If Medics Could Fly…

A few days ago, I gave Team Fortress Classic a try. Now, Aabicus has beaten TFC to death when it comes to articles for the Daily SPUF, so I won’t go into too much detail, but what astounded me the most was the game’s lovely Medic. When you hear the word Medic, what springs to mind? Normally, it’s either a soldier class who can heal or revive people (most games with a not-very-differentiated class system) or a class that spends their entire time healing, keeping everyone alive (like, for example, Team Fortress 2). Point is, Medics normally do a lot… [Continue Reading]

The Phlogisticast

I’m selling my soul for advertising again but it’s for a good reason, really! You know that guy Dekky who’s been providing newbie-friendly articles around here? Well, he’s starting up a newbie-friendly podcast too! It’s also vaguely related to SPUF because I dunno, we all kinda wanted a SPUF podcast and we never got around to it. But with serial lurker Dekky, we might finally get one. And the best bit is that I’m in it, so you can all totally hear my horrible, completely-not-German-in-the-slightest, worryingly-not-Medic’s-gender voice. Oh, and you also get to hear the wonderful voices of Dekky and… [Continue Reading]

Why you should heal Shotgun Heavies

Most gag classes are not getting any sort of love from my Medigun. Trolldiers can go find their health somewhere else. Demoknights usually are in charge of taking care of themselves, what with the medley of health-returning swords at their disposal. Gunspies will get the same treatment as regular spies, i.e. a spritz behind friendly lines or a long-range crossbolt if I have a split-second and line-of-sight. And don’t get me started on so-called combat medics. But shotgun heavies, on the other hand, are always treated by me as lovingly as any other legitimate class, and they can look forward… [Continue Reading]

Synergy In Every Medic Loadout Combination

Medic has very few unlocks, it’s true, but this really is because almost every niche he’d need filled is already in there somewhere. The lion’s share of discussion on this topic is dedicated to his secondary Medigun, but what about his options in primary and melee? Well, for a change of pace I thought I could cover every single available weapon combo in Medic’s Primary/Melee slots, how they synergize, and their viability and effectiveness as a combo. I’m leaving out the bonesaw because it should never be used ever. Crossbow/Amputator: If you’re going to use the Amputator, this is the… [Continue Reading]

A Battle of Healers: Medic VS Gorge

Quite often in a class-based game, Healers and Engineers are lumped in together and you’ll have the same person doing a couple of similar jobs. In that aspect, our Medic a bit of an odd one, as we have a whole other class, the Engineer, to do that. There’s a bit of an overlap between the two of them, as in they both heal, but Medics almost exclusively heal. This does make it tricky when it comes to these battles. Anyway, today’s enemy is a monster, literally, who acts as a defensive healing utility thingy who can heal both ‘buildings’… [Continue Reading]

TF2 vs. TFC: Who would win?

A long time ago I made a thread just for funsies, Who would win in a fight; the TF2 team or the TFC (Team Fortress Classic) team? After fifteen pages and several necros, the consensus appears to be: probably TFC, but both teams have a lot of pros and cons on their side of the table. So, without further ado, I’m going to look at each of the nine classes from TFC and TF2 and compare which outclasses his counterpart. There are obviously a myriad of other factors like grenades, random crits, unlocks, and bunnyhopping that would have to be… [Continue Reading]

A Battle of Healers: Medic VS Sona

The Medic of the Team Fortress 2 world is wildly unique, somehow bringing together entire teams to the point that you can’t win if you don’t have one and the enemy has. So what happens when you compare our Medic with the healers from other games (and universes)? Who knows, since we don’t have inter-universal technology yet. Last time, Medic got his ass kicked by the TFC Medic, but this time, things may turn out differently. Of course, there are difficulties in comparing Healers from wildly different games, so we end up comparing based on mechanics and team work. Today’s… [Continue Reading]

A Battle of Healers – The TF2 Medic VS The TFC Medic

Let us be frank here: The Medic we all love dearly is hugely different from the healing class in many, many other games. There are few places where the most important person on your team is the person healing you and your team and keeping everyone alive by making health bars go up instead of go down. So I decided to have a think about this. How would our Medic do fighting against other healers? Before we begin, a clarification. The Team Fortress 2 Medic was designed with teamwork in mind. He’s almost helpless on his own. That being said,… [Continue Reading]

How to deal with stupid Medics

You’ve had the same nightmare Medics, haven’t you? You’ve seen them. You must have seen them. Everyone’s seen them, whether they’ve been fighting people of the opposite colour, fighting hordes of robots or fighting a single, over-powered boss with thousands of hit points. You know what they’re like. All they do is heal one person, generally a Heavy. They refuse to spread heals around and take forever to deploy a single Uber, which they drop most of the time. If they’re not healing their Heavy friend, they turn into a Battle Medic and try to syringe things before rejoining their… [Continue Reading]

Medi Guns VS Machine

The Stock Medi Gun is considered one of the most powerful weapons in the game, despite the fact that it doesn’t do anything damage-wise. After a nice 40 or so seconds, you get invulnerability for eight seconds, which can only be ruined by knock back and things like that. It’s a force to be reckoned with, a force that can only be countered by sheer power. Unless that power happens to be hordes of robots. It seems as though the Medi Gun is actually the weakest Medi Gun to use in Mann VS Machine! The Kritzkrieg is considered the be-all… [Continue Reading]
