Playing Left 4 Dead 2 with Stupid Mods

In my siblings’ quest to find something we all want to play, I suggested Left 4 Dead 2. We’d been suggesting it for ages, but never got around to it because sister’s computer ‘wasn’t letting her’ or something like that. But on the weekend, she clicked L4D2 and it loaded no problem. Brother squealed with joy, and I silently lamented the fact that we were all going to die repeatedly. Of course, I’d also forgotten that I’d also installed a fuckton of dumb mods. Okay, not a fuckton. One of the mods I had was genuinely useful. It, like many… [Continue Reading]

Medical Necessity Dev Diary #4

Another Saturday, another update for Medical Necessity! And we have a lot to talk about this week! First things first, I’m excited to introduce Matt and Steven, our new audio designers! Hailing from San Francisco State University, they’ll be working with Pat for the next few weeks to design the different sound effects, music, and ambiance for our game. We’ve added a lot of different changes, all of which are visible in this GIF, so let’s break them down part by part! Artwise, the player character’s healthbar has changed back to the original, dynamically-colored green circle in order to visually… [Continue Reading]

Battlefield 1 – Turning Tides Review

Hi, this is aabicus with the SPUF of Legend! Battlefield 1 came out with the second half of the Turning Tides DLC earlier this month, and I’m loving every single part of it. Now I need to mention a few qualifiers just to be fair: I didn’t try out any of the new guns because they take a lot of time to unlock and I’m playing on a friend’s account (speaking of which, special thanks to Yessirreebirb for letting me use his account again), where was I oh yeah he’s saving up his warbonds for something else so I mostly… [Continue Reading]

The Sneak Thief of Warframe

Anyone who’s played Skyrim knows that the cheesiest way to play is to be a Stealth Archer. You maximize your Stealth and Archery skills and pick off enemies one at a time, with the dumb AI never really working out what’s going on. It’s a slow process, inching along and clearing everything out one by one. That sort of playstyle doesn’t work in Warframe though, does it? Well, kinda. Ivara is probably the closest thing to a typical Skyrim stealth character, and is by far the stealthiest Warframe in the game. While fellow stealth users Loki, Ash and Octavia can… [Continue Reading]

On Trials and Giving Veteran Warframe Players Something To Do

The other day I wrote an article talking about how Trials in Warframe sucked, but they shouldn’t be removed. The thing is, I didn’t really explain in detail why the two Trials, the Law of Retribution and the Jordas Verdict, both sucked. And at the same time, I didn’t really explain why people do them, despite their suckiness. There are two problems here: the tedium involved in Trials, and the lack of things for veteran players to do. Trials, these days, are one of the small number of things veterans can do on a regular basis. There’s Trials, Sorties, Eidolon… [Continue Reading]

Tea Talk: Experimental Games

I saw this game called An Aspie Life on Steam, which is stated to be “an experimental adventure game that deals with the topic of Asperger’s Syndrome”. Naturally, I want to try it. It’s an extremely unusual pitch and it’s for a rather good cause, since it raises awareness for Asperger’s and let people understand it more. And I got stuck about five minutes in. I have no idea what I did wrong. Since it is in Early Access, I would normally assume that it’s a bug, or just a mistake by the creator. However, the line “as every element… [Continue Reading]

Mods to To Go Alongside Burning Skies

So, you’ve found a way to be a dragon in Skyrim, potentially by reading yesterday’s article. Now you want to enhance the experience a bit. You want a couple of mods to tie everything together and really make Skyrim a place to fear your dragony self. Here’s a bunch of mods that will help you with that. Open Cities Skyrim This mod, I love it so much. There’s nothing cooler than riding your horse into the middle of Solitude/Windhelm and killing all those Imperial/Stormcloak scum, then riding off into the sunset. Alternatively, with whatever mod you’re using to be (or… [Continue Reading]

Not At All Dragon-y in any Way

Chroma is not a dragon. He’s a weird, ugly thing that wears the skin of a ‘dragon’ made out of the same stuff Sentients are made out of. He’s a dragon only in the loosest sense of the word. Chroma is a weird, ugly mess of a Warframe and I don’t understand him. Of course, what I don’t understand, I don’t like. Looks-wise, Chroma is horrible. He’s lumpy and ugly. He doesn’t have wings. He has lumps on his back where wings are supposed to go. He has a fat spade of a tail. He looks wrinkly and horrible. Luckily,… [Continue Reading]

Medical Necessity Dev Diary #3

Happy Saturday everybody! This week started off with a bang when we got to playtest our game with a group of high schoolers from a local college. It was our first mass playtest, and we were super excited when they loved it! So far people enjoy the exhilaration of strafing gunfire while trying to decide who to heal to survive the level, simultaneously putting to rest a debate we’d been having in the sidelines. My original design document planned for the bullets in the game to be hitscan; invisible straight lines drawn from the shooter that instantly hit the first… [Continue Reading]

A ‘Temporary’ End to Warframe Trials

Trials in Warframe are shit. Yeah, you can take up to 8 players into a trial, but the two trials on offer, the Law of Retribution and the Jordas Verdict, are both tedious lumps of puzzles tied together with awkward, confusing gameplay and bugs. They are awkward and glitchy and hard to get into and almost impossible to do with randoms. You can’t learn a Trial by just playing them, you can’t just jump in and play. It’s basically a guessing game as to what’s going on, and Trials are heavily tied to a strict meta unless you are super… [Continue Reading]
