Beloved Daily SPUF Redirect URL Shutting Down, Millions in Mourning

If our fair blog were a TF2 playstyle, he’d be a roamer. A while back we switched from spufblog.com to blog.spuf.info, and left the old URL as a redirect that aabicus was paying 18 dollars a year to keep running. Well, it didn’t seem that useful so we’re closing it down. If you don’t interact with the “spufblog.com” URL, this won’t affect you, and really this won’t affect the visible blog in any way. So if you need to, check and update your bookmarks; the old URL was on the first page of the SPUF megathread for some time.

January 7th – January 14th

Whooee…really big week, this one is. Probably because it’s one of the first weeks of the new year, and Valve has returned from their end-of-the-year vacation ready to go fix some bugs. On January 7th, 2008 Valve patched one of the signature glitches exploited by legendary griefers Team Roomba: Jumping into the Well door as it opened let a scout lock the door partially shut, preventing teammates from escaping the spawn room. Here are some highlights from one of their videos: The same time Valve also fixed another Well exploit where Soldiers, Demomen and Engineers could reach the roof in… [Continue Reading]

In Memory of Itsurblog 2

Urblog thread 2: The Revenge was the next in a duology of wildly successful blog threads on SPUF, both started by Zekrom3112, who must have some sort of voodoo magic for getting away with it twice. It once again has been locked, and unlike last time I’m not sure why. I was surprised when I went to the last page of itsurblog 2 and noticed that every post was TF2-related. The mods didn’t even put it out of its misery like the dongers/neontext/Lenny-faced ending of itsurblog 1. It was calm, rational, and conversational TF2 to the last post. I really… [Continue Reading]

RIP Permanent Color-Shifting Spell Paint (2012-2013)

Today, we mourn the loss of our beloved hue-changing beauties, as the TF2 community is forced to return to the world of monochromatic monotony that is normal paint. Spell enthusiasts new and old have had their favorite cosmetic toy taken from them in what could be considered the worst possible way to handle the entire situation (explained further below). My losses include my once painstakingly-perfected Goldier, pictured below, as well as his Festive and Haunted variants meant for such illustrious occasions as the Christmas season (or infrequent snow map), Halloween, and Full Moons.

The Crusader’s Crossbow is now the least viable Medic primary

After a mere 48 hours of giving us the perfect Crusader’s Crossbow, Valve followed up by nerfing it’s damage by 33%. As someone who has spent hundreds of hours perfecting my skill with this weapon, and considers it my favorite weapon in TF2, let me say that the weapon is now useless. Let me rehash the same reasons I enjoyed the previous crossbow and show how none of them apply any more.

The Sticky Jumper has been nerfed

Valve had a small update on September 16th, where some unimportant stuff happened. When I first scrolled through the sparse update notes, seeing ‘bug fixes’ on item descriptions of cosmetic items, I was already thinking, whatever, it’s another one of those updates, nothing to see here. Then I read: “Updated The Sticky Jumper to only allow 2 active stickybombs at a time” Now, needless to say I’m not the only one saddened by this balance move. This innocuous training weapon has sent SPUF into a whirlwind of protest, defense, and general bewilderment. As one user put it, “Why is half… [Continue Reading]

In memory of “The thread that itsurblog”

Friends, yesterday a great sadness fell upon the denizens of SPUF. A mainstay in the TF2 forum, a juggernaut of Biblical tendencies, a wretched hive of scum and villainy, is gone. The thread that itsurblog has been locked. At 5,843 replies, the thread far surpassed anything the TF2 forum had ever seen in its mere three months of life. It had a thriving community of its own and a long history of discussion. It housed character role-plays, thriving discussions on games and pop culture, erotic slash pairings of the regular posters, and on the rare occasion, something about Team Fortress… [Continue Reading]

A Tale of Two Saws

We here at spufblog pride ourselves on keeping our daily articles relevant and balanced between all nine of Team Fortress 2‘s classes, and I’d say that this week’s articles are shining examples of that. Let’s see…we had article about the Sticky Jumper….followed by an announcement about “Demoman vs. Demoknights,” followed by an analysis about Demomen vs. Demoknights…followed by a break-down of the Demoknight’s Half-Zatoichi… Okay, at this point you’re probably pretty positive I’ve never played anything but demoman. But that isn’t true, actually he’s not even my main. I consider myself a Medic. Problem is, I haven’t played him recently… [Continue Reading]
