Nucleus is a great map and I don’t care what you say about it.

I remember saying once that I disliked Nucleus. I can’t remember why, but it was something along the lines of it being a Sniper friendly map. But after having played on it a bit more, and having played on REAL Sniper friendly maps, I feel I should retract that statement. And maybe add a few more positive statements too. My original thoughts were about Snipers being way too powerful on Nucleus, especially on Arena Mode since you die and that’s it. I decided though to try and play Sniper myself. We all know I’m a useless Sniper, but to be… [Continue Reading]

How to Jump Safely in a Wrangled Universe: Adaptability, Self-Preservation, and You

As fun as it can be, the viability of sentry jumping — undoubtedly one of the flashiest tools in the Engineer’s arsenal — is severely limited in comparison to the other two forms of self-initiated explosive mobility, rocket- and sticky-jumping. The setup and positioning demands, not to mention the unforgiving health cost — all the more dangerous for a light class — can leave players scratching their heads and asking, quite reasonably, what possible use sentry jumping could have outside of gimmick plays in artificial or highly unlikely situations. No matter how you spin it, sentry jumping will always require… [Continue Reading]

Pyromania 101 with the guy who used to hate Pyros

Something extraordinary has happened. I think Pyro might be my new favourite class. Hiya chaps and chapettes, I’m Dekky and I’ve been playing TF2 for about a year now. I’m still a “newbie,” let’s get that out of the way now. In the past year, I’ve been burnt to a crisp countless times, had my head bashed in with every axe and hammer in the game and been airblasted off many a cliff. I’ve never enjoyed having Pyros around and never had success when playing as one. In fact, when Medic interviewed me for this very blog, I said Pyro was… [Continue Reading]

Stock engineer is better on offense than defense

(Note: This article was co-written with SilverAlen, and it was originally his observation. Thanks Alen!) The key here is “stock” Engineer, but after some time playing him I’ve noticed that he’s honestly more important to his team on offense than defense. At least on pubs. Why? Hear me out! If engineer is on a dedicated offensive team, enemies are less likely to push and less likely to destroy his nest. Even when they do, they usually do not prioritize him. Defensive teams tend to use the Kritzkrieg or Quick-Fix, so you are less likely to get ubers. Spies will typically… [Continue Reading]

Synergy In Every Medic Loadout Combination

Medic has very few unlocks, it’s true, but this really is because almost every niche he’d need filled is already in there somewhere. The lion’s share of discussion on this topic is dedicated to his secondary Medigun, but what about his options in primary and melee? Well, for a change of pace I thought I could cover every single available weapon combo in Medic’s Primary/Melee slots, how they synergize, and their viability and effectiveness as a combo. I’m leaving out the bonesaw because it should never be used ever. Crossbow/Amputator: If you’re going to use the Amputator, this is the… [Continue Reading]

Medic tries to explain more things…

There’s so much unexplained stuff that it hurts in Team Fortress 2. Alright, it doesn’t really hurt, but for an anal retentive OCD person, it probably does annoy them a bit. Just a bit, mind you. There’s generally more important things to be bothered about, like whether you locked all the doors or whether you turned the gas off. Today, I’m going to actually finish this article because I’ve been writing it on and off for about two months explain a few more things. Mostly taunt-related for some reason. The Medicating Melody Taunt Personally, I rarely find a chance to use the… [Continue Reading]

How to get Infinite Hand Grenades in Team Fortress Classic

If you’re familiar with Team Fortress Classic, then you should immediately notice something wrong with this picture. Grenades are items thrown with the F key (by default), they’re not a holdable item like your other weapons. Well, while grabbing screenshots for my last article on grenades, I stumbled across something very cool. Absolutely a glitch, but one where you can get a bottomless supply of fully-functional hand grenades. Here’s what you need to do to replicate the glitch yourself: 1) The first thing you’ll need to do is import the maps from Half-Life Deathmatch into TFC. In other words, grab… [Continue Reading]

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

It’s tough being a Pyro. Not in the same way that it’s tough being a Spy in a competitive environment or being a lone Medic in a team full of Snipers, but in a more philosophical way. People rage at Pyros no matter what they do, forgetting the ease at which they can fuck up the enemy team, forgetting the utility a Pyro can bring and forgetting that Pyros can extinguish fires so stop running away dammit! Of course, Pyros are appreciated in some ways. Everyone would rather see a second Pyro than a second Spy, because a Pyro, no… [Continue Reading]

On Grenades

Let’s cut right to the chase: Grenades were famously removed from Team Fortress 2. Why? I’ll let Adrian Finol of the Hydro Developer Commentary speak for me: One of the main changes between Team Fortress Classic and Team Fortress 2 was the removal of thrown grenades. Most classes could carry a standard hand grenade along with a secondary grenade, tied more closely to the class. Team Fortress 2’s focus on unique class roles led us to notice that the standard hand grenade was a more powerful combat decider than some of the primary weapons. This made the classes… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s turn to talk about the removal of the Demoknight Turning Script

I’m sure none of you care any more, unless your name is Craylash or something, but I want to talk about how I, often the victim of the Demoknight (and everyone else of course) feel about the removal of the Demoknight Turning Script. Now, I am a very fair person. I have a strong sense of justice and I always say what I feel is right or wrong. Well, not always, but in this case, I’m saying so. And I’m going to put it right here: I feel that the Turning Scripts and Charge turning are unfair to their victims.… [Continue Reading]
