For Those New to SPUF (NSFW)

Like all bodies of humanity, SPUF has developed its quirks, in-jokes, and commonly-referenced events. New users on SPUF might not recognize these, so this quick guide is designed to give them a stepping stone to understanding the insanity a little better. lodsofemone – Referencing some British comedian, stands for “loads of money”. Usually pointed at Valve either after they’ve made a particularly unsubtle money grab, or the hypothetical situation would result in such. “Soldier Update Confirmed” – Poking fun at Valve’s tendency to give soldier way more weapons than anyone else, even on updates named after other classes, anytime the… [Continue Reading]

Theories on TF2’s Crazier bits

Respawn. That (and the fact that you can have up to 32 of the same merc on the field at once) is the major question that gets most debated by those nutters who care about canon and storyline and those sorts of ridiculous things. You know the type. They’re all over SPUF. “Why is the RED Scout talking about saving Smissmas in the new comic when it was BLU Scout who killed Nicholas Crowder in A Smissmas Tale?” they may ask. Or “Why does the Engineer Update state that Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John ‘Tower of Hats’ Booth when the WAR!… [Continue Reading]

Subclass Birthday Bash Results!

Danthefinn’s Birthday Bash is over, and boy was that fun! I got to play Battle Medic on some hilariously kooky maps, and to my amazement, I found that I really liked the Syringe Gun. It’s actually a lot better then I thought at stacking up the damage if you just aim intelligently and know how to lead (and I think all that pulse-rifling in Loadout is what subconsciously prepared me for it). As someone who dropped a crossbow within minutes of playing TF2 and never looked back, this was quite a shock to discover. But enough of that, you just… [Continue Reading]

Birthday/500th Post/3-Star SPUF Event: Stupid Class, Stupid map, 6v6 Tournament!

Well hello, fine ladies and gentlemen of SPUF! My name is danthefinn (DiabetoDan on Steam) and I’ve been lurking around these parts since 2012. To celebrate my upcoming 18th birthday, as well as my 500th post and 3-star status, I’m hosting a little event on my very own TF2 server at 1 PM EST on June 16th. This will be a 6v6 tournament- but nothing like the 6v6 you all know and (at least some of you) love. This tournament will played over a series of 5 maps, with a best of 3 win rule. These maps will be the… [Continue Reading]

TF2 To recieve new parachute

No, not a golden parachute. Though now that I’ve made the connection somebody will probably make a SPUF thread wailing “Could this be a sign Valve’s gonna retire TF2???” Well, they’re probably wrong, because this new blog post is pretty awesome and hinting at future content. Valve takes a bit of time to talk about some weapon ideas that were scrapped, and leaves us with a teaser regarding a potential new Soldier secondary in the works. I don’t personally understand why everyone is leaping on the assumption that it’s literally just a parachute with obvious parachute stats (slower falling speed,… [Continue Reading]

The Future No More

To all stakeholders of the SPUFserver: It is with solemn regret that I must announce the indefinite suspension of operations for the SPUFserver, effective May 18th, 2014. For a while now, it has been apparent that the SPUFserver has not been receiving any significant traffic outside of specially organized events, and even that traffic has been minimal with waning community participation. Even with the cost optimizations that we have performed, server administration is still not a cheap venture, and there is no justification for keeping up a server which is not seeing any use. Thus, I have come to the… [Continue Reading]

SPUF Server Going Away Party

As some of you may know, the SPUFserver is shutting down in a week. And so, I’ll be hosting a go-away party so the server will have one last hurrah before dying off 4ever. This is not a formal event. There will be no custom maps, no special plugins, just plain old vanilla TF2*. The goal is to keep the server as full as we can for as long as we can. Because this is no ordinary event, I plan on having it all day. Which means, I (or some other mod/admin) will be pumping out event notifications periodically throughout… [Continue Reading]

Helpful things you probably already know about SPUF

You’d think that, being someone with over 10000 posts on SPUF, people like me and aabicus would know all the ins and outs of a forum like SPUF. Except we don’t. For ages, we didn’t know how you find out who gave you rep and stuff like that. So here are some lovely little tips for you so you don’t get as confused as us. Editing the title of your thread What’s that? Made a typo in the title of your thread? Tried editing it in the Edit Post section but it didn’t work? There’s a solution! Yes, seriously. Turns… [Continue Reading]

Evolution of the Spy

Let’s face it; TF2 is very old in video game terms, especially for a multiplayer FPS. It’s been going strong for almost seven years now, even though in the last two years Valve has been winding down on updates and general attention-giving to it in favor of DOTA 2, their new moneymaker, as well as their own console and probably some super-secret projects with their names written in indecipherable coding which just translates to “HL3”. In these seven years, TF2 has gained a fanbase and with that, people have learned things about the game and its classes, and how to… [Continue Reading]

Eyelander Eyestravaganza results!

Eyelander Eyestravaganza has ended, and everyone had a blast! Ultimately, AdolfKirby took first, VenomousPastry took second, and Lord Yimzo took third! There were a LOT of heads rolling around in the end, and a number of people had moments of glory as a single beheading granted them 100+ heads in one go. The much-hypothesized event map turned out to be Turbine, which gave all of us a chance to try out Valve’s optimizing patches. Of special note is the little cart that allows anyone to reach that medium healthpack hiding on that ledge near the flag spawns, thousands of players… [Continue Reading]
