Cardboard Weaponry – The Flamethrower

My obsession with cardboard replicas of weapons is an odd one. Sadly, as the walls close in and I run out of space to put all my weapons, it seems that my future cardboard weapon exploits will fall towards smaller weapons, mostly secondary weapons. Why? Because I made a flamethrower and it’s taking up way too much room right now. The cardboard Flamethrower is probably the most oxymoronic weapon I’ve made. A replica flamethrower made out of an incredibly flammable material. Seriously, cardboard is cool to set on fire and it glows nicely if it’s coated in plastic… don’t try… [Continue Reading]

Medic goes to Cyprus Comicon 2016

Good day, everyone! Medic here is all excited that she gets to dress up as a video game character and not look like a freak! Today’s article, unlike almost every other article on the Daily SPUF, won’t be written in advance but will be updated as the day goes on, hopefully with a few more pictures. Last year, I dressed up as Malzahar from League of Legends. This year, I am dressed up as Pyro, and I’ve managed to convince Terroxy to dress up as Medic. The event is up in Nicosia/Lefkosia and we have a long day ahead of… [Continue Reading]

Heavy vs. Pyro: The War Goes On

I voted for Team Heavy in the current ongoing War even though I knew Pyro was going to win in a landslide, but I honestly would love to see Heavy get some love. Pyro has enough silly nonsense about him already, I don’t think he needs more bizarre unlocks or reworks; just look at 2007 release Pyro and see how indistinguishable he’s become from his roots already. Heavy in contrast is basically the same, and that’s not fair because he could be an interesting class if just given a chance. Captain Blades recently released a steam guide covering alternate Heavy unlocks… [Continue Reading]

The Great Pyro Rework by Someone Who Doesn’t Play Pyro

Yes, that title is stupid, yes, that is what I am about to do. I play Pyro a little, but I can’t say that I am a Pyro main. Then again, neither can the TF Team. But don’t worry, I’m not going to do anything dumb. Overall Changes Pyro’s base speed and health are fine. He’s supposed to be in the middle, and since every other >150hp class runs slower than 100% move speed, I don’t see why Pyro should get any more mobility, running-wise. The main changes here are to how his weaponry should work. Afterburn Pyro keeps his… [Continue Reading]

Heavy VS Pyro – Predictions

This article was supposed to come out after the MyM update came out. Oh well. While everyone is busy complaining about casual and competitive matchmaking in the Meet your Match update, they seem to have partially forgotten about the Meat VS Match side of things. This is actually pretty sad, because this is a second WAR! update, something people have kinda secretly been expecting for years. It’s no Engineer VS Spy update, but it’s a tad more balanced at least. Not that it matters. This WAR! update isn’t all Soldiers and Demomen everywhere trying to kill each other, a Medic’s… [Continue Reading]

DC and the F2P: Initiation – TF2 Pub Tales

These excerpts were found within the diaries of DC’s sister, among some cinders and next to a pair of Pyrovision Goggles.    The Prologue So there my sister DC was, sitting around in her chair, mumbling about hats and projectiles and typing away some kind of nonsense. She’s been at it for nearly a year now, a year of me waking up in the middle of the night sometimes when she screams for a doctor or just madly cries out to no one in particular. I have reason to believe that her participation in Team Fortress 2 has caused her to… [Continue Reading]

Little-Known TF2 Mechanics

In order to make this list, said TF2 mechanic needs to (1) heavily affect some aspect of playing the game normally, (2) be completely unexplained or hidden, and (3) be something I somehow only learned in 2016 despite my pathological addiction to analyzing every facet of this game. I’ve divided the list into three “major” and three “minor” mechanics. Major 1: Projectile Models on some weapons affect aerodynamics. Several of the projectiles in TF2 actually care about the drag on the fired projectile, which means that, for example, most of the grenade launchers fire even more differently than their stats… [Continue Reading]

Your Mileage Mei Vary

After the 500th time getting frozen and dispatched like freezer-burnt meat, I finally went to play Mei myself, convinced that I could just channel my W+M1 skills and start wrecking the enemy team as easily as the Meis seem to always do in the closed beta. Long story short, that didn’t work out. Mei is not nearly as easy to play as she acts. Her liquid nitrogen gun seems to behave somehow like the flamethrower in TF2 when it comes to particles, meaning there’s an invisible sweet spot you need to keep trained on your target if you want to freeze… [Continue Reading]

Remembering Past Successes – Medic’s Moments of Awesomeness

For all the times I’ve gone on about how crap I am at Team Fortress 2, I’ve actually had quite a few epic moments, more than you’d expect for a random Medic with a sugar addiction and a writing problem. Many of which have been as Medic. So let’s go all countdown-y and story-telling-y and listen to me brag about myself. Because I feel I should be able to brag about myself, once in a blue moon. 6. Finishing off Horseless Headless Horsemann Jr A long time ago, back when Arena Mode was dying down, I started playing Versus Saxton… [Continue Reading]

I know I was supposed to make an article about yesterday’s update but…

I know, I know. I’m supposed to keep up with updates and things like that. Yesterday’s update was actually quite a big one in terms of number of things changed. Some for the better, some for the worse. Everyone’s all excited because it was an update in the early months of the year that wasn’t a couple of small lines and updating the localization files and all that, and because there’s matchmaking stuff hidden away in it all. The changes I do like? The map fixes are always good and the ability to trade the Steam Treasure Hunt hats is… [Continue Reading]
