How to improve User/Moderator relationships

Ah, moderators. You can’t live with them and you can only live without them if you can endure vast amounts of flaming spam. Respect levels vary between forums, but moderators and users have never seen eye to eye. It’s an authority thing, and a tough nut to crack in the realms of the internet, the one place that doesn’t have a strict, 100% authority. But there are ways moderators and users alike can improve how they react to one another. But Medic, I hear you ask, what do you know about moderating? Well, I used to run a forum. Nothing… [Continue Reading]

People need guidance…

People are stupid. We’re mindless drones who will do whatever the man tells us, unless it’s something dumb like telling someone to eat their own vomit. Most people will probably not go that far. But yes, people desperately need direction, because they’re often too dumb to work things out. It’s almost certainly the case in TF2. Like every other Free To Play game out there, Team Fortress 2 has its fair share of blatant idiots who refuse to learn. It also has a lot of geuine newbies who have no idea what they’re doing, because they are, in fact, new… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Pre-Birthday Wishlist

It’s my birthday tomorrow. Instead of asking for a pony or something, I’m going to ask for TF2 stuff. Not items, just some small things that would benefit us and that I’d like. Of course, none of this will happen, but it’s worth mentioning. Or just idly talking about. Talking is nice, right? Thing the first: A little bit more conversation between us and Valve. I’m not actually asking for constant updates and blog posts and stuff. Back when Left 4 Dead was more of a thing, the people who wrote the L4D blog would do the occasional history lesson,… [Continue Reading]

Design a weapon for TF2! (part two!)

I asked this question before, but there were only three staff members then. No reusing weapon concepts, you three! ———————————— John Caveson: A modified 1903 Springfield rifle for Soldier that’s a replacement for the shotty and basically a sniper rifle that can only no-scope. It would probably do around a 40-50 damage pershot. It will give Soldier better long-range capabilities while sacrificing the meatshoting and spread capabilities of the shotgun for close range protection. aabicus: You know what I’ve always wanted to see? A Medigun that kept the invulnerability Uber and tampered with the other stats instead. Just because the Kritzkrieg… [Continue Reading]

What if Pyro could Double Jump?

Pyro was always supposed to be the ambush class. He/she/it was supposed to sneak around, much like the Spy, then burn anyone he/she/it comes across, while a Spy aims for high priority targets like Medics and Snipers. That’s fine and all that, but Pyro lacks in multiple departments and often finds him/her/itself being nothing more than an Uber Stopper. Why? Because Pyro lacks mobility and a good, reliable way of getting around. So, what if Pyro could double jump? Why Pyro of all people? Surely Spy could do with a double jump? Well, I’d love to give Spy some form… [Continue Reading]

Some interesting ideas – TF Comics

So, it’s been a month since the startling events in Team Fortress Comics #4 and already I’m wondering what’s going to happen next. Let’s be frank, the last bit of that comic was startling. Sniper really isn’t having a good time and Soldier’s girlfriend is having a hard time being the tenth class. Those other mercenaries are worrying and the Administrator looks like shit. Hey, don’t look at me like that, it’s hard writing an opening paragraph that describes what I’m talking about without spoiling the comics for those who are waiting for them all to come out! Anyway, yes,… [Continue Reading]

Things TF2 still really needs

I wrote an article about things that Team Fortress 2 lacks before and none of those things got added, as far as I recall. In Valve’s eyes, I simply don’t exist unless I’m sorting out my brother’s stuff after he got phished. And even then it took a week for Steam Support to sort things out. So since Valve clearly doesn’t acknowledge my existence, here’s another list of things that Valve should add to TF2. Because why not? If you want, you can read the first article here. 1. Play testing before updates. The last few TF2 updates have been… [Continue Reading]

Simple ways Valve could improve offline mode

The offline bots will always make me smile. They have an earnest determination that really makes it seem like they’re trying their hardest to be the best teammates possible. Not that they’ll ever realize that dream, but good on them for trying. However, as numerous people throughout the years have noted, Valve has restricted them to stock-only for the duration of their existence, and any justifications for this restriction have slowly eroded as TF2 has evolved. Itemtest lets you equip a puppet bot with a number of working unlocks like Bonk! and Mann Vs. Machine bots use unlocks all the time.… [Continue Reading]

A collection of taunt suggestions

When I look back at the Love and War update, all I see is an awesome video, fat Engineers, a conga taunt, a stupid ‘shield’ and a parachute. That’s pretty much it. Nothing else really sort of stuck in my mind. Yes, we’ve got the Rock Paper Scissors taunt and taunts in which we headbutt each other, and the ability to high five enemy players (which is awesome mind you) but the taunts we got don’t cover what we really want. So I’m going to be lame and list a bunch of ideas of taunts we should have. The Handshake… [Continue Reading]
