Battle of the Firespitters: Pyro vs Toa Vakama

Hello again. Are we all sitting comfortably? Good. You might want to stand up again, because your chair has just burst into flames. Along with the floor. Grab your computer and run, because two of the most hotheaded combatants in the universe are duelling just across the street. On one side is our masked, gloved and asbestos-clad Pyro. He/she is a very familiar being to us SPUFers. Specializing in ambush and close-range combat, the Pyro is a formidable beastie that skulks in the shadows. We don’t know very much about Pyro and probably never will. What we do know is… [Continue Reading]

Why Random Crits Are Good For You

I always raise an eyebrow when I see lengthy threads with detailed descriptions, where OP explains in great detail why random critical hits are unbalanced. So much wasted effort to explain something that is so obvious. Random crits are not balanced – they are designed to be so. They are not balanced, and it’s good. Why? Most of you who played, say, Mario Cart or even Call Of Duty already know the answer. Things like Blue Shell or the “Noob Tube” are there for purely social reasons – to keep players together, in a group. Time passes and players who… [Continue Reading]

Five weapons that synergize with Britney Spears songs

As a bilingual user of the amazing music program called Spotify, I like to listen to some Anglo/Franco tunes while I’m playing TF2. Quietly enough so I can still hear Spies uncloaking, of course. And with my impeccable musical taste, I get Britney Spears tracks coming up a lot. In case I completely scrambled your brains with that intro, let me get to my point. You know when you’re doing something intensive and a particular song gets stuck in your head? Then you do that same thing later and the same song goes through your mind? I call this musical… [Continue Reading]

Team Fortress 2 Weapons in Skyrim

This is one of those “does what it says on the tin title” articles, but if you’re in the mood for really utterly breaking the lore (and perhaps the law) in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, then this article is for you. First off, where do you get this glorious add on? Simple. The Steam Workshop. As much as the Nexus Mod Manager and all that are great, just clicking “subscribe” works well too. I found these mods by typing TF2 into the search bar. There are three addons for the TF2 weapons, a melee add on, a crossbow add… [Continue Reading]

Community-created merch on WeLoveFine.com!

Gentlemen, it’s time for an update. You may recall the announcement approximately one month ago. It constituted a call to arms, as ’twere, for TF2 fans to design new merchandise. Now there’s another announcement! The first batch of community-created merch items is now ready for sale on welovefine.com. Below is a screenshot of the TF2-dedicated portion of this site. Valve has been selling stuff here already, as well as on the Valve Store. It’s the same website where the recently created ‘Mini-Mercs’ are showcased. For more info on those cute models, check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TeamFortress2?fref=ts So far… [Continue Reading]

Your Eternal Frustration

A couple of weeks ago I realized my inventory had filled up with duplicates. I seemed to have three of every weapon I didn’t like and none of the weapons I was really keen on. So I had a look at Crafting blueprints on the Wiki. My Spy loadout was looking a bit bland and I wanted to try out a new knife. So the first new thing I crafted was Your Eternal Reward. What a mistake. To craft this knife you need to mix Reclaimed Metal with the Cloak and Dagger. Alrighty, I had three of those watches and… [Continue Reading]

How to Attract Medics and Influence People

As a Medic main, I’ve had a lot of experience with people who want me to heal and Uber them, and people who I want to heal/Uber but they don’t seem to notice. In this day and age of loadout versatility, it’s no longer enough to be playing the correct class in a situation; you need to have the correct weapons equipped before Medics are going to start considering you a viable Uber target. Here are some tips for those wishing Medics would consider Ubering them more often. These are listed by class, and only cover classes that are considered regular… [Continue Reading]

LAZORS

When you think lasers in TF2, you think of Dr Grordbort. You think of the Cow Mangler, the Righteous Bison, the Man Melter and *shudders* the Pomson. They’re the lasers we have. It’s either those or the Machina and the little beams seen on the Wrangler and Sniper bots in MvM. But do they really fulfill that idea of a deadly laser? Not really. We complain about them but they’re not really lasers. Or at least, they’re not the awe-inspiring things you see in other video games. Let’s have a quick look around in Team Fortress 2 before we head off… [Continue Reading]

The Vita-Saw

The Vita-Saw is a truly unique weapon. The only item in the entirety of TF2 that can carry an effect over from respawn, it brings up so many questions on a fundamental canonical level that I could make my entire article on that. Instead, I’d like to talk about its practical usage. In-game, it’s far and away the best Medic melee, hands down. Competitive Medics who run the Vita-Saw force their opponent to run the saw as well or be at a constant disadvantage just because dropping the Medic doesn’t automatically equal Uber advantage. How quickly did he respawn? Has… [Continue Reading]
