A Collaboration event with Ed Sheeran?

Collaborations in Pokemon GO are weird, and honestly quite neat. For example, in various countries, places like Starbucks have sponsored Pokestops. On the other hand, some players get sponsored balloons, that drop in and give you free stuff. And Pokemon GO has done a lot of collaboration with Japanese companies. There have also been events with other American companies too. Heck, we also have an entire dress-up category, where our in-game avatars can wear sponsored apparel. However, most of these sponsored events, items, and all that, they are all very… corporate. A bare minimum in the hope of selling a… [Continue Reading]

Ultra Time was Great, Ultra Space was not

After GO Fest, there’s always some sort of Ultra event. The U-shaped Unown appears in raids and there’s an unusual theme surrounding the event. This year, after GO Fest 2021, players ‘unlocked’ three Ultra events. The first was Time, the second was Space and the third was randomly Gen 8 stuff. As events go, the Ultra Time and Space events were rather similar. But it’s clear as day that one event was better than the other. The big difference are in the wild spawns Time Week’s wild spawns were great. We had a mixture of actually useful wild Pokemon. Fossil… [Continue Reading]

A Feeling of “What now?” in Pokemon GO

So, GO Fest has been and gone. It was two days of fun for me, I had a great time. However, as the event ended on Sunday, I had a weird feeling in the back of my head. That feeling faded over night, but came back in full force on Monday morning. That feeling was simple. “What now?” GO Fest was a little too much fun GO Fest was so fun that I got sun-burnt. On day 1 alone, I walked like 10km back and forth (I hatched 5 2km eggs on day 1), and we probably managed a good… [Continue Reading]

Somehow a Team Rocket-Themed Event is Bad?

Followers of the Daily SPUF will probably recognize two things about me. Firstly, I use a yellow Volt a lot. But secondly, I really like Team Rocket fights in Pokemon GO. There is something cathartic about kicking grunts in the groin and stealing their Pokemon. Wait… that’s what they’re supposed to be doing to us. Either way though, grunt fights are fun, and I always enjoy events that spawn more of them. However, the Luminous Legends Y event has me questioning that. Somehow, this Team Rocket event is bad. Actually, that sentence is wrong in two ways. Firstly, this isn’t… [Continue Reading]

What’s New in Planetside 2

Every couple years or so I feel the need to boot Planetside 2 back up, just to see what’s changed in Steam’s pre-eminent Spandex in Space Simulator. Last time they added orbital air strikes and the whole construction minigame. This time around, nothing that drastic seems to have newly entered the fray. But there is one very-obvious addition you’ll see the first time you spawn into the map. New Neutral Spaceship! There’s now an orbiting spaceship called Sanctuary. It serves as a hub for all four factions to commingle peacefully before queueing into the active continent to murder each other.… [Continue Reading]

There’s No Reason Why Smeargle Can’t Be Shiny Any More

The Pokemon Snap event came and went in Pokemon GO. It was nothing special. Yet another timed research and a handful of spawns. Most  of the spawns weren’t particularly interesting. At least, not if you weren’t hunting for shinies. And even then, some of the spawns weren’t shiny-eligible at all, namely Metapod and Dodrio. Annoyingly, we couldn’t have had Caterpie or Doduo spawning as well. The one standout part of this event was the fact that Smeargle could be shiny. “Wait, Smeargle is in Pokemon GO?” Yeah, this seems strange, especially since Kecleon is STILL missing after all these years.… [Continue Reading]

How I would have done a Sustainability Event in Pokemon GO

A couple of weeks ago, we had a Sustainability event in Pokemon GO. As part of a sustainability campaign by Niantic, all its games are getting events. Mostly to raise awareness, I think. Now, I don’t play Wizards Unite or Ingress Prime, but I do play Pokemon GO. And I can tell you this: the event was kinda boring. And it didn’t really raise awareness. But it’s not hard to have made this event more interesting. So here’s how we’ll do it. First off, a summary of the actual Sustainability Week. There wasn’t much to it. Some Pokemon in raids.… [Continue Reading]

Please Calm Down With the Bunnies

Last weekend was Easter. Well, for most people, it was Easter. For me, it’s not Easter until the end of the month, due to Orthodos Christianity being… like that. But for everyone else, it was Easter. So that means everyone else has to have some sort of Easter-themed event. So of course Pokemon GO had an Easter event, even if it’s not specifically called an Easter event. Spring into Spring brought everyone’s favourite Easter-like things. I mean, it’s not a not-Easter-but-still-Easter-related event without eggs and bunnies and stuff, right? The collection thing is back as well, with a bunch of… [Continue Reading]

All These Pokemon GO Events are Kinda The Same

Okay, so, over the last few weeks, we’ve been having events. That’s not much of a surprise, really. Events basically happen weekly now, all the time. In fact, Pokemon GO is made up of more events than normal spawns. But there’s something odd about the last three events. They’ve… all… kinda been the same… To be fair, there’s only so much you can do to make events seem different. There’s only so many new Pokemon and shinies you can add. And you can’t just keep on giving everything new moves and releasing more and more Pokemon, because, well, there’s money… [Continue Reading]

I Really, Really Want a Break From Kanto Pokemon

I was kinda hoping that, with the Kanto Celebration ending, we’d get a bit of a break from Kanto Pokemon. There’s 151 of them, making it one of the bigger regions with the most Pokemon. Out of the Pokedexes in Pokemon GO, only Unova beats out Kanto, with 156 Pokemon. That being said, there’s at least 300 Pokemon in other regions, and none of them get a look in. It’s… getting silly. Despite this event ending, we’re still getting Kanto Pokemon. Having a look at the upcoming March events, there’s STILL a heavy lean on Kanto Pokemon. Sure, we are… [Continue Reading]
