An Odd Interaction Between TF2 Weapon Sheens and Decorations

I noticed something unusual (pardon the pun) after I added a violet killstreak sheen to my Totally Boned Scotsman’s Skullcutter. And before we continue, I shamelessly admit this is one of the most minor observations I’ve probably ever made in TF2. It’s not quite on the level of 500 characters on the wind you can only notice during a single taunt, but it would fit comfortably into that list of nitpick articles in the final paragraph. Anyway, after a couple different times visiting my Demoman loadout page, I realized the Skullcutter’s inventory icon was occasionally showcasing the purple sheen. It’d… [Continue Reading]

The Making of a Demoman

Three years ago I indulged in a full article about my Medic cosmetic loadout, since it had remained remarkably consistent throughout the years and each piece held a lot of sentimental value to me. But only recently did I realize that there’s a fair amount of personal history in my Demoman loadout as well, considering I’ve been offclassing him for almost as long. Much like with Medic, my first few years were spent playing completely cosmetic-free; I was so addicted to stats I couldn’t fathom caring about something that didn’t change the actual gameplay in any way. It also took… [Continue Reading]

If I Could Completely Rework the Pyro…

I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the Pyro. The reason why is simple: Pyro is a close range class in a game filled with mid-range characters. That and the fact that the flamethrower just feels off compared to almost all other weapons in the game. Everything else shoots bullets or projectiles. Everything else is pretty clear that it hit you or damaged you. Flamethrowers are not the same. You get stray bits of flame that hit you or don’t hit you. Pyro overall is a jumbled mess of things that needs yet another complete rework anyway. So… [Continue Reading]

Primary Medic, Secondary Medic

I always like to play TF2 with two Medics in a full team. To me, it feels like the right amount of Medics in the team. One Medic, and the labcoat-wearing bugger will be overwhelmed. Three Medics, and the team’s firepower drops. I have played and won on a team with three Medics before (I’m one of ’em!), but that win is because the team comp compensated for the drop in firepower. We had one Scout, one Pyro, and no Snipers nor Spies. The rest are Heavies, Demomen, and Soldiers. That game was on Badwater Offense and we literally steamrolled… [Continue Reading]

Tuxxy

The Tuxxy is a very special cosmetic. It is one of the two all-class TF2 shirts, the other being the Dead of Night. In fact, it is the only TF2 cosmetic that is made to be an all-class shirt in the first place. The Dead of Night started off as a Spy-only cosmetic and was only made all-class three years later. The Tuxxy give every class a white dress shirt and a black bow tie. Every class except for Pyro, Medic, and Spy also get French cuffs with a gold cufflink on each cuff. The Enginner only has one cuff… [Continue Reading]

The Exorcizor

It’s been a long time since I last talked about TF2 cosmetics, no? The Exorcizor is a shirt cosmetic added during the 2012 Halloween event. Originally exclusive to the Spy, a patch in 2016 made it available to the Soldier, Pyro, and Medic as well. It is a clergy shirt with a cross on a gold chain. The Soldier’s and Pyro’s grenades are removed with this cosmetic, and a zipper is added to the front of Pyro’s asbestos suit. The cross is specific for each class: the Spy’s cross is made out of two knives, Medic has a medical cross,… [Continue Reading]

On Playing As The Devil Himself

I’ve been out of the loop when it comes to Team Fortress 2 for a while, so I don’t really know if Engineer is still considered evil and hated and all of that. From what I’ve seen, it’s still Pyro and Sniper who people seem to hate, for various reasons. Engineer though is a bit more complicated, both in how loved and hated he can be and why. But I have a bit of a secret that I’ve been hiding for ages: I’ve… always technically been a bit of an Engineer main. “But wait! You’re MEDIC! Not Engineer!” Yeah, I… [Continue Reading]

Why Warframe Shouldn’t Have an MMO-Style Market

Every time something vaguely related to trading comes up in Warframe, someone always shouts that we need an MMO-style market. Or an auction shop, or whatever you want to call it. The idea being that users just throw up what they want to sell and buyers can just click a button instantly and get their item. After all, an auction house works great in other games, doesn’t it? Surely it’ll work in Warframe and it’ll make trading so much easier! But I don’t think it will. I actually think an auction house will make trading worse. Now, that’s a rather… [Continue Reading]

Team Fortress 2’s Teamwork

In my last article, I said that teamwork in TF2 is easier than in other games, with hero shooters being my example of the alternative. I’m going to explain why I think that. Firstly, there is very little overlap in the class roles. The nine classes by default have very clear, distinct roles with minimal overlap, so you can tell what your team needs at a glance. You need someone to heal? Medic. You need to defend a point? Engineer. You need to destroy a particularly annoying Sentry Nest? Spy. You need to get somewhere faster? Scout. So on, and… [Continue Reading]
