A Tale of Two Communities

Lately, SPUF has gotten a bit cabin-feverish, and I can’t say I blame them. The anger seems to be directed at Valve’s repeated promises of “great stuff on the horizon!” and the actuality of the extreme drought of new content for TF2. Recently, even the throwaway crap such as blog posts, cosmetics, and localization-file-only updates have dried up. I can understand why SPUF is upset. But I disagree with how a large amount of this anger seems to be directed at Dota 2, Valve’s newest cash cow and spearhead of the MOBA genre that is clearly getting the lion’s share… [Continue Reading]

A Farewell to Arms…

Last night, we received an email. Not just any email, a very special one from a very special company. In it was lots of technical jargon that I didn’t understand but aabicus did, as the email was meant for him and not me. We spent the whole night discussing the email and eventually, aabicus accepted the offer, despite him not receiving any pay for his services. As from today, aabicus will be writing weekly for the Team Fortress 2 blog, giving us all the juicy gossip going on with the TF2 team, as well as leaking info on any new… [Continue Reading]

How to Come Up With Ideas For New Daily SPUF Articles

The Daily SPUF loves publishing articles written by members of the community! TF2 is such a multi-faceted game that no one individual can master or even care about all of it, so having a fresh new perspective on our beloved game is important for the blog’s coverage. But a lot of people write to me saying that while they’d love to and want to write an article, they can’t think of what to write about! Writer’s block can hit all of us, and I’m no exception. But here are some common themes that routinely produce great articles to get those… [Continue Reading]

“Mirrored Maps” event results!

That event was, in my personal opinion, one of our best yet! Ultimately Team 1 swept in a 3-1 victory, losing only Lwobtsud to a ninja backcap by team 2 spy John Caveson. But the real point was to try some mind-bending maps that challenged the hundreds of hours we collectively have on the classics, and I saw more than one person bump into a wall during the event. Kip‘s streams of the event are posted on Youtube for those who’d like to rewatch the event. Thanks Kip and KobeKun for casting the event! And if you missed it, don’t… [Continue Reading]

A Particularly Spuffy White Day

Just for a bit of background information, this fic comes from the now deleted SPUF Makes A Story thread. Essentially, said thread had members suggesting concepts for one of our writers, Argeon, to write a story about. A number of actual SPUFers were also to be included as characters, which included A 1970 Corvette, aabicus, The Medic, Argeon himself, Huff, and stamda. The final concept ended up being about the SPUFers surviving in the zombie apocalypse, becoming SPUF of the Dead, which can currently be found here on the Daily SPUF. In any case, one of the original concepts suggested was a… [Continue Reading]

Beloved Daily SPUF Redirect URL Shutting Down, Millions in Mourning

If our fair blog were a TF2 playstyle, he’d be a roamer. A while back we switched from spufblog.com to blog.spuf.info, and left the old URL as a redirect that aabicus was paying 18 dollars a year to keep running. Well, it didn’t seem that useful so we’re closing it down. If you don’t interact with the “spufblog.com” URL, this won’t affect you, and really this won’t affect the visible blog in any way. So if you need to, check and update your bookmarks; the old URL was on the first page of the SPUF megathread for some time.

SPUF of the Dead: Chapter One

SPUF OF THE DEAD Chapter 1: Is There Anybody Out There?           As the old, dust-covered phone jangled off, two men turned around in surprise from their desks and gazed at the spectacle; the two detectives had not received a single call in a while. “Shall I?” One of the detectives asked, receiving affirmation in return. His name was Donald Stamda, or more commonly referred to as “Don” or simply “Stamda”. He bounced up and walked towards the phone in a relaxed manner, yawning in the poorly-lit room. Stamda was a tall and handsome, smooth-talking man with a fitting pair… [Continue Reading]

Why you should visit the Unofficial SPUF Server

So, the night before this article was written, (since we don’t publish articles immediately) everyone jumped onto the SPUF server and had a whale of a time. We had all sorts of fun and it was nice. It turns out, all we have to do is throw a couple of people in there and it’s lovely. I’m going to tell you why we should visit the SPUF server more often.
