Less Sure About Gun Mettle Changes as Time Goes On

I’ve never exactly had a positive relationship with the new CSGO-style weapon skins in TF2, but at best my opinion was neutral. They weren’t exactly hurting anything, and they were strictly cosmetic. I also supported the new weapon pickup mechanic, as I describe in this article. But as I play more TF2, mainly because my Christmas desktop is badass enough to allow me to do so on high settings, I’m finding that both of these mechanics are annoying me far more than they’re endearing themselves. The new skins are really bothering my weapon recognition. Now, at the moment you can… [Continue Reading]

The Ullapool got Cabered

So I was playing on sd_doomsday, as I am wont to do, attempting to revitalize my old Sticky Jumper spark. For a weapon that hasn’t changed, it’s amazing how different it feels having to play with the new roster of available melee weapons. ‘Head Launcher‘ my beloved Persian Persuader is still deceased and all of the swords have become less attractive with the new draw times. My other favorite the Scotsman’s Skullcutter is still too slow and sets my teeth gnashing every time I die because my Demoman was taking his sweet time switching to it. When you’re switching to your… [Continue Reading]

Carpet-bombing with the Iron Bomber

Demoman for the longest time was my least-played class, and for good reason. While classes like Soldier and Heavy do tons of damage even at low skill levels, good luck actually ever hitting anything if you intend to do the same as Demoman. He is an unusual class, with a deceptively high skill ceiling. The days of Left-Click-Right-Click-BOOM are a thing of the past. And since I already play one intense, deceptively hard class that everyone relies on, I never really fancied taking on another. That has changed. I’ve been edging towards playing more Demoman for ages, sick and tired… [Continue Reading]

The Only Weapon Removed From TF2

I know I already wrote an article on this, but the Persian Persuader has become the first weapon removed from Team Fortress 2. I’ve searched my memory banks and the TF2 Wiki and I’m almost positive the Tough Break Persian Persuader is the first weapon ever to have every single one of its stats removed and replaced with new ones. (I’m not counting the generic sword stats that every bladed Demoknight melee shares, those are inherent in the classification.) For comparison, we went from this: +100% increase in charge recharge rate All ammo collected becomes health Cannot pick up ammo To… [Continue Reading]

Dawnguard Snipin’ – Part 5

Ya know what, mate? This is gonna be a long trip, I can feel it. Longer than even last time maybe. But now I’ve read those stupid scrolls, we know where we’re going for a change. As we walk, stupid vampire girl and I stumble across a dragon nest. Been here before, but this time, something was different… I ain’t got no idea what’s happened here. That’s a dragon. Apparently. I ain’t got a clue, mate. We back away slowly from that horrible thing and continue walking towards our destination. It’s some cave on the edge of the country. Lots… [Continue Reading]

An Advice Article for Academic Aptitude

Recently Medic created a new column called “And Now For Something Completely Different”, and I thought I’d throw my hat into that arena by writing an article composed mainly of tips I gave my brother after making through the American school system. Don’t worry though, this advice is pretty universal and basically deals with tricks I learned to improve my grades in school while putting in as little actual work as possible. 1. If you’re allowed to, take important tests multiple times. I’m talking mainly about aptitude tests where higher scores will look better when you try to attract schools… [Continue Reading]

On Rambling Bohrok

In a recent article, I noted that a lot of my, um, knowledge in writing comes from running a writing forum. But my writing career started by writing Bionicle fan-fiction. Bionicle fan-fiction is actually rather different from most other fan-fiction, as only 80% of it is shit, the other 20% isn’t that bad and some of that 20% eventually gets made into canon when judged by BZPower moderator Bonesiii (the only person to know more about Bionicle than the creators of Bionicle’s lore) in contests. Alright, the sexy romance stuff (even MY pseudo-romance stuff) is always shit unless it’s Hewkii… [Continue Reading]

Why I like TESV:Skyrim

I love Skyrim. Right now, it’s competing with Garry’s Mod as to which game deserves more of my attention, and Skyrim is winning by a mile. Why though? I’m not normally a fan of RPGs or even single player games. Most of the games I’ve played are multiplayer games with a single player mode on the side, or they’re really old games for Playstation One and Two. Skyrim’s actually one of the more unusual, yet somehow more stereotypical games in my played library. By stereotypical, I mean, almost everyone likes Skyrim. The people who don’t are generally people who feel… [Continue Reading]

The New Vaccinator

During Tough Break, Valve reworked the Vaccinator again. As a Medic main, I felt it was my duty to try the thing out so I can see for myself if the poor thing has finally reached the lofty echelons of the other mediguns, or if it still sucked. I first tried it out on King of The Hill, a game mode that lets me quickly switch from offense to defense. I found that it served its job decently well in both categories. If I were taking on a single enemy with my pocket, I could easily switch to the correct… [Continue Reading]

Five reasons why I’m not pre-ordering Overwatch

Everyone’s going on about Overwatch. Me? I’m pissed off. Mostly because I missed the open-to-all Beta weekend, because that was the one weekend I didn’t have stable internet. Typical. Still, I’ve been watching Overwatch and I do really like the look of it, and I think Valve will have to step up their game if they want TF2 to be able to keep up. That being said, I won’t be pre-ordering the game any time soon. Here’s why. 5. I don’t feel as if it’s worth $30 right now. Overwatch being a mostly multiplayer game is good and all, but… [Continue Reading]
