Some Tips for Controlling Your Remote Control Sentry

So you went ahead and downloaded this mod! But somehow you aren’t good at playing a heavy with a rocket launcher taped to his head? Never fear, this article will give you all the advice you need! Tip 1: Strafe – You don’t have to shoot the gun. It shoots for you. Instead, focus all your energy on moving around. Dodge projectiles. This is seriously the main perk you have over regular sentries. Tip 2: Get a fellow engineer to help out. A man on the front lines repairing is a godsend for a moving sentry. Repair damage, replenish ammo,… [Continue Reading]

Backscratching

If I can recall, the Backscratcher was one of the first strange weapons to ever grace my backpack.  Given that I find strange weapons encourage me to use stuff I would normally not care about, I gave the ‘scratcher a chance.  From then on it has stayed in the slot, and has grown to be one of my favorites. For those whom are unaware, the Backscratcher grants extra healing from collecting health packs.  However, other healing sources, such a medics dispensers, and bomb carts, heal you at a snail’s pace.  The rake also has a slight increase in damage. The… [Continue Reading]

A Blast From the Scottish Past: Demoknighting

iReima (Also known as Craylash on SPUF) is a popular Youtuber most well known for his Demoknighting ability. Every time I try to go up against him as any class I quickly wind up beheaded and staring at that Princess Peach spray of his. His most recent video, How to Play the Hybrid Knight, is a great resource for people hoping to go into demoknighting effectively. Today, he’s agreed to answer some questions about life, liberty, and the pursuit of heads. 1. Thanks for agreeing to be interviewed! First and foremost; What attracted you to the Demoknight subclass in the… [Continue Reading]

Going Mobile: A New Trolldier For A New TF2

Don’t worry, Airborne Armaments, not all of us have. It seems that whenever I decide to write an article about changing weapons or changing MvM, the very next day, Valve will release an update! So… let’s try that again! This time, I’m here to talk about the Soldier, my #2 class and go-to Rage class. Specifically, I’m here to talk about the Liberty Launcher, the Gunboats, and the Market Gardener. In the Two Cities Update, Valve rolled out some weapon changes that brought weapons like the Baby Face’s Blaster to the forefront, and took the Crusader’s Crossbow out behind the shed… [Continue Reading]

Using Cosmetics To Your Advantage

The largest element in TF2 that doesn’t affect gameplay at all are hats. You could argue that I could leave out ‘that doesn’t affect gameplay at all’ and still be correct. But anyway, since the Move That Gear Update this summer, the last link between cosmetics and actual gameplay was broken with the removal of the Polycount set bonuses. The only bonus these sets give you now is a merely cosmetic and merely visible tombstone after you kill an adversary. That said, cosmetics can still turn the tide of your battles and may even help your team! Here are several… [Continue Reading]

Advanced Doomsday Strats (and some glitches)

Since my last article on sd_doomsday, I’ve played the map a lot more, and learned a lot more about how to maximize your presence and worth on the battlefield. I’ve also learned a couple of glitches with the map, and since I don’t have enough of either to justify its own article, today we’re killing two monkeys with one stone. Strat 1- Best rollout: This is, in my opinion, the most optimal way a single player can spend the opening minute of the round to help his team: sticky-jumping over to the enemy intel door and controlling it before they… [Continue Reading]

Explaining Ubercharges to Patients

“So there I was, Uber ready to go, and the Heavy spinning up his minigun. I tell him, I’m about to deploy my uber, get ready. It’s time to go. I deploy my ubercharge, and the stupid Heavy fails to kill ANYONE!” I bet that sounds pretty familiar to most of you Medics out there. I too have been in the same situation, and I have spent a long time trying to work out how to fix it. Of course, results my vary, as some people understand Medics, others don’t.

The New Popper-Cola Combo

Let’s face it: The new Soda Popper is pretty sweet. The new movement mechanic activated from hype that causes the Scout to have up to 5 jumps after getting off the ground has a far better purpose than farming situational mini-crits. It still does good damage without the mini-crits. I believe the weapon was buffed rather than nerfed, since there still isn’t a damage penalty that doesn’t allow you to land two good meatshots identical to the Scattergun’s damage. But besides that, what we’re overlooking right now is how it affects the old Popper-Cola Combo (Soda Popper + Crit-a-Cola of… [Continue Reading]

How to Survive as a Spy

Some of us (read: me), are not very lucky at spy. We tend to miss the backstabs due to random movement by the target, we struggle with chainstabs and trickstabs, and since we hate the dead ringer, we feel like we gimp ourselves as spies. Well, maybe that last one is only me, but oh well… To combat this lack of talent and luck in the backstabbing department, some of us learned how to survive and try again. There is nothing more frustrating than missing a stab and then immediately dying because the heavy or the demo we were aiming… [Continue Reading]

The best choices for Melee Only rounds

You can’t find good Melee-only servers anymore. Medieval Mode took out most of those, and the removal of Sudden Death from default removed the times it happens on normal servers. But every so often, a server goes melee only, and I remember how fun it can be. Everything is very simple; just you and your bludgeoning weapon of choice. Here are some tips for fighting melee only. (Note: If it’s one of those servers that allows the booties and shields but literally no other non-melee weapons, my tip is to leave the server. So-called “melee-only” servers that do that can… [Continue Reading]
