A little heart to heart

With all my assignments and upcoming mid-terms, as well as a workload designed to produce the best graduates by killing off whoever that can’t survive working 18 hours a day, I wasn’t going to write an article this weekend. However, one day while lurking on the Daily SPUF post on … well, SPUF, I saw this: I realized, after a bunch of hat-related posts, I didn’t really introduce who I was aside from being a hat-loving TF2 player, or just a stereotypical TF2 player to most people. Sorry about that, I suppose that’s kinda rude. However, before I do that, I suppose… [Continue Reading]

Mask of the Shaman

First up, I just want to make it clear: I really like the Mask of the Shaman.   Now that I established that fact and my TF2 cosmetic hipster cred, let’s move on. The Mask of the Shaman was added in an unnamed July 2011 patch as a promotional item for the game From Dust. Less than a week later, a patch replaced the old model with the one we know and most of us hate today. There is a very good reason this cosmetic is unpopular within the community. It’s a weird plaster slab with plastic strips sticking out… [Continue Reading]

Spectre’s Spectacles

The Spectre’s Spectacles was added during the Manniversary Update and Sale. To be honest, I doubt people actually noticed this misc since it’s released alongside some really fun cosmetics like the Ball-Kicking Boots and the Flair!, which is one of the most enthusiastic cosmetic names I’ve seen so far because of the exclamation mark at the end. In fact, I doubt people will notice this cosmetic anyway because it’s just so damn small. I bought this myself pretty much just to complete a loadout. It’s not something most people will actively look for to wear. I can completely describe this cosmetic… [Continue Reading]

Another look at Fashionframe

A while back, I rambled on about Fashionframe, the cosmetic minigame everyone secretly plays as they run around killing things as gaudy space ninjas. And why shouldn’t they? There is so much customization that the only similar-looking frames you see are brand new MR0 players who have just picked up the game, running around in default Excaliburs and Volts. But the thing is, cosmetics can be expensive. Your average standard Syandana (i.e. cape) will cost you between 50 and 100 platinum. Your average colour palette will cost you 75 platinum. Most armour sets cost 100 platinum and those that come… [Continue Reading]

Slipping into flip-flops

Since these two cosmetics are rather similar, I’ll be talking about them together. Today’s article will be about the Flip-Flops for the Scout and the Aqua Flops for the Heavy. The Flip-Flops are a pair of bright yellow flip-flops for Scout, and is available for purchase during the Summer Camp Sale in 2011 along with another Scout exclusive the Lucky No. 42 and the all-class Summer Hat. The Aqua Flops made its debut a year later in the Mecha Update along with Carl and Hunger Force as a reference to the Adult Swim character Carl Brutananadilewski. The Aqua Flops are based off the… [Continue Reading]

Upcoming Overwatch and Payday Halloween events!

Today was a big day for gaming announcements! Over on the Payday subreddit, players were able to discover leaks suggesting that new weapons, DLCs, heisters, maps, and difficulties were coming to Payday 2. Yes, that’s right, new difficulties. ‘Mayhem’ will be between Overkill and Deathwish, and ‘One Down’ is going to be the new hardest difficulty in the game.  While its name suggests that players will only be allotted one incapacitation before going into custody, we don’t know much more than that. Hopefully it comes with some balance tweaks beyond just that. And today the official announcement finally went live: Safehouse… [Continue Reading]

Gargh! We’re all pirates ‘ere!

So, a Demoknight walks into a bar. He’s all dressed up in pirate cosmetics, parrot on his shoulder, a stupid peg leg, that damn Bounty Hat spitting coins everywhere, carrying a Persian Persuader. He’s also got a Tide Turner, but for some reason, it’s strapped to his crotch rather than his arm. Everyone’s giving him funny looks, but no one really wants to ask this drunken Demoknight what’s going on. Finally, the Demoknight makes it to the bar and orders a shot of whiskey, before demanding the entire bottle. The Sniper behind the bar finally decides to ask what’s up… [Continue Reading]

FashionFrame

I know I’ve mentioned Warframe a few times lately, but I have suddenly found myself quite addicted to it. Warframe is a genuinely beautiful game, and because of cosmetics, you see a lot of fancy people walking around. Go to any Relay (casual chat and trade area) when the Void Trader is around (an NPC who sells pricey but cool mods, cosmetics and weapons) and you’ll be astounded by the amount of fanciness you’ll see. People like to jokingly call the game FashionFrame, just because the game can be so fancy. Thing is, there’s a LOT of customisable stuff. You… [Continue Reading]

Hats aren’t scary any more…

The other day, TMNWG mentioned an idea for an article, about how hats and strange weapons can intimidate people. Of course, a strange weapon like a Hale’s Own Sniper Rifle is pretty impressive and slightly intimidating if the person using it is genuinely skilled (rather than some idiot farming it in achievement_idle_noglass) but hats… I don’t know, I really don’t think they’re as intimidating as they should be. Hats used to be advertised as the be all and end all of TF2. You were a loser, poor and Irish, if you didn’t have something on your bonce. Hats have always… [Continue Reading]

TF2 Competitive has a lot to steal…

Let’s face it, competitive Team Fortress 2 isn’t nearly as popular as anyone had hoped. Apart from b4nny, who is essentially the god of TF2 and can turn almost any invite team into a winner, most people don’t get many views. All the big leagues, ESEA, ETF2L, UGC, AsiaFortress and so on, get a few thousand views for their big grand finals, which doesn’t sound too bad, except when I tell you that a person being banned from League of Legends and sulking got just as many views, if not more. Despite the competitive community’s enthusiasm, the general populace and… [Continue Reading]
