Waiiiiiit, Scream Fortress XI Happened?

Scream Fortress came a bit early this year, with very little going on with it. I didn’t make an article about it because there honestly was very little to write about, but what I DID do was make a fake update page for Scream Fortress XI (ELEVEN for those who can’t read Roman Numerals) because guess what, there wasn’t one this year. Then again, there hasn’t been a Scream Fortress update page since Scream Fortress 7, which means I’ve made a fake update page for the last 4 years. The result is a strange mess of scribbles which gets worse… [Continue Reading]

Maybe It’s Pyro Who Doesn’t Fit in Team Fortress 2, Not Just Sniper?

In all the years I played Team Fortress 2, there was always this long-standing belief that Sniper didn’t fit inside Team Fortress 2. As a character, he fits absolutely perfectly with a team of mercenaries and mad men, murdering because they are good at it and it pays well. But people have a strong dislike of Sniper because Sniper is often considered ill-fitting in terms of gameplay. After all, Sniper is a long ranged class in a game where most people have weapons with damage falloff over distance, running around with shotguns, pistols and mostly short range explosive weapons. Before… [Continue Reading]

Remembering the Sticky Jumper

Happy Jump Day! While SPUF itself may be long gone, the Sticky Jumper-themed holiday it birthed has survived six years, almost into the 2020s. Never forget the day they nerfed our Sticky Jumper! Out of all the cruel, heartless, and unneeded nerfs that Valve have levied on unsuspecting weapons in Team Fortress 2‘s long and checkered past, the Sticky Jumper nerf remains one of the harshest. Valve took one of the funnest and most unique weapons (it’s the only Demoman secondary that isn’t an explosive or a shield, creating an entirely new “scout with a grenade launcher” playstyle) and…um…well, to… [Continue Reading]

Did Team Fortress 2 Ruin Gaming Forever?

If there are three things that Team Fortress 2 is famous for, it’s the unique art style with cartoony and memorable characters, how utterly insane the game is and, well, hats. There’s a reason why TF2 is referred to as a “war-themed hat simulator” with just how many cosmetics are available. But there is one more thing that TF2 is famous for: Crates. Mann Co. Supply Crates that require Mann Co. Keys to open, for sale in the Mann Co. Shop for about $2 each. Did the inclusion of Crates and Keys in 2010 doom the gaming industry forever, flooding… [Continue Reading]

Still, Still Waiting For That Final Issue

I’ve always loved the Team Fortress comics. While they are batshit insane and to a ton of stupid things that kinda mess with how the rest of Team Fortress 2 works and basically exist in a parallel universe compared to what you see in the games, there’s something about the comics that makes me spend ages sitting down and re-reading them. Even when I was only looking for a particular panel in one comic, I found myself reading through all 6 parts of the 7 part series. Which reminds me. It’s been over two and a half years since issue… [Continue Reading]

The TF2 Unusual Apyrocalypse

So there’s a thing in TF2 where you basically had a 100% chance at getting an unusual from a certain number of crates. Specifically specific crates. As in, you open a bunch of crates and you are guaranteed an unusual. Of course as soon as word got out that you could get guaranteed unusuals, everyone started buying the specific crates and opening them and getting a ton of unusuals. And of course, this all had a ton of repercussions. The first was that the market for Unusual Hats dropped like a brick. Normally, unusual hats were anywhere from about €30… [Continue Reading]

Team Fortress 2 Monopoly: Board Game Review

A non-gaming friend got me TF2 Monopoly for my birthday last year, and it’s been sitting on my shelf ever since. I’ve been meaning to review it for a while now, but my heart wasn’t really in it because I pretty much just expected a cash grab where they renamed the properties after maps and added some custom playing pieces. Plus I unfortunately don’t live in a situation where I can convince my friends to play board games with me unless I can lure them in with promises of getting to shoot or stab each other. However, I’m glad Retro… [Continue Reading]

My Favorite TF2 Community Remixes

TF2 has one of the oldest and proudest fan communities in gaming history. Part of it stems from the radical new approach Valve took when designing the playable classes; never before had a shooter made every class into a fully three-dimensional character with personalities, backstories, and Pixar-level visual design. The brilliant writing and voice acting was the cherry on top that propelled our nine favorite mercenaries into top-ten lists throughout the internet upon release. Valve was richly rewarded with a thriving community of artists, animators, and other creatives who showed their love for the TF2 characters through peripheral content that… [Continue Reading]

The Way it Was: A Week of Looking Back

Hi everyone! aabicus here, and you may have noticed these days that I’ve been pretty much invisible on the SPUF side of things. My last article was in February (still haven’t caught a shiny Rattata…) and the SPUF of Legend‘s last video was 3 months ago. (That should change soon, though! Got another one in the final editing phase.) My main excuse, unfortunately, is money. In a nutshell, after graduating college I co-founded a gaming studio but got written out of the contract at the last minute. Without a backup lined up, I had to leave my apartment for financial… [Continue Reading]

Goofing Around in Video Games

With the amount of competitive engagements in both PvP and PvE games out there, it can sometimes get a little tiresome always trying to reach out to be the best of the best. So why not take a break from that and try to do fun stuff for once? Sure, doing fun stuff might not be the most efficient thing available – or can even be borderline griefing if not done in the right way – but it ensures a fun time for (hopefully) everyone involved. Be it T-Posing on hoverboards with your squad in Fortnite, trying out new mods… [Continue Reading]
