Smissmas 2013: A Completely On-Time Review

Merry Smissmas everyone! Today I’d like to talk to you ab- What’s that? It’s already 2014, you say? Maybe I wrote this on the 21st of December and Aabicus screwed something up again. Regardless, it’s time to discuss the somewhat divisive Teufort festivities that we got this time around. Also, a note to those who read my only other article thus far… I promise this isn’t going to be another complaint-fest about me losing my toys. This is my attempt at an article that actually matters. If my last entry was a page in some crappy tabloid, this is my… [Continue Reading]

How to Reach the Max’s Severed Head in trade_portal2_beta5

There

Check out that glorious display of health and ammo next to that high-tier cosmetic on the table. Want to show all your teammates this secret treat?

Whenever I play trade_portal2_beta5 (an increasingly common map on the trade servers I frequent) this is often my goal as I pass the time; to get a teleporter over there. Here’s how.

The Otolaryngologist’s Mirror

Hehe...
Hehe…

Oh, hello! Um, what was I talking about? No, I wasn’t sneakily getting high off my Kritzkrieg… Ah, the Otolaryngologist’s Mirror. One of my favourite hats. I love it so much, I own an unusual version of it. But it’s always surprised me that so people like it. I always assumed it was something along the lines of it being old or something, but I just don’t know. Oh well, at least I don’t need to offer my first-born for an unusual one…

What is your opinion on each of the Paints in TF2?

Aabicus: I think it’s a cool idea, as I always like further ability to customize. Unfortunately, I’m such a stickler there aren’t many paints I use personally. I’ve got a real thing for White paint, I find it looks good on a lot of loadouts. Other than that very little of my stuff is painted. Instead, I find myself drawn to the default colors of most cosmetics. But I don’t discriminate based on garish hues. As a matter of fact, I’m more likely to heal those people and trust them because they’ve shelled out the dosh for paint and probably… [Continue Reading]

Community-Ifiers: A Suggestion

Do you own a Community Weapon? Chances are, probably not. There are only two ways to get one: Be rich and buy a sparkly Lugermorph, or become a respectful upstanding member of the TF2 Community who leaves the game a little better than when he arrived, and wait for Valve to contact you and give you one.

The system is as old as the concept of weapon qualities. Back in the day that Vintage weapons outnumbered Unique weapons, Valve implemented this method of rewarding specific members of the community. But I’m starting to think this procedure could use an update.

The first reason? Strange Weapons. A few days ago I passed time with a fun question: If I could get any Community weapon, what would I get? The first thing that came to mind was my beloved Crusader’s Crossbow, but wait, I have a strange crossbow! I wouldn’t want to stop tracking my kills. As a matter of fact, almost every weapon I love is already in strange form in my backpack. I’d have to pick some nonstrangeable weapon I enjoyed, like Gunboats. But this extreme restrictiveness seemed to dilute the fact that the Community weapon was supposed to be a reward. It should be a 100% Awesome thing to get a Community weapon; I shouldn’t have to bittersweetly choose which of my stranges to retire.

I’m a Strange Item fanatic. I love showing off how many kills I’ve got with this weapon or that one. Or recently, how many points I have with this and that class (“InstaCakes is credit to team!”) and in general (Strange Speks!).

So I was thinking: Some weapons aren’t Strange yet. Some are Strange Festive, but not plain Strange (Buff Banner! Sandvich!). Some are Strange and deserve to be Festive (I WANT A STRANGE FESTIVE SHOTGUN!). And then there are cool ideas for Strange Parts that no-one has thought of yet, and Strange Parts everyone has thought of but not added. For example, why is there a “Robot Spies Destroyed” part and “Cloaked Spies Killed” part but no plain “Spies Killed” part  but Spies Killed has only been added with the latest update? Why isn’t there a Strange High-Five yet?

My favorite TF2 Glitches

As we all know, TF2 is a perfect game with absolutely no flaws. As a matter of fact, not only is it completely flawless now, but it’s actually remained a perfect game since the day it came out, with a grand total of zero glitches for the past seven years. That’s pretty impressive.
But every so often Valve feels the need to remove legitimate gameplay strategies such as “Taunt with Amputator, disconnect from server, your team regnerates health indefinitely until the server crashes or changes maps.” Here are the ones I miss the most.

1. The Level 2 Mini-Sentry

Is a regular sentry gun cute? Maybe a little, but not really. Is the mini-sentry cute? It would be if it wasn’t one of the most annoying things in the game currently. But this gun? It’s adorable. I want a plush.

Observations on Killstreak Weapons

On the 21st of November, the Two Cities update shipped. With it came two new Mann Versus Machine maps, Mannhattan and Rottenburg, much-needed class buffs for the mode, and some fancy-schmancy new cosmetic gimmicks. Completing the Two Cities tour nets you a “Killstreak Kit” for a random weapon, and according to what I’ve heard (unfortunately I have yet to actually beat a single mission), a couple random “Specialized/Professional Killstreak Fabricators”, which can be completed using the pieces of robot scraps found by completing missions. Being the owner of two of these, I would like to make known some truths about… [Continue Reading]

The Second Opinion

We did it... I did it... Whatever...
We did it… I did it… Whatever…

Halloween’s over now, and its passing takes with it the 102 cosmetic items, the Halloween paints and spells, transmogrifiers, spooky crates and event keys. But there’s one item in particular that we’re all going to miss. Okay, maybe not everyone, but most people. Fine, not most people, but most Medics. Alright! Some Medics. Some Medics will miss this item.

I’m talking about the Second Opinion.

Yes, he is…

Oh no.
