Medic does Competitive – 6v6 and 4v4 week 4

It gets better and better! Actually that’s a lie, but compared to last week, at least for 6v6, it was a huge improvement. 4v4… Not so much, but I guess at least we actually got to play. Week 4 for 6v6 was alright. We had a team trying to get into Platinum (because UGC doesn’t have enough divisions for anyone but North America and just throws everyone else into a stupid pile, and because the season is only 8 weeks, there’s not enough time for proper matchmaking to happen) playing against a team getting their feet wet in a new… [Continue Reading]

Medic Does Competitive – 6v6 and 4v4 Week 3

Well, it’s going from bad to worse around here, as this week left me not really wanting to play TF2 any more. It’s all too much for me, I’m far too inexperienced and rusty and I suck at 5cp. Really, it’s all my fault. With Confusion missing in action still, I had to organize everything again. But this week I have been caught up by real life too. I didn’t manage to organize a scrim or anything at all, so this week’s maps, cp_Sunshine and koth_badlands were both untouched. The biggest problem was trying to find a time for people… [Continue Reading]

Medic Does Competitive – Week 2 6v6 and 4v4

Ah, matchmaking. A process in which you’re matched up with enemies of a somewhat similar skill level, in the hopes that you’ll have a nice, happy, balanced but challenging match. Except maybe not. This week’s competitive events were not exactly fun for everyone involved. So, the 4v4 team known as SCUD is no more. We formed a new team called SPUF EU, consisting of myself, Confusion, Sham and Davjo, with Keith and Jensen as subs and newcomer w0lk joining the ranks. Last season, we finished off in 9th place in Euro Steel, with a somewhat okay score of 6-3. This… [Continue Reading]

SPUF does Competitive – 6v6 Week 1

Oh look, a new series of stuff! Yes, Confusion, Keith, Sham and I have been plotting something behind everyone’s back. Yes, we formed a 6v6 SPUF team. With Davjo (who you may or may not remember) and Wolk (who you definitely don’t know unless you’re Keith). I know, crazy, right? But we’re all totally game for this. We’re playing in EU Steel. Confusion had originally opted for Silver, I suggested Iron, we met in the middle. He didn’t want to have to deal with 1. rude Iron players and 2. Timmy, so he created the team. We’re SPUF EU, or… [Continue Reading]

Competitive Demoknights

There has been a large deal of discussion regarding Demoknight as of recently, most of which stems from the recent changes to the Tide Turner, overall the Tide Turner got people to take Demoknight seriously as a both a threat and an ally. Now there are multiple competitive formats in TF2. First up, Highlander, which is a 9v9 format where classes are restricted to one of each class per team. Next we have the 6v6 format which supports up to two of a class, (excluding a few people, who are limited to one) and involves dual Scouts, Soldiers and a single… [Continue Reading]

The Ghetto International: A Preview of the I52 LAN Event.

There are less than three weeks until the largest LAN competition Team Fortress 2 has ever had, and likely will ever have. For the past three months the focus of almost every top-level team in the world has been to prepare for I52, the one and only competition where the egotistical patriots, baguette eaters, tea drinkers, kangaroos and the occasional moose can face off at a LAN event. Epsilon Esports, Awsomniacs, Froyotech, Classic Mixup, Team Immunity, Fenneks and a wealth of lesser known European teams are all heading to Coventry, United Kingdom for Team Fortress’s own international.   The History… [Continue Reading]

What Use Are Friendly Disguises?

That above question has bugged me for years. Why would you disguise as something that does nothing but inspire the enemy to shoot you? I knew there must be a reason to it, else Valve wouldn’t have added it, but serious thought only produced “trigger Dead Ringer while looking like something else, so they don’t keep spychecking after that.” Which is a decent use (and clearly intended by Valve, as the fallen corpse will remain that of a non-spy enemy) but were there any more? Turns out that, after speaking to some spy friends of mine, the answer is yes.… [Continue Reading]

Subclass Birthday Bash Results!

Danthefinn’s Birthday Bash is over, and boy was that fun! I got to play Battle Medic on some hilariously kooky maps, and to my amazement, I found that I really liked the Syringe Gun. It’s actually a lot better then I thought at stacking up the damage if you just aim intelligently and know how to lead (and I think all that pulse-rifling in Loadout is what subconsciously prepared me for it). As someone who dropped a crossbow within minutes of playing TF2 and never looked back, this was quite a shock to discover. But enough of that, you just… [Continue Reading]

Birthday/500th Post/3-Star SPUF Event: Stupid Class, Stupid map, 6v6 Tournament!

Well hello, fine ladies and gentlemen of SPUF! My name is danthefinn (DiabetoDan on Steam) and I’ve been lurking around these parts since 2012. To celebrate my upcoming 18th birthday, as well as my 500th post and 3-star status, I’m hosting a little event on my very own TF2 server at 1 PM EST on June 16th. This will be a 6v6 tournament- but nothing like the 6v6 you all know and (at least some of you) love. This tournament will played over a series of 5 maps, with a best of 3 win rule. These maps will be the… [Continue Reading]

ESEA-Invite Season 16 Week 8 Standings and Playoff Scenarios

At the conclusion of Week 6, we only had one team eliminated from the playoff race. Week 7 brought crazy games, including the close upset of Exertus eSports over Classic Mixup on Sunshine. When the dust cleared, Classic Mixup had clinched their spot and three other teams were sent packing their bags. In the penultimate week of the season, we may see the final two LAN spots decided, with two teams comfortably in control of their own destiny and one needing a lot of help to get in.
