I Wrote an Article About The Chargin’ Targe

Oh wait, no I didn’t, but boy howdy, everyone else sure did! I haven’t been playing this game for that long (coming up on my three year anniversary this June), but I can say that I’ve never really seen more people upset over something in this game being changed. A lot of folks I’ve seen out there have drawn analogues to Valve’s recent changes to the Demo shields, with their Sticky Jumper nerf. And, I’ll admit, when I saw those Sticky Jumper patch notes, I was a little bit like: But I quickly got over it. So I can’t jump… [Continue Reading]

“Demoknight, Thou Shalt Not Increase Thine Turn Radius”

The balancing eyes of Valve, having recently fixed the first of two ways to increase your shield charge degree, have now gone ahead and nerfed out the ability to bypass the restriction with a controller too. This means that there is no way whatsoever to increase your turning radius beyond equipping the Ali Baba’s Wee Booties, and even then I cannot notice a difference with those things on. This has basically removed what little skill indexing Demoknight has. Many people (myself included) never saw why increased turning ability was somehow overpowered, considering you’re giving up the ludicrously powerful Sticky Launcher… [Continue Reading]

================IMPORTANT INFO================ Where: The SPUF server When: Saturday 7:30 pm GMT =============================================== As you may have noticed, Demoknight recently received a painful blow in the mobility department. In honor of our fallen friend, the SPUF server is having a hack-n-slashathon starring everyone’s favorite haunted sword! RULES 1. Everyone who joins the server must play Demoman. It’s first-come-first-serve. 2. Map is a secret. Time is exactly 25 hours from the moment I posted this announcement, at 7:30pm GMT. 3. The only allowed weapons are Ali Baba’s Wee Booties, Bootlegger, Chargin’ Targe, Sticky Jumper, Eyelander, Nessie’s Nine Iron, and Haunted Headless Horsemann’s… [Continue Reading]

In Defense of Nucleus

I frequently play on KotH servers that rotate the stock maps, and I have found that the least popular KotH map that comes up is Nucleus. It seems everyone loves Harvest and Lakeside, find Sawmill and Viaduct tolerable, but they seem to hate Nucleus. I personally cannot figure out why! So why is Nucleus a good map? Lack of Spammability on the Central Point One thing that Viaduct and Sawmill, and to a lesser extent, Harvest, suffer from is the ever-present spam around the final point. Soldiers and Demomen lob rockets, grenades, and stickies onto the point as if they… [Continue Reading]

Analysis of the Persian Persuader’s Health Regen

If I’m not using the Ullapool Caber or Pain Train, I’m using the Persian Persuader. Health regen is a great thing to have on the Demoman, and the Sticky Jumper synergies surprisingly well with the Persian because it doubles the health return you get from ammo. (I’ve mentioned this before). But I never really understood why. Finally, I got around to doing some testing to figure it out, and I learned that the Persian derives its health return from the amount of primary and secondary ammo on the wearer. (For these purposes, the Booties are considered a stock grenade launcher… [Continue Reading]

The Best Bad Maps

Now, if you have seen me talk about maps at all on the forums, you may notice that I really don’t pay attention to anything but the looks. TF2’s artstyle inspires sceneryboners for me on a daily basis, so much so that years ago I tried twice hold a poll on which skybox was the best. I mean, look at this concept for the Alpine skybox and map design. But really, we all know that Tf2’s artstyle is down the drain, right? Or at least that’s the gist I get from a lot of people complaining about it. In any… [Continue Reading]

Fixing A Hole

It’s no secret that some of the senior staff here at SPUF really like Special Delivery and the only map that supports it, Doomsday. However, one common thing that many people I talk to about Doomsday tell me is that the entire map is a horrendously mapped, broken pile of garbage. And they’re absolutely right. As aabicus put it when I spoke with him several nights ago, “It’s like Valve forgets about the Sticky Jumper when they make maps.” The opposite seems to be true as well, in that the folks at Valve forget about maps when they made the Sticky Jumper. Doomsday… [Continue Reading]

If you could add a weapon of your own design into TF2, what would it be?

The Clear Shot Level 5 Grenade Launcher On hit: +20 health -25% clip size aabicus: As someone who loves the Grenade Launcher but wishes he had more survivability, this very simple setup (that should remind you of a current TF2 weapon) has been my favorite stat concept I’ve come up with. We’re going with Clear Shot for its name only because my suggestion was a little rude. In my opinion, it holds an attraction for all brands of Demoman. Sticky Launcher demos can use it to regain health if they get the opportunity, demoknights and Sticky Jumper demos have to… [Continue Reading]
