TF2 update, 12/03/15

So, we’ve actually had a TF2 update. First off… THE CRIT GUNSLINGER BUG HAS BEEN PATCHED. Yeah. Only took them since the Gunslinger was made to fix that. In other news, the Strange Kritzkrieg was re-released, but the chance of unboxing one is the same as the chance of unboxing an unusual. We also got a Strange Buff Banner, Strange Cloak and Dagger and Strange Bison. Interesting. A couple of bug fixes here and there too. This update announces the start of the Taunt Workshop, so people can finally submit all their taunts, the same way they do hats. Three… [Continue Reading]

March 10th – 16th

March 13, 2009 saw Valve tackle the recently-added Sandman, which some people thought was hideously overpowered. This update’s laughable tweaks didn’t fix any of the major problems and the weapon could look forward to a much more severe nerfing in August. March 10 2011 brought “The First Ever Three-Way Pack Update!” as the Shogun Pack brought new weapons to the Scout, Soldier, and Demoman, because those were totally the classes that needed more weapons at this point. All of the items in the pack were modeled by Larolaro, who also made the Tank Buster set. The next day (which is also… [Continue Reading]

March 2nd – March 9th

Been a while since I did one of these, eh? Well, since real time has finally caught up to how far I’d gotten along the timeline, I thought I could take this opportunity to try and keep something of a real regular schedule going. March 5th, 2009 saw a number of limits placed on ‘ducking’, aka crouching. A timer was enabled to prevent spamming of the ability while running and a cap was placed preventing the player from crouching more than once in air. This got changed the next day and Sniper mains are unhappy with it to this day. They… [Continue Reading]

Why Smissmas 2014 was disappointing(to me)

I think End of the Line unified the Team Fortress 2 community somewhat: It is almost universally accepted as one of the worst updates in TF2 history. But to me, personally, 2014 brought another, much more disappointing update. And no, it’s not Scream Fortress: It’s actually Smissmas. Why? Well, let’s put it this way: I had exactly zero expectations for End of the Line. Following the statements form McVee saying we’d be lucky if we got 3 weapons, and that they were testing one(which was released during Love & War), and remembering how Robotic Boogaloo went, I thought End of… [Continue Reading]

Fun things about the Grappling Hook

I’ll be frank, I don’t like Mann Power, because it utterly sucks if you’re not one of the 9 people with a power up. You just get your backside handed to you unless you’re clearly skilled enough to outplay them. But on the other hand, the Grappling Hook, the second stock all-class action item after the Spellbook Magazine, is tons of fun. Why? Because everyone can use it whenever they want, as long as the server allows it. And I, being the antisocial offline player that I am, decided to experiment round with it. First off, to enable the hook,… [Continue Reading]

The Tide Turner nerf is far too harsh.

Under the recent compound backlash that Valve went through after the End of the Line update, I honestly cannot blame them for hastily assembling anything that would resemble new content, regardless of a new mode, unfinished in beta, or even if that new grenade launcher’s model was sitting around in the workshop for at least a year. (Regardless of which, it is still a very pretty launcher.) Among the crowd pleasing game changes, there will be an inevitable trampling of a subset of players who are complained about. I represent the entirety of that subset. Or at least the people… [Continue Reading]

Demoman got nerfed, but FAIRLY this time! – Smissmas 2014

After EotL, there wasn’t much hope in the TF2 community. But Valve brought a small amount of hope back with the 2014 Smissmas update. And what did it contain? Those promised Demoman changes from the Love and War update! You all remember that, right? The changes that broke him and made Engineers run rampant that they thankfully reversed? This time round, Valve actually thought about it AND listened to the community! First off, here’s the patch notes. I warn you now, it’s a biggie! All Players who play TF2 during the event will receive a Gift: a Stuffed Stocking! Stockings… [Continue Reading]

End of the Hype: An Update Worth Railing Against

You guys wanna know something? Prior to End of the Line’s recent release, I hadn’t cared much one way or the other about the update for months. The preview version of the map I’d played with some friends didn’t seem particularly interesting, and the Love and War update had ended the weapon drought that made us so greatly anticipate EotL’s arrival in the first place. Yet, despite all of the feelings and expectations I DIDN’T have, the End of the Line update still managed to make me feel complete and utter contempt toward whatever part of Valve is in charge of TF2. For… [Continue Reading]

I Understand, I Really Do…

Right now, people are angry. For the first time in, well, ever, the majority of players in the Team Fortress 2 community, at least the ones with access to any sort of tool of discussion, are united with the same thought in mind. That thought is “Man, EotL was a rather lame update.” For now, I am going to ignore the various promises and stuff that were thrown up. Let’s just leave that. Now, normally I am a optimistic, middle-of-the-road person. My complaints are generally justified, as is whatever it is I am agreeing with. I’m not normally someone who… [Continue Reading]

The End of the Line Is Here

So, after three weeks of crates and a year of hype, the End of the Line, the second Community Update after Robotic Boogaloo, has finally, FINALLY arrived. Finally. What’s in this fancy update, you ask? Let’s count. The fancy, voiceless 14 minute video, the End of the Line, featuring a train with a bomb on it and Scout as always. 21 cosmetics, as seen in the End of the Line video. A variant of the sitting Pyro taunt. Something to do with ducks. Four new unusual effects. One multi-class weapon. Keys for those crates we’ve been deleting over the last 3… [Continue Reading]
