The Planeswalker Helm

The Planeswalker Helm? That ugly-looking Medic helmet? Yes, that helmet that looks like the gutted-out carapace of a deformed shellfish slapped onto the Medic’s head. The Planeswalker Helm is a promotional item for for people who pre-ordered  Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012. It’s based on Garruk Wildspeaker, a planeswalker, which is a sort of powerful ascended being in the Magic: The Gathering lore. Garruk himself is a 8 feet 2 inches, 480 lbs beast of a man who’s a warrior-druid that wields a pretty sweet axe and prefers the wild. About the only connection he has… [Continue Reading]

600 Articles of Medicing

Not long ago, I wrote an article on how I’d written over 500 articles on the Daily SPUF. Since then, I haven’t stopped writing, oh no, I’ve been writing more and more and more. I’ve actually gone straight past the 600 article mark. Turns out, I got distracted with my own writings and forgot to come back to this article and actually write anything of substance. Then again, I don’t actually know what to write or anything. At the same time, I could also mention that we’re closing in flown straight past on the 1300 articles mark. Really though, neither… [Continue Reading]

Press ‘2’ to Give Energy

Despite all of my talk about Warframe, there’s something I’ve been almost hesitant to mention. I’ve always been someone who veers towards healers and support characters, but here I am, playing Warframe and keeping far, far away from the main support character in the game. As Warframes go, Trinity isn’t that hard to get. You need to complete quite a few junctions – Venus, Mercury, Mars and Phobos, before you can access Ceres and reach the boss battle there. For some reason, the boss fight is against Captain Vor and Lieutenant Kril, two bosses you’ve already fought on Mercury and… [Continue Reading]

Cardboard Weaponry – The Medi Gun

I’ve made a lot of cardboard weapons over the years, most of which are replicas of TF2 weapons. This year though, only two new weapons have joined my arsenal. The problem is that I’m running out of space for all these weapons, and since I’m planning on moving out at some point, I can’t exactly take them all with me when I do. I’m considering selling them, but really, how much are people willing to pay for replica weapons made out of masking tape, glue, toilet roll tubes and cereal boxes? Plus they’re fragile and will probably arrive smashed to… [Continue Reading]

Medic goes to Cyprus Comic Con: Day 2

Well, I got back an hour ago from our trip to and from Nicosia/Lefkosia and it was clear enough to see those dumb horrible Turkish flags painted on the Pentadaktyla mountains. I wasn’t going to write a blog post about today but I decided why not? I’m home early enough and I have to write my 500 words a day anyway, as well as jot down ideas for other articles. Today we decided to be a bit more casual in our costumes. I swapped my long sleeved top for a sleeveless one, ditched the stupid grenades and swapped my flamethrower… [Continue Reading]

I JUST WANT TO PLAY MEDIC DAMMIT

You know what’s making me the most angry right now with TF2? I’ve been unable to play Medic for the longest of times. There’s actually several reasons why. It’s not just the normal stuff. By normal stuff, you all know what I mean. The horrible team compositions consisting of nothing with more than 150 health. If you are lucky, you might find a Pyro scattered in the ruins of your base on defence, but Pyro aren’t the best when it comes to decent pockets for Medics to heal. That’s not to say that Pyros and Scouts aren’t bad pockets. The… [Continue Reading]

History of Healing

I mentioned in my previous article that TF2 was the first multiplayer game that introduced me to the concept of playing the team medic. That got me thinking of where that intrigue lead me to in games to come. Well, spoilers, it lead me to bullets, explosions, dodging and dragging my teammates out of whatever hell they had fallen into. Thankless work, usually, but someone’s gotta do it! On the plus side, playing the role of Medic in chaotic shooters is an adrenaline rush of its own. But if that isn’t enough, resting on the knowledge that you’re making every… [Continue Reading]

Why I Play Medic

With so many of the classes having such firepower and influence on the field, I can understand how Medic can be an easy class to ignore. But the beauty of the Medic is his ability through the wonders of medical science to unlock and maximise the potential of his patient, and by extension, his team. The first time I played Team Fortress 2, Medic was the first class I selected, being drawn to the weird and wonderful concept of being purely supportive to the team. A gun that was only capable of helping others both baffled and fascinated me. I’ve… [Continue Reading]

Why are we buffing Medic again?

Hey, do any of you remember when I wrote an article explicitly saying to NOT buff Medic any more because as a class we’ll be too powerful and start to fuck with the meta of TF2? You know, this article? I clearly said in it to not buff Medic because he’s in a plenty good enough. Let me repeat myself. Medic is a super strong class that is pretty simple to play but very hard to be a pro at. Having a Medic on your team does not guarantee you victory, as a Medic can’t physically carry his team in… [Continue Reading]

The Meet your Match Update is here – Early Thoughts

The Meet your Match update has shipped, after apparently holding off for a bit as to not disturb a major ETF2L match, which is nice of them. Honestly though, I’m not sure what to say. I suppose I’m happy that we’re getting an update, and that we’ll be getting more updates in the future. Of course we got new taunts. The TF2 youtube channel had them uploaded but private for ages. Taunts are basically the new hats, but better because they don’t fuck with the art style in any way. Of course we got crates. The keyless crates are interesting.… [Continue Reading]
