Weapons that are deemed underpowered

In this game there are several weapons which people view as garbage, now most of them are actually complete shit but a few of them are just being utilized the wrong way. Listing time! The Overdose: “OH MY GOD!”you say, “That 10% movement speed is amazing for decent medics and the penalty doesn’t mean anything.” say the good Medics. whereas newer players soon realize that it has to be active and don’t see a point so scrap it immediately. The real use of the Overdose has nothing to do with 10% and so much more to do with 3%. Let’s… [Continue Reading]

The Gun that Made a Jarate Master Out of Sniper

It was a bizarre trail that led me to picking up the Sydney Sleeper again for the first time in years. First this reddit thread reminded me of my single favorite experience as a TF2 viewer; following STAR_’s team through the 2013 Charity Mixup tournament. Every teammate except STAR_ had never played TF2 before, and through skirmishes and close calls they honed their teamwork and somehow reached the finals to take on Team Mixup with TF2 creator Robin Walker. STAR_’s star performance as a sniper was so inspiring that (exactly like when I first saw it) I immediately switched to maining Sniper and jumped… [Continue Reading]

Carpet-bombing with the Iron Bomber

Demoman for the longest time was my least-played class, and for good reason. While classes like Soldier and Heavy do tons of damage even at low skill levels, good luck actually ever hitting anything if you intend to do the same as Demoman. He is an unusual class, with a deceptively high skill ceiling. The days of Left-Click-Right-Click-BOOM are a thing of the past. And since I already play one intense, deceptively hard class that everyone relies on, I never really fancied taking on another. That has changed. I’ve been edging towards playing more Demoman for ages, sick and tired… [Continue Reading]

The Only Weapon Removed From TF2

I know I already wrote an article on this, but the Persian Persuader has become the first weapon removed from Team Fortress 2. I’ve searched my memory banks and the TF2 Wiki and I’m almost positive the Tough Break Persian Persuader is the first weapon ever to have every single one of its stats removed and replaced with new ones. (I’m not counting the generic sword stats that every bladed Demoknight melee shares, those are inherent in the classification.) For comparison, we went from this: +100% increase in charge recharge rate All ammo collected becomes health Cannot pick up ammo To… [Continue Reading]

The New Vaccinator

During Tough Break, Valve reworked the Vaccinator again. As a Medic main, I felt it was my duty to try the thing out so I can see for myself if the poor thing has finally reached the lofty echelons of the other mediguns, or if it still sucked. I first tried it out on King of The Hill, a game mode that lets me quickly switch from offense to defense. I found that it served its job decently well in both categories. If I were taking on a single enemy with my pocket, I could easily switch to the correct… [Continue Reading]

Persian Persuader’s Not Looking too Peachy…

The Tough Break update was amazing. I love almost all of the balance changes, especially because pretty much every class was buffed in cool ways. Especially my Medic! Holy crap! Ubercharge on Crossbow and Amputator? I’m so excited, except that part of me that fears a complimentary nerf now that those wholly-unneeded buffs were added. Thank god for the alt-fire addition to the Amputator, by the way, now I don’t have to juggle stupidly around with the taunt menus to use my AoE heals. But this article isn’t about Medic. As great as the majority of changes were, the only… [Continue Reading]

What if Pyro had a shotgun primary?

This article is dedicated to Yert, one of the winners of the 900th Article raffle. What’s so interesting about the Pyro is that he’s a dedicated short-range class in a midrange game. Flamethrower, Shotgun, and Fire axe are all heavy hitters up close but rapidly run out of steam the further away your opponent is, and that’s kinda weird in a game where most secondaries are designed to fill a niche where the primary weapon is weaker. But that leaves open the tantalizing possibility of replacing the Flamethrower with an incendiary shotgun of some sort. Pyrophoricity Level 1 Incendiary Shotgun… [Continue Reading]

Administering Medication in Mannpower

This article is dedicated to typenter, one of the winners in the 900th article giveaway. Mannpower. The one game mode that no one is really sure about, and the only official one that can make people completely overpowered. But unlike Mann VS Machine, where you have to work towards your strength, and unlike custom community game modes where everyone is overpowered (Multiplied by Ten) or everyone works together to take down one overpowered enemy (Versus Saxton Hale or Freak Fortress), Mannpower’s overpoweredness depends on two things – who can get the power ups first and who’s got the best Scouts.… [Continue Reading]

Liberty Liability – Having fun with the Liberty launcher

I’ve always been a bit of a purist. For years, I insisted on using stock weaponry on almost all my classes. I still do for Sniper, Spy and Scout, and I use mostly stock on Demoman, Pyro and Heavy. It took me a long time to finally let go of my trusty Bonesaw in exchange for the Solemn Vow. Soldier though has always been different for me. I’ve never been able to settle on a loadout I actually enjoy, and that includes stock weapons. Now I have. Before I go on about the Liberty Launcher, I want to explain WHY… [Continue Reading]

Obtaining Medic Achievements

So, after aabicus’s article about writing about something randomly chosen by the TF2 wiki, I’m going to do the same thing, minus the snazzy gif that aabicus used. Because I’m lazy and can’t be bothered to install anything that will record my screen for like three seconds. Unlike everyone else, I can access the TF2 wiki by typing !tf2 into my search bar, alongside any term I want. Pretty damn useful. Anyway, today’s randomly chosen subject is “obtaining Medic achievements” in Russian. That’s a good thing, because I’ve wanted to talk about achievements for a while. Fun fact, the only… [Continue Reading]
