Rest in Peace, Hello! thread

On September 29th 2014, the Hello! thread, originally created in the Team Fortress Classic forum, was brutally murdered, after a traumatic last two days. What’s the Hello! thread, you ask? Well, it started off as a joke when TF2 Comics #3: A Cold Day in Hell, was released. Being called the Medic, I realised that I had indeed betrayed my mercenaries and took shelter in the Team Fortress Classic forum. This silly thread slowly turned into first a TF2 discussion thread and then into an itsurblog thread. But the Hello! thread was a nice thread. The pace was slow. The… [Continue Reading]

How to write for The Daily SPUF

In most cases I start my articles with an anecdote. Anecdotes are little stories from one’s past experience that they share to reinforce the main point of an article. For instance, if I were writing about heartbreak and food, I’d share the story of the time I was burned by a PopTart. Hot Fudge Sundae variety, if I remember right. This time I’d like to start by saying thank you to a very special person. You know her as Medic, the Almighty Editor of The Daily SPUF. She’s written just over 150 articles for this blog in her time. Lately she’s… [Continue Reading]

A couple of things that TF2 really needs and still doesn’t have.

This is an old game. Valve have been working on TF2 for bloody years, and they’ve done a pretty good job, even if a lot of their choices make no sense. We whinge and complain about weapons and stuff, but even that sort of thing is rather, well, small. There’s far more things that are more important. “What’s your point, Medic?” I can hear all of you (yes, all three of you) asking. Well, how about we complain about the big things as well as the little things? Like the following stuff, which is in no particular order of significance.… [Continue Reading]

What is your favorite thread in all of SPUF’s history?

Medic: See, that’s the thing, I have a crap memory and I can never remember the name of threads that I really enjoyed. The itsurblog threads have always vastly entertained me but quite often, I’ll only catch the tail end of fantastic threads. I suppose the Uprising thread in the Medic subforum has always amused me. It’s good to see a bunch of Medics all working together for a common cause rather than arguing over the Quick Fix. aabicus: Oh man, I’ve got some. Most of them are name-dropped in this thread or that one, but one that isn’t is… [Continue Reading]

Phlogisticast Episode 5

Hey look! A SPUF-related pod cast that has lasted more than a couple of episodes! Yes, really. Seriously. Anyway, the Phlogisticast has got its 5th episode out. In it, Dekky, Thunder and I talk about goodness knows what, mostly Pyro stuff. There’s also some really awful French accents, a chat with a real life Pyro and discussions about the normal Pyro stuff. On top of that, there are plenty of tips for playing Pyro. And on top of ALL of that, we discuss Black Mesa. Yay! You want to listen? Click here! Please excuse the fact that Dekky believed the… [Continue Reading]

Phlogisticast Episode 2

Episode 2 of the Phlogisticast is out, officially making it longer than 99% of podcasts on the internet! *noisemaker* The episode is dedicated to Scout and all his charming weapons that fill a special place in our hearts (with lead). The guest star is, naturally, a Demoman/Medic main who I’m sure has lots of great things to say about his double soft counter. So what are you waiting for? Fill that Boost meter and speed on over to Youtube to watch it! And what’s that? Episode 3 of the Phlogisticast is out too! What’s episode 3 about? Why, SPUF’s least… [Continue Reading]

The 400th Article, now with added prizes!

“So what do you have planned for this 400th article?” Since this is our 400th article, let’s have a look at some random stuff! There’s also a contest further down, so don’t go away! As of writing, we have had over 100,000 views, with over 100 comments. Not a lot of comments, but comments aren’t that great anyway. Most people comment in our SPUF thread instead. Most views in one day was 852, on the 28th of April 2014. The article published that day was “Demoknight, thou shalt not increase thy turn radius” by Aabicus. Most referrals to this site come… [Continue Reading]

Helvetica Standard or: How I learned to Stop Worrying and Watch Moe Anime

SPUF’s resident maidsassin Corvette is throwing a huge 10000-post giveaway! Some amazing contributions have rolled through, as SPUFers prove just what they’re willing to do to get free stuff. Well, it turns out I’m willing to watch 3 episodes of Nichijou, which Wikipedia describes as a “Comedy Slice of Life Manga”, but my friends were quick to correct me that manga is the comics and anime is the show. The fact that I didn’t know that should be an indication as to just how green I am in this field. But that Genuine Pip-Boy might as well be a Klondike… [Continue Reading]

The Phlogisticast

I’m selling my soul for advertising again but it’s for a good reason, really! You know that guy Dekky who’s been providing newbie-friendly articles around here? Well, he’s starting up a newbie-friendly podcast too! It’s also vaguely related to SPUF because I dunno, we all kinda wanted a SPUF podcast and we never got around to it. But with serial lurker Dekky, we might finally get one. And the best bit is that I’m in it, so you can all totally hear my horrible, completely-not-German-in-the-slightest, worryingly-not-Medic’s-gender voice. Oh, and you also get to hear the wonderful voices of Dekky and… [Continue Reading]
