The Gunslinger gets a lot of hate. In fact, if we were to gather all the hate for the Gunslinger, we could probably power a mission to the moon. Actually, that was probably a bad example, as modern calculators have more power than those rockets that went to the moon had, but still, there is so much hate, it can make your head spin. Hours have been spend on SPUF going backwards and forwards, with nothing to show for it apart from a single bug fix.
Now, before we start, let’s make this clear: I am not a fan of the Gunslinger. But I am also not a person who screams “REMOVE IT!” and “NATASCHA IT INTO OBLIVION!” and all that. I’m somewhere in the middle. And that’s what the Gunslinger needs, slightly less bias.
Some of us (read: me), are not very lucky at spy. We tend to miss the backstabs due to random movement by the target, we struggle with chainstabs and trickstabs, and since we hate the dead ringer, we feel like we gimp ourselves as spies. You can’t find good Melee-only servers anymore. Medieval Mode took out most of those, and the removal of Sudden Death from default removed the times it happens on normal servers. But every so often, a server goes melee only, and I remember how fun it can be. Everything is very simple; just you and your bludgeoning weapon of choice. Here are some tips for fighting melee only.
(Note: If it’s one of those servers that allows the booties and shields but literally no other non-melee weapons, my tip is to leave the server. So-called “melee-only” servers that do that can go die in a fire.)
