A talk about the Scout Melee

So a lot of talk on the forums over the past few months has pointed out that the stock melee is underpowered, reskins included.  But why is it?  Because there are better unlocks out there?  From what I can tell, a general consensus agrees that stock melee weapons across all weapons are underpowered compared to other unlocks, such as the Axtinguisher and Bushwaka.  Better yet, those same people also claim that the rest of the melees should be balanced around said unlocks, rather than stock.  Now, although I do not agree with them on that case, I’m not saying they… [Continue Reading]

Loved For What You Are: It’s Okay To Be Situational

It seems to me that many people are of the opinion  that certain pieces of weaponry in Team Fortress 2 are underpowered or useless by the nature of not being optimal at all times.  If something is generally going to serve you better than all the other options available, why would you ever bother to use the alternatives?  Is it really worth it to attempt to engineer a situation where your situational alternative will potentially outperform the typical best choice? I would argue that yes, it is, and my reasoning is as follows: First of all, there are many times where… [Continue Reading]

The Solemn Spy

My very first article here was about the Solemn Vow, and now, over 100 articles later, I feel it’s time to revisit this glorious, semi-overpowered weapon. I’m feeling so sentimental about it that I’m even using the original photo from that article. In the original article, I spent most of my time going over the game play elements of it, how it allowed the user to make more informed decisions about whether to run away or not. Today, I want to talk about some different aspects of this weapon. The Solemn Vow to me has sentimental value. I managed to… [Continue Reading]

What I think should happen with the Demoman’s Shields

Let me be frank, I’m a Medic main so I’m going to be a tad biased here, but I’M the person who’s always being targeted by these damn sword-swinging bastards and whenever I need a good bit of explosive work done, all I can ever find are more of these damn medieval wannabes. Just because you have a grenade launcher, doesn’t mean you’re an explosives expert. You have the same, if not less explosive power than a damn Soldier if all you have is a grenade launcher, a shield and a fancy sword. Oh and let’s not forget that these… [Continue Reading]

Behaving Strangely: Is A Kill-counter Affecting Your Ingame Behavior?

Once upon a time, in the earliest days of my TF2 experience, I was an avid user of the typical “Puff-and-Sting” Pyro loadout.  I wandered about flailing my postal pummeler at anything that crossed my path or flinging flares haphazardly across the map.  It wasn’t effective in the slightest, but it was what made me happy. One day, this changed.  I was randomly given a Strange Shotgun, and I was suddenly a dedicated shotgun jockey.  Engineer and Soldier, both shotgun-wielders, quickly rose to second and third place in my most-played classes.  I didn’t even notice this at the time, but… [Continue Reading]

How The Original Saved My Life

For the longest of times, I used to shy away from Soldier. I used to shy away from all non-Medic classes, only occasionally stepping out to play Pyro or, even more rarely, Engineer, because I felt that I was otherwise not contributing to my team. Keeping X alive is just as good as killing Y, right? Not really, if Y has just killed A, B, C and Z. My decision in maining Soldier was nothing more than me desperately needing to play a high damage, high health class because no one else on my team could be bothered. Only problem… [Continue Reading]

Four Things You Can’t Do With The Crusader’s Crossbow

The Crusader’s Crossbow is an extremely versatile weapon. It’s one of my favorite in the game because of the potential applications it introduces to the Medic playstyle. It’s also one of the most adjusted weapons in Team Fortress 2; its patch history is long and checkered with changes and alterations, for better or for worse. Under the guise of this confusing title, I thought we could go back into the history of this weapon and look at some things it has lost over the years. 1. You can’t shoot arrows with it. When first added to the game, the Crusader’s… [Continue Reading]

Some Under-loved Weapons Which Shine on rd_asteroid

When I first played rd_asteroid, my eventual thoughts were…meh. It’s decent, but before I really understood the map and the game mode it was confusing to the point of frustration. And once I’d played it long enough that it was no longer confusing, its many flaws just seemed to hamper my ability to enjoy myself. A whole lot of classes seem underpowered on this map and several design choices (especially the plethora of overly-good sentry spots) only make it worse. But the more I played, the more I slowly realized that a number of my problems were due to my… [Continue Reading]

The Tide Turner: The awkward guy at the Demo weapon party

Hey there reader, welcome to the Demoman weapon party, come on in. Bottle and Scotsman’s Skullcutter are providing us the drinks, the life of the party Stickybomb Launcher over there is trying to get our beloved introvert Scottish Resistance drunk to celebrate his recent fix, the Grenade Launcher is muttering a few obscenities but its ok, Loch N Load and Loose Cannon are watching him. Eyelander and Chargin’ Targe are just on the balcony over there heckling everyone (especially the drunk clown Sticky Jumper), Claid is wooing over the Splendid Screen whilst Persian Persuader is busy trying to getting Wee… [Continue Reading]

Why moving turning to the booties would be a terrible idea

By Reima As a confirmed enthusiast of the knight, I want to put my official opinion piece on the pseudo-controversy that is the turncharge and the potential use of booties all together. Although turning has been recently recently green lighted, it currently remains under a conditional equip. I believe it’s a fair compromise, albeit a temporary fix. Still a step in the right direction. The public gets the equivalent of Vjoy being injected into the coding, and Knights are universally nerfed as they make that trade for maximum control. Turning knights are stripped of their heavy resistances and super shield… [Continue Reading]
