Why I think you should give Dirty Bomb a chance

Dirty bomb is one of my favorite games, I love the diverse class options, different counter play mechanics, fast paced fire fights, and massive emphasis on team coordination that the game provides. However the game does not come without its flaws, those being a less than stellar payment model, and a small map selection. Of course Dirty Bomb is still in beta and new characters are being added regularly, if you haven’t played it for a while come back and see whats new. It’s free on steam and the rotation changes every 2 weeks. Anyway my reasons for writing this… [Continue Reading]

Invasion left Medics behind

Wow, this year has been a bad year for Medics. Literally nothing special has happened to the class at all. It’s been nothing but bad news for everyone’s favourite healer, over a variety of updates, not just Invasion. But Invasion kinda just rubs it in even more. This time round though, Medic’s pain is kinda shared with my other main class, Soldier (since I haven’t gotten around to being able to call Demoman a main of mine yet), but honestly, Soldier’s always been lucky so this is an unusual change of pace. That’s not to say that the Invasion update… [Continue Reading]

The LCS is here but…

The LCS, the World Championship, Worlds, whatever you want to call it, the biggest League of Legends tournament, featuring the best teams across the planet, is here. Well, actually, it’s here, on the League of Legends E-Sports website, but I am sure you blog-goers would understand. Unfortunately, due to my duties in Demacia and on the Fields of Justice, I was actually late to make this announcement. There is a problem though. I wonder how much of the community actually cares? Of course, the Asian communities almost certainly care. E-sports is a steadily growing phenomenon, and some places like South… [Continue Reading]

WE ARE IN DAH BEEM

There are a host of things I could say about tdm_watergate, but nothing compares to that damn voice. Actually the “WillFromAfar” emotive text-to-speech voice synthesizer from Acapela, probably used because the current voice actor’s strike makes it too difficult/pricey to find a real voice actor, much less Ellen McLain, it nevertheless succeeds at being completely obnoxious and out of place. First time I heard it I went to the mute menu to find out which person on the server needed to shut up forever. I’m not even sure why the mapmakers decided it was necessary for an audio file to… [Continue Reading]

Ode to the Sandvich

A delectable combo of lettuce and cheese, Tomatoes, an olive, and fresh bolognas. There’s no battle ailment you cannot cure When bestowed by the heavy whose heart is pure. The Sandvich might be the most famous weapon in Team Fortress 2. Like the Ubersaw, it has eclipsed its stock counterpart and become the unanimously-accepted default weapon of its slot. Outside of gameplay it has appeared as a Comic-Con collectible and as the star of its own Meet the Team video. And the whole team should love it; aside from the Medigun its the best healing weapon in the game, instantly replenishing the health of… [Continue Reading]

Oh hey, Invasion is here.

Oh hey, Invasion is here. And it’s pretty much replaced the Halloween event, running until November 5th with the Invasion Pass. Basically this update is a gigantic community Gun Mettle Update, with the contributors doing all of the work and Valve still getting a good bit of the rewards. Same as before, do challenges in-game on official servers and get weapons, or get special rare crates that need keys to open. Of course this is all locked to people who buy the pass, which is $2-ish, depending on where you’re from. So no stuff for people who don’t want to… [Continue Reading]

Looking for a new leash on life

I’ve been Medic for a long time. A very long time. So long in fact that I’ve become disillusioned with the class. I have more hours as Medic than any other class, perhaps more than all 8 other classes combined. I’ve also come to some rather big conclusions as well. It’s time for me to move on, I think. Thing is, Medic is actually a really easy class to play as. All those claims that Medic as a class was overpowered? They’re completely, 100% true. But Medic NEEDS to be overpowered and simple to play, otherwise no one plays as… [Continue Reading]

Randomness in Video Games

One of the most controversial topics in Team Fortress 2 is that of its random elements, particularly of random critical hits, though random spread was another area of contention for quite some time. Why do so many Team Fortress players think that randomness is an unacceptable part of the game? It may help to look at other games to gain some perspective.  In Magic: the Gathering cards like Mana Clash are reviled for introducing random coin flip elements into the game.  More infamously, the Star Wars: TCG by Wizards (not to be confused with the Star Wars: CCG by Decipher)… [Continue Reading]

A really simple way to fix class classification.

Everything is argued about and scrutinized in Team Fortress 2. Whether it’s new hats, new weapons, new maps, old maps, old weapons, old hats or the classes themselves, they get picked over by us ravenous bastards. Even how the classes are classified and laid out is a problem to some people. There is actually a genuine argument to be had with class classification. Does each class actually fit in its given classification? Most wouldn’t really give it more than a passing thought, but there are issues with the current classification system. Let’s take Demoman as an example. Like Heavy and… [Continue Reading]

On Left 4 Dead and how it was all ported over

There’s something about the original Left 4 Dead game, how it still feels better than Left 4 Dead 2. But this isn’t like the feeling aabicus has with Payday 1 and 2, or Team Fortress Classic and Team Fortress 2, this is something different. The games I just mentioned, the sequels are, well, completely different. Payday 2 gets rid of old Hoxton and replaces him temporarily until you unlock the old version by saving him and is basically a whole new game, focusing more on the constant expansions than one little thing. The differences between Team Fortress Classic and Team… [Continue Reading]
