Smissmas 2016 is here

Smissmas 2016 is here and its a tiny, weeny update! Seriously, very tiny. Like, it’s the sort of update you’d get in March 2013 to make everyone shut up for a bit until the big Summer update. Not even that, actually. Firstly, there’s the standard Festive Crate. It’s got a bunch of Smissmas items, 17 in total, that will look amazing in July. The special crates need a special key to open, available for the normal price in the Mann Co. Store. Nope, you just buy the crates from the store. No keys, no drops, nada. Opening the crate will… [Continue Reading]

An Unexpected Return from the Dead

At about 2am on the 19th of December 2016, something woke up. An old, angry, tired beast who hadn’t been working ever since the 12th of August of that year. This beast was pronounced dead on August 28th, and, after a brief mourning period, was forgotten by everyone but me. I’d regularly go to the beast’s final resting place, hoping that maybe it would wake up or something, but eventually, even I gave up. I’m talking about the old website for the Daily SPUF, blog.spuf.info. Sometime back in August, when I attempted to create a backup for the website, something… [Continue Reading]

Overwatch and Payday Christmas Events are Live!

Today was a big day for gaming announcements! The 4th Annual Payday Christmas event was announced yesterday, and it involves the return of everybody’s favorite Escort NPC, Vlad’s drunkard step-brother who screws up another mission and requires the Payday gang to rescue him! In addition to the new heist, we got a new pulse-pounding song from studio musician OVERKILL_Bubba and two masks inspired by the Paycheck gang, a reddit in-joke making fun of the many, many bootleg clown masks from cheap third-party websites and dime stores. But wait…who’s that mysterious man looking away from the camera? We didn’t have to… [Continue Reading]

Killing Floor 2 and Pokemon Sun & Moon are released!

After over a year in Early Access, Tripwire did what most Early Access games never accomplish and have released the game on November 18th mostly feature-complete. As I mention in this video, they finally earned my approval back through the high quality of their content and a faster release schedule than we had to endure for the first 8 months. Now the game is a genuinely-fun shoot-em-up with a wide arsenal of gorgeously-animated firearms. The new Survivalist perk is live and while most of the popular builds seem to be some sort of combat medic, I’ve still really enjoyed getting… [Continue Reading]

Sombra Announced For Overwatch!

Blizzcon began yesterday, and as always, the opening ceremony announced what’s coming soon for all major Blizzard franchises. Overwatch will be getting their 2nd post-release hero, the elusive hacker Sombra, in the Public Test Realm on Tuesday November 8th (Election day!) Everyone following the painfully-executed months-long ARG knew this was coming, but it’s hard not to get excited when we have a new cinematic short and a complete breakdown on Sombra’s in-game abilities! According to her character profile on the official site, Sombra is an offense hero who wields a machine pistol and a lot of support-style abilities. She can turn… [Continue Reading]

Scream Fortress VIII is here!

Yep, number 8. Scream Fortress fucking 8. It’s here. What’s in it? Maps, cosmetics, unusual effects, the usual stuff. All community stuff mostly. Also, Maple Ridge Event. I haven’t played that map since my 4v4 days. Holy fuck. Really, all this year is is an extension of the Merasmissions from last year. There’s new missions for the new maps, and a new key and crate, and cosmetics. I’ll be updating this a bit at a time. Anyway, I’m just posting the information here for here’s sake. I made a SPUF thread as well but you don’t care. Oddly, there’s no… [Continue Reading]

Upcoming Overwatch and Payday Halloween events!

Today was a big day for gaming announcements! Over on the Payday subreddit, players were able to discover leaks suggesting that new weapons, DLCs, heisters, maps, and difficulties were coming to Payday 2. Yes, that’s right, new difficulties. ‘Mayhem’ will be between Overkill and Deathwish, and ‘One Down’ is going to be the new hardest difficulty in the game.  While its name suggests that players will only be allotted one incapacitation before going into custody, we don’t know much more than that. Hopefully it comes with some balance tweaks beyond just that. And today the official announcement finally went live: Safehouse… [Continue Reading]

Happy Late Birthday, Team Fortress!

I know I’m late with this, and Team Fortress’s birthday was the 24th of August, but Valve is late with everything so hopefully they forgive me. Anyway, let me get all the fireworks and confetti out of the way… Anyway, back to the actual event itself. Twenty years is a pretty damn long time. Older than my sister, in fact. Yes, Team Fortress is older than my little sister. That… is a worrying thought. It’s a very impressive thing though, that a class-based first person shooter series of games is still around. Despite the fact that the little, Short-Circuit-killable bouncing… [Continue Reading]

The Daily SPUF is back!

Hi everyone and welcome back to the Daily SPUF! After a bumpy week or so, the Daily SPUF is working again! Mostly. I still haven’t worked out how to get featured images working again, but they’re not really needed. Pretty much every picture was saved apart from those uploaded in the last week before blog.spuf.info died, and I’ve managed to save a few of those too. But let’s not worry about a few pictures, let’s bask in the glory of this new theme, and the new shiny stuff and the actual logo and things like that! As you can probably… [Continue Reading]
