Why I’m Bothered By The New Medigun-Dropping Mechanic

It’s actually not very often that me and aabicus disagree on things, but somehow we’ve found something to argue about. Possibly. It’s not really arguing, more like politely putting down our opinions and compromising with one another. I don’t think we’ve ever really argued. But the sudden implementation of Medi Guns keeping Uber when dropped is certainly something to discuss between two Medic players who spend a lot of time running a blog together. Weapon switching does very much spice up the meta, which, when you look at it competitively, often gets very stale. Heck, even Valve servers get stale… [Continue Reading]

Holy shit this is the 800th article.

Bloody hell. The time has flown! Seriously it feels like a few weeks ago that we celebrated our 700th article. And I spent most of that article writing about how much I love you all and how I can’t live without you all and all that sort of stuff. I guess I kinda have to do the same for this article, but eh… Thing is, lately, it’s been pretty rough for both me and aabicus. Dear old Aaby has had spouse-based health issues, job-issues and house issues, while I’ve been taking on all the responsibility of running the family… [Continue Reading]

4v4 – Fun but not serious, sadly

Week 8 of the UGC 4v4 season has come to a close, and we all breathe a sigh of relief as we thank some Deity that we don’t need to play against platinum and gold players any more. It was a lot of fun. Team SPUF (Special Party of Underrated Failures) finished the season 3-4, winning 3 rounds by forfeit and getting kinda rolled in the 4 matches we lost. And by kinda, I mean completely. But I can’t blame us for losing. We had to play against genuinely hard teams. Every single team we actually played against was UGC… [Continue Reading]

6v6 – I might as well play Highlander…

Well, my first ever 6v6 season is finally over, and good fucking riddance. We won a single match, and that was at the beginning of the season, on Viaduct_pro, a really easy map. Every other match was either a forfeit or a complete steam roll. It really is not much fun, unless everyone’s dedicated on improving and is willing to scrim a billion times a week. Sixes is far too meta-y for my liking. “But Medic, what do you mean by it being meta-y?” I hear all three of you ask. Simple. If you don’t go along with the two… [Continue Reading]

The Short End of the Stick

Gun Mettle came, Gun Mettle saw, Gun Mettle conquered and then got you to spend a ton of money on crap. At least, that’s the case if you have been playing Medic throughout this update. Medics got the short end of the stick, almost as much as Engineers. But unlike Engineers, Medics didn’t really see it coming. I’ll be blunt, Engineers have had it coming for a very long time. The Short Circuit, the Wrangler, the Gunslinger. All weapons that were hated almost everywhere by competent players. Engineer has always been a speed bump of sorts, but before Gun Mettle… [Continue Reading]

Mann Up is incredibly underwhelming…

If you’re pestered enough, eventually you’ll try something. Like Mann Up for example. After a complete roflstomp of the worst kind, part of the SPUF 6v6 team decided to team up with my sister Nommykins (last seen playing Sniper in Arena Respawn) and actually play a game of Mann Up. I created the party, and since we were all feeling very, very, well, meh and it was already getting late, I selected an advanced mission on Coaltown. We finished the mission with ease (and only one wave being redone because I forgot to buy Kritz canteens) then rolled our eyes… [Continue Reading]

“Where have you been sending it?” and other thoughts about Expiration Date

Welp, it’s been over a year since Expiration Date and the Love and War update in general was released. I know I should be looking at the Gun Mettle update, but I just don’t find it as interesting as the Love and War update. Gun Mettle came with a comic and a bunch of cosmetics and balance changes, Love and War came with a short movie, a bunch of weapons and some minor balance changes. It came with lore. Gun Mettle just had a stupid story involving Miss Pauling and Saxton Hale, and honestly I’m kinda sick of the pair… [Continue Reading]

Medic does Competitive… or not…

At the start of UGC season 5 of 4v4 and season 18 of 6v6, I had a plan. The plan was to document my time playing through two seasons. It’d be full of ups and downs, interesting things and stuff I learned. The story of a Medic going from pub server nobody to competitive game nobody. And a bit of fun. As you can plainly see, that hasn’t happened. Originally, the reason I stopped writing was because I didn’t really want to write about our awful 6v6 losses. 6v6 was supposed to be the main focus of the series of… [Continue Reading]

Being a nice person in video games

I’m a paradox. Or maybe I’m a hypocrite. I really don’t know. I have a lot of feelings about myself that I should probably get rid of. Feelings of self-loathing. I hate myself. But at the same time, all of you online people seem to think I’m a really nice guy*. I think I’ve only ever had a few people say they genuinely hate me, and even then it’s for really weird reasons, like “forcing your fake medic shit down our throats” and stuff like that. I bet if they had a gimmicky username, they’d abuse the hell out of… [Continue Reading]

What the KOTH?

I love me some King of the Hill. It’s a very simple game mode, it’s seen in a lot of games. The concept is incredibly basic, you hold a specific area until time runs down or a certain event happens. KOTH maps are generally smaller than your average map and can fit anything from 8 to 18 players. KOTH also gets played in almost all competitive forms apart from dodgeball and basketball. It gets played in Ultiduo, 4v4, 6v6 and Highlander! Alright, not so much in the latter two, but seriously everyone, koth_Viaduct_pro is carrying all the weight. Good map,… [Continue Reading]
