every player in the game has used them. Could there really be something you don’t know about them at this point? Maybe. Here are some things I didn’t know about several greytext weapons for a surprisingly long time. 1-Sticky Launcher nuances: Holding down right-click lets you charge up a sticky and shoot it really far. You already knew that? Shucks. How about that destroyed (not detonated) stickies leave 1 ammo you can pick up (or extinguish yourself, in the case… [Continue Reading]

Shooting the scorched earth

Scorched earth is a tactic used by militaries where the main goal is to destroy everything useful for the enemy while retreating or advancing (destroying their manufactories, farms, oil fields and stuff like that). If you have participated in kindergarten gang wars, you will spot the similarity with the real thing – if you managed to win a small tackle-fight against your little enemies in their own lair built of wooden bricks, chairs and clothing – you totally wrecked their camp afterwards, victoriously, so they would have to build everything from scratch. You were also a terrible person, but whatever. Scorched… [Continue Reading]

Regarding the Homewrecker

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, lend me your hats! I am about to share with you the best Pyro melee weapon in existence! Is it the Axetinguisher? The Powerjack? Perhaps the Back Scratcher? Nope. It is none other than the Homewrecker. “WHAT!” You may exclaim, “The Homewrecker is the most broken Pyro unlock in history. It’s a pain to Spies, and completely worthless otherwise.” Yep. And that’s why it’s a perfect side grade.
