Rawr! – Dragonflight Review

Aabicus, being the awesome person he is, got me Dragonflight for my birthday. It’s a game that’s been sitting on my wishlist for a while, and, like the other dragon game on my wishlist, has been in Early Access for a while. Being the grateful content creator that I am, I decided to review the game. Dragonflight is a game in which you fly a wyvern (a two-wings, two-legs dragon) around and destroy things. The story is your standard stop-the-bad-guy-from-being-freed nonsense, where you steal the bones of an evil dragon before the enemy does. A bit like National Treasure but… [Continue Reading]

Several ways Saints Row: the Third could have been even more awesome

Saints Row the Third is probably my favourite of the Saints Row series and that is NOT a popular opinion. Saints Row 1 was an obvious GTA sort of thing, but Saints Row 2 brought the series into its own with, well, lots of stuff. Likable characters, some form of actual genuine plot and lots of fun stuff. Saints Row: The Third improved on that in some ways and fell down in others, with people still preferring SR2 because it was silly and serious at the same time. Then for some reason everyone lapped up Saints Row 4, despite it… [Continue Reading]

Remembering Past Successes – Medic’s Moments of Awesomeness

For all the times I’ve gone on about how crap I am at Team Fortress 2, I’ve actually had quite a few epic moments, more than you’d expect for a random Medic with a sugar addiction and a writing problem. Many of which have been as Medic. So let’s go all countdown-y and story-telling-y and listen to me brag about myself. Because I feel I should be able to brag about myself, once in a blue moon. 6. Finishing off Horseless Headless Horsemann Jr A long time ago, back when Arena Mode was dying down, I started playing Versus Saxton… [Continue Reading]

The Daily SPUF is getting a makeover. Now we’re the Daily Medic! Medic articles every single day from now on. There’s no other classes, just Medic. Medic Medic Medic. Starting from today, every single article from now on will be about Medic in some way or form, whether it’s about how awesome I am, how awesome I am in reviving a dead body 12 hours after it died, the best way to get black market exotic animal organs or the most amusing syringe gun kills ever. Tomorrow’s article will be about how awesome I’ve been in small amounts of awesomeness… [Continue Reading]

On Becoming a Parody of Your Former Self

I’ve been re-reading and re-watching a lot of TF2 stuff lately. While my desire to actually play the game has fizzled out lately, I’ve always been a fan of the crazy TF2 back story. Always will. But my recent reviewing of it all has made me notice a few things. Things are changing. In ways I’m not sure I like. It hit me when I read Gargoyles and Gravel Pits, the Scream Fortress 2015 comic. In it, Medic is depicted as a complete lunatic, while Engineer is pretty chill about everything. And I realised that Medic has gone more and… [Continue Reading]

Advanced Options – Some tips before you press the big Play Multiplayer button

Now, before we continue, I have written an article about newbie tips before, but the tips were slightly more generic. This just covers the Advanced Options menu, which many people seem to overlook. Weirdly, it’s actually easier to use than the normal Options menu, but contains TF2-specific options. The newbie really does struggle when it comes to Team Fortress 2. While it looks like a standard first person shooter at first glance (ignoring the cartoony art style), it doesn’t exactly play like one. There’s lots of tiny hints and tricks you should know before you even click the big Play… [Continue Reading]

Decorating ourselves in other ways

Clearly, we’re running out of ideas. For a game about identical mercenaries shooting each other and capturing objectives by standing on them, we have a LOT of ways of making ourselves different, as much as all those lime green Fast Learner Scouts will protest. It’s all over the place, but Valve want to make money (since they’re a business and all that and kinda need to make money) so they need yet more ways to get us to stick around and eventually buy things we don’t need. Weapons are one thing, but Valve isn’t stupid enough to make us buy… [Continue Reading]

On Upvotes and Downvotes

At 1am the other day, I got into an argument with someone online, in a video game forum. Someone had made a post saying they had cancer. Whether that was true or not, no one knows, but someone in that thread was advocating not seeing a doctor and treating cancer with orange juice and turmeric. Of course, this set off my angry button as someone who goes around calling himself Medic. I replied to this insane person, saying that, whether the person really had cancer or otherwise, their suggestion of unproven food fads was fucking retarded, they should have been… [Continue Reading]

The Gentleman’s Gatsby

“I was wondering around the other day, using my spectacularly riotous tickle mittens to coax my fellow adversely-colored brethren into fits of eye-watering hilarity, when a kind fellow noted the bubbly intrigue of my fine trusty battle helmet I had acquired from a rather loaded fellow whose name I do not recall, his name began with “Fus” or something of the like. But anyhow the man was bewildered. “Where do those bubbles come from?! What kinds of sorcery is at play?” he asked, as he consumed a particularly large fishcake. “Well…” I replied in haste. “This is an unusual hat.… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s First Tiny Steps into Official TF2 Competitive

This article was brought to you by Puffs, the Number 1 Medic-Calmer. Puffs – pink, round, puffy and opinionated, get yours now! Alright, a million years later than everyone else, I’ve finally had a go at TF2 matchmaking, during the 6th Stress Test. (Note: this article is a bit late – I held off publishing it due to a week of love and hate) I was finally around when that delightful Stress Test button appeared on my screen, and I was actually in a good enough mood to play. But, coward that I am, I didn’t want to go it… [Continue Reading]
