Arena_Granary and why I hate it despite liking its counterparts

Everyone loves Granary, right? No? Oh. Some people love Granary, right? Either way, it’s a favourite for the competitive players out there, as it’s got lots of high and low ground, it’s not too hard to defend and other stuff which I don’t really get. But back in the day, there was also Arena_Granary. Like a couple of other maps, particularly Badlands, Granary was converted into an arena map for the release, of, well, Arena mode. Of course, Arena mode never really got going. People got frustrated with waiting forever to respawn, especially if there was a Spy hiding with… [Continue Reading]

Poor Unloved TFC Pyro

So what if every weapon in Pyro’s arsenal is rubbish. So what if TFC afterburn deals 2 ticks of damage for 4 ticks, a grand total of EIGHT damage before extinguishing itself. So what if napalm grenades are the only explosive grenades in TFC with lower damage output than regular hand grenades. You know what the pyro has that nobody else has? Personality. TFC Pyro is the only class in the game with idle animations! Occasionally, he’ll sweep his hand lovingly across the top of his flamethrower, or fiddle with the sighting reticule of his Incendiary cannon. He clearly loves… [Continue Reading]

Helpful things you probably already know about SPUF

You’d think that, being someone with over 10000 posts on SPUF, people like me and aabicus would know all the ins and outs of a forum like SPUF. Except we don’t. For ages, we didn’t know how you find out who gave you rep and stuff like that. So here are some lovely little tips for you so you don’t get as confused as us. Editing the title of your thread What’s that? Made a typo in the title of your thread? Tried editing it in the Edit Post section but it didn’t work? There’s a solution! Yes, seriously. Turns… [Continue Reading]

Playable 8-Bit Team Fortress 2!

If Team Fortress Classic isn’t retro enough for you, you need to try out Gang Garrison 2! Taking the other approach to being an old-fashioned TF2, GG2 takes the core concepts of our favorite team-based shooter and renders it in lovable 8-Bit form. All nine classes are present and playable, as are a number of the maps you’ve played and love. Rather tongue-in-cheekly, most of the names in TF2 have been changed to alternates, so you play it on Smoke sponsored by Faucet Studios, and your class choices include Firebug, Healer, and Constructor. The aiming style takes a bit of… [Continue Reading]

Evolution of the Spy

Let’s face it; TF2 is very old in video game terms, especially for a multiplayer FPS. It’s been going strong for almost seven years now, even though in the last two years Valve has been winding down on updates and general attention-giving to it in favor of DOTA 2, their new moneymaker, as well as their own console and probably some super-secret projects with their names written in indecipherable coding which just translates to “HL3”. In these seven years, TF2 has gained a fanbase and with that, people have learned things about the game and its classes, and how to… [Continue Reading]

How to deal with stupid Medics

You’ve had the same nightmare Medics, haven’t you? You’ve seen them. You must have seen them. Everyone’s seen them, whether they’ve been fighting people of the opposite colour, fighting hordes of robots or fighting a single, over-powered boss with thousands of hit points. You know what they’re like. All they do is heal one person, generally a Heavy. They refuse to spread heals around and take forever to deploy a single Uber, which they drop most of the time. If they’re not healing their Heavy friend, they turn into a Battle Medic and try to syringe things before rejoining their… [Continue Reading]

Playing Dell’s father (possibly)

Is the Team Fortress Classic engineer Dell’s father? Personally, I’m unsure. It would be cool to think that missing link between Radigan and Dell Conagher was also a Mann-employed combat engineer, but on the other hand that means Dell is about to fight his father in the coming comics. But even if he’s not related biologically to Dell Conagher, the TFC Engineer is definitely related in gameplay. They are very, very similar. The first thing aspiring TF2 migrants are going to have to terms with is the upgrading process. Here it is: You need to put all 200 metal into… [Continue Reading]

The Civilian:That Which Doesn’t Kill You Probably Missed

The life of a Civilian is short and terrified. With half as many health points as a Scout (only 50), no armor and the entire enemy team composed entirely of Sniper rifles, the Civilian must be handled with a completely different mindset from any other class. Be paranoid, be timid, and don’t move forward until its very clear that your bodyguards have cleared the next stage of the map out for you. Let me back up a bit, in case you haven’t tried or heard of TFC’s Escort game mode before. Unique in Team Fortress history (at least until MvM… [Continue Reading]

I Wrote an Article About The Chargin’ Targe

Oh wait, no I didn’t, but boy howdy, everyone else sure did! I haven’t been playing this game for that long (coming up on my three year anniversary this June), but I can say that I’ve never really seen more people upset over something in this game being changed. A lot of folks I’ve seen out there have drawn analogues to Valve’s recent changes to the Demo shields, with their Sticky Jumper nerf. And, I’ll admit, when I saw those Sticky Jumper patch notes, I was a little bit like: But I quickly got over it. So I can’t jump… [Continue Reading]

Sandviches for (not quite) everyone!

The Sandvich is overpowered. It allows one of the easier classes to play in the game to hide around a corner and heal himself or, worse, heal his team mates while he continues to tank damage and do massive damage in return. But here’s a thought, how would the Sandvich work on other classes? We’ll start with utility classes and work our way back. Of course, every class can benefit from what is essentially a free health pack, but since you have to taunt to use it, how effective would it be on every class? Spies, who are normally sneaking… [Continue Reading]
