ACTUAL Training Weapons

Put that Rocket Jumper down. This article is designed to cover weapons that actually do the job of training somebody who hopes to get better with a class in TF2. These weapons encourage (or force) the player to learn things that translate well into regular loadouts, and don’t force the player to become reliant on them to do well. So put your Front Runners on, it’s training time! 1. Candy Cane. The Candy Cane is a depressingly low-poly melee weapon that grants Scout health kits on kill, at the cost of 25% explosive damage vulnerability. It’s this second half that… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s turn to talk about the removal of the Demoknight Turning Script

I’m sure none of you care any more, unless your name is Craylash or something, but I want to talk about how I, often the victim of the Demoknight (and everyone else of course) feel about the removal of the Demoknight Turning Script. Now, I am a very fair person. I have a strong sense of justice and I always say what I feel is right or wrong. Well, not always, but in this case, I’m saying so. And I’m going to put it right here: I feel that the Turning Scripts and Charge turning are unfair to their victims.… [Continue Reading]

TF2 vs. TFC: Who would win?

A long time ago I made a thread just for funsies, Who would win in a fight; the TF2 team or the TFC (Team Fortress Classic) team? After fifteen pages and several necros, the consensus appears to be: probably TFC, but both teams have a lot of pros and cons on their side of the table. So, without further ado, I’m going to look at each of the nine classes from TFC and TF2 and compare which outclasses his counterpart. There are obviously a myriad of other factors like grenades, random crits, unlocks, and bunnyhopping that would have to be… [Continue Reading]

Advice for Playing Greg

In honor of the newest comic revealing the name of the TFC Demoman, I thought I’d take this opportunity to write a guide on how to play him if you ever feel the need to give TFC a try and just embrace the grenades. Greg has so many explosive toys to play with I doubt you’ll even get a chance to try them all out in your first life before your uterus is wrapped around a tree at least ten yards away from your death’s epicenter. Just like in TF2, I main Medic and offclass Demoman,  so I’m significantly less… [Continue Reading]

TF2 What If? Det Jumper and Gunboats Demo

Evidently, making edits to the item text file in your TF2 folder allows one to play around with the stats of the various weapons.  Today, I experiment with two fairly commonly suggested/asked about weapons for Team Fortress, both specializing in mobility: A detonator jumper for pyro, and a gunboats-like grenade launcher replacement for the demoman. For the det jumper, I modded the entry for the detonator so it would have zero self-damage.  I tried it out on Viaduct with a bunch of bots.  Tecnically this detonator still damages other players, but for the test I only used it for jumping,… [Continue Reading]

Analysis of the Persian Persuader’s Health Regen

If I’m not using the Ullapool Caber or Pain Train, I’m using the Persian Persuader. Health regen is a great thing to have on the Demoman, and the Sticky Jumper synergies surprisingly well with the Persian because it doubles the health return you get from ammo. (I’ve mentioned this before). But I never really understood why. Finally, I got around to doing some testing to figure it out, and I learned that the Persian derives its health return from the amount of primary and secondary ammo on the wearer. (For these purposes, the Booties are considered a stock grenade launcher… [Continue Reading]

Hugging the Ground

One of the many, many reasons I have never gotten into Competitive TF2 is because I’ve always been the sort of person who can’t really get the hang of explosive jumping. I just overall suck at moving in a three dimensional space which is controlled by two dimensional movements. That sounds complicated, but it’s just a fancy way of saying that I’m crap. That’s me being harsh on myself. I’m an okay Medic. My dodging skills are quite good. My awareness is about average. My general skill level is about average. The one thing I cannot get a hang of,… [Continue Reading]

Countering the Gunslinger

SPUF has pretty much agreed: we hate the gunslinger. I am not going into a rant about whether it is overpowered or not – check any page of SPUF for that. Regardless of whether or not it is OP, it is still no fun to play against. But it can be countered by most classes without too much effort. Of course, you can always call a friend over to help you take it out, but sometimes you just have to do it yourself. The mini-sentry has 100 health and 48 DPS, which is formidable considering it is such a small… [Continue Reading]
