Retrospective 2, or what little I saw of it…

Retrospective 2 is a TF2 tournament, more like one we’d recognise, with eliminations and things like that. Normally, I see all these things advertised on the News section of the Team Fortress 2 website and I don’t honestly pay much attention to them. They’re tournaments I’m not skilled enough to play in, or they’re LANs which I’ll never be able to play in, or it’s an announcement about ETF2L. That’s pretty much it. I wouldn’t have given Retrospective 2 any further thought if it wasn’t for W0lk, the SPUF 6v6 roamer and 4v4… thing… asking me about it. You see,… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Opinions on the new Decorated Weapons

Meh. Lots and lots of meh. Okay, let’s be somewhat serious here and have an actual conversation about all of these dramatic changes that have suddenly appeared in TF2. It’s clear as day that hats no longer sell. So Valve has turned to weapons and taunts, things that people do actually see, even while they’re killing people. Hats were going to have to die down at some point, we have over 1000 of them, not all of them technically hats, but still, that’s a lot. There’s not enough backpack space to actually own every hat in the game. So here… [Continue Reading]

Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata

Satoru Iwata died on July 11th 2015, aged. He was Nintendo’s global president and one of the heavy hitters, keeping Nintendo afloat and making sure we, the gamers, no matter who we are or how old we are, were happy. In his brief 55 years on this planet, he did a LOT for gaming. My words here simply won’t do Iwata justice, so I’ll simply leave you with one of his quotes. “Above all, video games are meant to just be one thing: Fun for everyone.” I think he achieved that. Rest in peace.

Arena Respawn – Not at all serious fun

On Saturday 11th of July, Confusion hosted the SPUF Arena Respawn event with some help from Sham and Davjo and I got to try out Arena Respawn for the first time. Now, I’m a bit of a purist, I like things unmodded in TF2. Plus, Arena was my original game mode after 24/7 Junction, and I was quite good at it, particularly the Arena-only maps that no one else really plays. Not great, since I’ve always been bad at Deathmatching, but I’ve played safe and strategically and also know when to go “who gives a fuck”. So let’s have a… [Continue Reading]

On Reputation

SPUF is what one would call a forum or a bulletin board. Steam Community User Discussions (SCUD) is less of a bulletin board, more of a discussion board – it is a very trimmed down version of your standard forum software. Reddit is, well, um, something else. A strange, messy thing that has really taken off. Then you have a combination of the two, a bit like the League of Legends ‘boards’. Many forums just have basic features. You can make a thread. You can reply to threads. If you’re lucky there’s a personal message system. Some allow you to… [Continue Reading]

Glitched Weapons

Along with all the cosmetic stuff and weapon balances and all that, the Gun Mettle update brought with it a HUGE amount of glitches and bugs and all sorts of stuff, some of which may or may not be fixed *cough*dropped Medi Guns holding Uber*cough*. A lot of bugs have already been fixed, but it’s worth going over some of them anyway, because why not? Sadly, I couldn’t get many pictures of these bugs, since I’m an idiot who fails to press the screenshot button quickly enough these days. The first and probably worst bug that’s popped up is the… [Continue Reading]

GEOFF, NOOOOOO!

GEOFF! NO, WHAT HAPPENED? SPEAK TO ME, GEOFF, SPEAK TO ME! KEEP YOUR EYES ON ME, GEOFF! WE’RE LOSING HIM! HE’S FLATLINING… We’ve lost him. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m referring to the Vaccinator. The Fourth Medi Gun. The one that is now dead. I know Medi Guns can’t die, as they’re not alive*, but the Vaccinator has been driven into complete uselessness. Okay, the original Vaccinator, when it was released, wasn’t exactly helpful. It charged incredibly fast, but because critical resistances weren’t factored into the three resistance types as a whole, it didn’t see much… [Continue Reading]

Stupidly Simple Fixes – Part 2

A note before I start: these are just ideas and thoughts, both my own and combined with other people’s thoughts, particularly SPUFers. Do me a favour and don’t take them as absolutes or anything. Should have put this at the top of the previous article, really. And probably should have published this before the Gun Mettle update, but oh well. Bad timing and all that. Still, I like my ideas better. Anyway, considering that Valve hasn’t really been doing much lately when it comes to balance changes, I’ve decided to take things into my own hands and try and fix… [Continue Reading]

Three Hundred Articles of Spufiness

This is my 300th published article on this blog. Or about that, I’m not 100% sure, I just know that I’ve got approximately 300 articles published. Considering that we’re nearing 800 articles (I KNOW, RIGHT?), that’s pretty impressive. Of course, aabicus has written a lot of articles too, but he had a head start by, you know, creating this blog. Then again, I just checked and he’s for 224 articles total. That’s over 500 articles about Team Fortress 2 and other related video games. Written by two people in their free time. Then another 200 or so articles written by… [Continue Reading]
