A Theory on Samurai Jack

Been a while since we had a SPUF of Legend video that came with a Daily SPUF article! We were supposed to make these transcripts for every episode, or write a tie-in article that incorporates the latest episode, but we kinda never do so we’re looking for any suggestions on better ways to integrate The SPUF of Legend with the blog proper. Got any suggestions? Let us know in the comments! This week we’re doing something a little different because my recording software has been a finnicky little twit for about two weeks now, and I can’t figure out why so… [Continue Reading]

MeeMs Thoughts on Difficulty… Again…

So recently, I’ve been thinking about what exactly makes games hard. And, unlike my previous discussion on the matter I’ve been thinking more about this problem from a developer perspective. Particularly the notion that if you make a game too easy people will skip over it, too hard and people will ragequit (before someone mentions it, Dark Souls and similar don’t count – they’re meant to be hard). I was thinking more along the lines of simple, progression-orientated fighting games. In many games to be found there is always a few constant elements to keep said game interesting and fun… [Continue Reading]

aabicus’ First Time in Warframe

As mentioned in this article, a few weeks ago Medic and I tried an experiment where we played a free game of each other’s choice, in the hopes of expanding our horizons. Medic played Planetside 2 with me and I played Warframe with her. The conclusion? She didn’t like her new game very much and I unfortunately have to say the same. 🙁 I really, really wanted to like it, which is the weirdest thing. I’ve loved games that are decidedly worse. I can’t even point to anything in particular the game did wrong, instead I’ve just got this laundry list of positives. The… [Continue Reading]

Surgeon’s Sidearms

What always irritates me when I see Medic cosmetics is that they rarely portray Medic’s medical practice properly. Most cosmetics portray Medic as a doctor. A proper medical doctor. With cosmetics like this one, this one, this one, and this one. and the fact that he’s running around with a Medi Gun in a shiny white labcoat, anyone not familiar with the lore and doesn’t pay attention to the voicelines would’ve thought Medic to be a Hippocrates-loving, pacifistic, and compassionate guardian angel. Meanwhile, the real Medic is an absolute psychopath with his skills being a side effect of his morbid curiosity. Did you… [Continue Reading]

SPUFpowered – A SPUF Away From SPUF

With SPUF’s death, the community has been exploring its options for continuing on some other site. Posters from the Off Topic SPUF section are meeting up on their Steam Group, others are discussing the situation on SCUD and reddit, and we from TF2 have mostly been congregating on r/SPUF, though it’s really intended as more of a temporary “what do we do now” hub while we find a better place. A better place to keep our community going is SPUFpowered, a forum filled with old SPUF regulars who have existed in their shadowy little corner of the internet for years now.… [Continue Reading]

So Many Things a Space Ninja Can Hit You With…

Melee weaponry in Warframe is pretty varied. I mean, it’s not Skyrim with a billion mods levels of varied, or as varied as all the randomly generated bladed weaponry that increases melee damage in the Borderlands games, but really, unless you want spears, there’s a little bit of melee weaponry for everyone. That being said, there are spears. They’re just primary weapons – The Javlok and the Ferrox, which fire elemental blasts and can be thrown at enemies to cause explosions. The only downside is you need to go and pick them up afterwards. Anyway, back to melee weaponry. There’s… [Continue Reading]

SPUF is Kill

Maybe it’s a false alarm, maybe somebody somewhere hit the wrong button, maybe it’s a late April Fools’ joke. But right now, our beloved Steam User Forums redirects to SCUD. Update: According to Ianskate, SPUF moderator, it’s official, SPUF is gone. This happened extremely recently (I was surfing SPUF a few minutes before it stopped letting me) and it’s something people have kinda maybe vaguely suspected might happen at some point, but not really because Valve has loads of money and there were at least a few thriving communities, such as the TF2, Dota 2, CSGO and Off-Topic forums. SCUD even… [Continue Reading]

Very Early First Impressions of Dragon Souls and a Chat About UI Design

So I’ve been eyeing Dragon Souls for ages. A free to play game where you play as a dragon fighting other dragons while collecting gold? One with a more open-world, traditional dragon feel rather than a weird futuristic match-made deathmatch objective game mode cloning monster thing like Time of Dragons? Sign me up! Well, kinda. You gotta keep an eye on the email address you sign up with. And keep an eye on Dragon Souls in general since it’s a very small early access in beta sort of thing. Well, alpha. I don’t think we can call it a beta… [Continue Reading]

The Razorback Armada Returns

So a while back, when Nidus came out, invasions between the Grineer and Corpus were given a little more meaning. For every invasion that was won by one side, they would spend 12 hours occupying the location they’d won and they’d build progress to one of two gigantic enemies. The Grineer are working on a Formorian Fleet and the Corpus are working on a Razorback Armada. Well, the Corpus got there first, probably because they offered us better loot to fight for them, and now we’ve got to fight this… thing as a weekend event. But before we do so,… [Continue Reading]

Alan Wake Is Getting Removed From Steam

Alan Wake is one of my favorite games of all time, as evidenced by the number of articles that reference it despite me never explicitly dedicating one to it or its sequel Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.  The story-driven narrative is exciting and suspenseful, with a cast of memorable characters and a plot that feels like living through a Stephen King novel, interspersed with Twilight Zone-style twists and framed around a flashlight-based combat system that never lets you fully feel in control of the situation. Well, if you’re hoping to buy Alan Wake for yourself, don’t dally because at the end of this weekend… [Continue Reading]
