The Dominationing

There’s been a couple of posts on SPUF recently about Dominations and I think now is a good time to make a post about them, both as a recently dominated Medic and a Medic who got a bunch of dominations, but also as an average TF2 player and someone who sees other people getting dominated or dominating. Let’s start with a recap on how dominations work. Simply put, you get 4 kills or assists on someone without them killing or assisting in killing you, you dominate them. A notification appears on the scoreboard, showing that you have a domination and/or… [Continue Reading]

Why the New Loch and Load is Pure Evil

The Loch ‘n’ Load. SPUF has always had a love-hate relationship with this weapon. It was loved for being able to kill sentries and how it was less spammy than its default brother, but at the same time hated because it could kill light classes with a single shot, while still being somewhat worse than stock in most situations. This weapon was changed in the Demoman update of Smissmas 2014, where the Loch ‘n’ Load was changed and has remained this way ever since. The Loch ‘n’ Load was a weapon which traded half of the stock grenade launcher’s four barrel clip size and rollers in… [Continue Reading]

5 Ways to Deal Damage with the Jumpers

What’s the first stat of the Rocket/Sticky Jumper that pops into your head? Probably -100% damage. But it turns out that these weapons have actually had a number of ways to bypass the restriction and deal the damage in weird ways. Some are fixed, some are not, all are here for your reading pleasure. 1. The Rocket Jumper could once hurt enemy Pyros: Who airblasted the rockets. This is probably the most famous one on this list. Supposedly this was fixed at some point, but it was never mentioned in any update patch notes so I didn’t notice when. 2.… [Continue Reading]

The Spy Who Loved Me

The Spy has been, and always will be, my favorite class in any video game (or other game, for that matter) that has classes. Paladins of D&D, Snipers of Battlefield come close, but ultimately, they are nothing compared to our resident globe-trotting lady killer. Everything about the Spy appeals to me on every level: his sneaky, underhanded playstyle, his awesome voice lines, and his weapons. Good lord, his weapons. The way the Spy functions is so interesting, so quirky, and so unique, that it brings a whole new level of intrigue to the most intriguing mercenary around. The closest analogue… [Continue Reading]

Being the I in Team

One of my favorite series on YouTube is Titsonabullsteam’s Realism Expert Solo runs for Left 4 Dead 2, where he beats every campaign in the game without bots, allies, or exploits. Recently I’ve been communicating with him because I’ve gotten into L4D2 modding and wanted to help him finish the last video in the series. After watching his entire run again and reliving the amazement I felt the first time I saw it back in college, I was inspired to look into other YouTube series where enterprising players solo Valve co-op titles on the hardest difficulties. As it turns out, there are two… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Third Ever Competitive Match – Communication and Experience, I have none.

So Friday the 20th. My third ever official match. This was by far our hardest match, because the enemy team had SO MUCH experience. They’ve been playing 6v6 and 4v4 together for a loooong time. Season 12 or something like that. We knew from the start that we had little chance of winning, but that didn’t stop us from trying our best. So I don’t bore you, I’m not going to do a commentary of the whole match. It was quite long and involved us dying a lot. You don’t really want to hear how I died 16 times, 4 times… [Continue Reading]

Why I love the Engineer

Let’s face it, no one likes the Engie. Not even people who play Engie like him, only playing because they have to. But Engie’s been my favourite class since the beginning of my TF2 career. Here’s why: 1. Buildings Engineer’s buildings seperate him from the rest of the crowd, with his Sentry Gun providing area denial, his Dispenser providing health, ammo and (to some extent), cover and his Teleporters for faster troop deployment. Though people think that Engineers should be removed because of their “grind-the-game-to-a-halt” playstyle thanks to their Sentries, many don’t realize that the lack of a Dispenser or… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Second Ever 4v4 Match – The struggles of coordination

So, I just finished my second ever 4v4 match and, unlike last time, it was horrible. Confusion unfortunately disappeared 10 minutes before the game, leaving me to arrange anything. Yes, get the person who’s never played competitive to organise everything. At the same time, the serveme.tf server we had was glitching out and refusing to load configs and constantly disconnecting. But the actual story starts earlier in the week. You see, we planned to do some scrims, practice matches. But every match we scheduled was cancelled. We were supposed to scrim before the match, but the other team cancelled. Morale… [Continue Reading]

Why I love the Pyro

Pyro is the class that I really should hate. Its combat potential is limited, it is by design the most annoying class in the game, and its flames straight-up halve my framerate. It’s almost universally despised by those at the upper tiers of competitive 6v6, my favourite TF2 gamemode. It’s a hodgepodge of ‘broken’ mechanics. And yet I’m saying it, right now: I love the Pyro class. Pyro has such a variety of useful unlocks that change your playstyle, whether you’re running degreaser/flare gun and critting everything that moves, degreaser/shotgun and having a useful close-mid range damage presence, or even… [Continue Reading]

Why I like the Heavy

Now people might see me as crazy because liking Heavy is kinda hipster and cool in a way. Here are some reasons why I like the Heavy: 1. One of the best cap point defenders Now some facts about the Heavy: He is tanky. Big time. With his normal healthpool of 300 and a whopping 450 hp when overhealed, Heavy becomes very good at absorbing damage. He has loads of hitscan bullets that hurt especially if too close to the barrel of death of the Minigun. With the potential 500 DPS Heavy is one of if not the best damage… [Continue Reading]
