The Perils of Writing Articles

I write a lot of articles for the Daily SPUF, that’s obvious, what with being the editor writing things person, but few realize how many things can go wrong with the simple running of a blog. First problem is with starting the article. What do I write about? How should I write it? Should I be all snark-y and bite-y or should I be calm and patient? Of course, the topic is generally the hardest bit. Team Fortress 2 has a huge amount of topics for us to discuss, but not all of them can be worked into 500 words… [Continue Reading]

Advice for Playing Greg

In honor of the newest comic revealing the name of the TFC Demoman, I thought I’d take this opportunity to write a guide on how to play him if you ever feel the need to give TFC a try and just embrace the grenades. Greg has so many explosive toys to play with I doubt you’ll even get a chance to try them all out in your first life before your uterus is wrapped around a tree at least ten yards away from your death’s epicenter. Just like in TF2, I main Medic and offclass Demoman,  so I’m significantly less… [Continue Reading]

Junction, Junction, Junction

A long time ago, back when I proudly wore my Mercenary badge, my favourite map wasn’t Dustbowl or 2fort or any of the normal stereotypical noob-friendly maps. Nope, I was a fan of Junction. At the same time, I was also not a Medic main. I know, shocking, especially since my name is Medic now. I’m not quite sure what appealed to me when it comes to Junction, because I look back at it now and I sigh and roll my eyes. Maybe it’s because I got my Gibus on Junction, dominating a Heavy as a, um, Medic. Or maybe… [Continue Reading]

Why you should buy a Strange Filter

So I just added some money to my Steam wallet. And, like every Hat Fortress player, I couldn’t resist buying a key or two to uncrate some of these new crates that just came out. I also bought a game, and a few other things from the Steam Market to calm my natural item addiction. A few minutes later (that’s how long it takes  me to chew through ten Euros) I had a bit over a Euro left, enough for a Nametag or some other Tool Item That I Would Regret Buying. Somehow, I stumbled upon the “Maps” section of… [Continue Reading]

Second. Worst. Spy. Ever.

Unlike most people who write articles here, I’m very much a one trick pony. I play Medic well, I play Soldier at a mediocre level and that’s pretty much it. Occasionally, I’ll grab a flamethrower or maybe a gunslinger if I’m feeling depressed. So when I’m forced to play a non-Medic, non-Soldier class, I flail like a lunatic. And after Sniper, who I have gone on about way too often, I flail most as Spy. But why? First off, a hint of honesty. I’m normally good at being stealthy and stuff. I sneak my way though Portal, avoiding turrets like… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Stop that Tank!

Welcome back to Mod Showcase. Brickinator here to talk about Stop that Tank!, a mod gamemode that combines Mann versus Machine, Payload and annoying punctuation in mod titles that ruins the syntax. Like all hybrids that don’t turn out to be creepy mutated squid people, Stop that Tank! takes the best parts of the gamemodes it seeks to emulate. In this case, the Mann versus Machine tank and the Payload maps’ long, winding tracks. The mod is still being worked on and it’s garnered a lot of popularity, but the fact that only two servers run it means that it’s… [Continue Reading]

A hop, a skip, and a (normal) jump away

I’ve always had a curious affinity for the tops of resupply cabinets. Whether it’s during my weekly quasi-idle sessions in Offline Training, or at the tail end of some test or other conducted to investigate weapon properties, I find myself gravitating toward the nearest one, hauling myself onto it, and engaging in highly meaningful activities along the lines of “see how many times you can shoot the cabinet before the old bullet holes disappear” or “make smiley face patterns with melee hits :)”. But, like many illustrious scientists in history — to whom I am entirely comparable — I’ve encountered… [Continue Reading]

Mad Metal

Welcome to today’s episode of Mad Metal! As always, I’m your host aabicus. Other blog posts are trying to be your friend, but THIS one only wants to save you metal. First on the agenda: botkillers. Yes, those chrome-packing strange reskins make another appearance on this program, as well as all over the place on the battlefield. I’m sure you’ve seen ’em as much as I have, dear viewers; every loadout from the Adam Smiths to the Ned Ludds have gold, diamond, and blood robo-heads waving around everywhere like the Dow Jones on a Friday night. MvM-farming and their… [Continue Reading]
